Walmart, Target offer deals to compete with Prime Day

Axios5 days ago

Walmart and Target again will roll out sales to compete with Amazon's upcoming Prime Day sale.
The big picture: It seems the unofficial back-to-school season gets earlier each year as the trio battle for consumer dollars during the summer doldrums. This year's sales start soon after Independence Day, about a week sooner than in 2024.
Walmart Deals
Walmart announced Monday it will hold its sale July 8-13, but early access begins at 7pm on July 7 for Walmart+ members (that's 7-7 for those watching for winks).
Hot deals include a 50-inch Vizio TV for $238, a Dyson cordless vacuum for $229 and 24-count crayons for 50 cents, down from $1.44.
Prime Day
Amazon's annual Prime Day runs from July 8-11 for everyone, but early deals are available now for Prime members.
Circle Week
Target's Circle Week will run July 6-12 with Target Circle 360 members getting early access on July 5.

If You Own an iPhone, Amazon Is Offering a Free AirTag Just Before Prime Day

Apple doesn't often discount products, and AirTags have never been on sale from the Apple website or in Apple stores. Amazon, however, occasionally surprises us with exclusive pricing on these useful Bluetooth trackers. For the best value, a pack of AirTags is nearly always a better buy than a single one. Amazon is also running a great deal just in time for Prime Day: purchase three AirTags and receive a fourth free. That drops the price of four AirTags to just $74, down from the regular $99 ($25 each + get one free). That's one of the best discounts we've ever seen on these trackers. See 4-pack AirTags on Amazon AirTag is a small device that's perfect for keeping track of your keys, wallet, luggage, backpack and anything else you want to stay with. It's simple to set up and you just have to tap your iPhone (or iPad) and the AirTag is paired in an instant. Every AirTag is about the size of a large coin so it's simple to drop into pockets. It has a built-in speaker to play a sound to help you find your things and you can use Siri to have them locate it for you as well. Precision Finding is one of the neatest aspects, and it uses the Ultra Wideband technology. On some iPhone models, this feature directs you to your AirTag with visual, haptic and auditory cues. For items far away, the AirTag uses the huge Find My network: Hundreds of millions of Apple devices collaborate to locate your lost items. When you mark your AirTag as lost, you get a notification the very moment it's detected by another device in the network. Apple takes privacy seriously: All interactions with the Find My network are encrypted and anonymous. Location data and history are never stored on the AirTag itself so your information is safe. AirTags also support sharing with up to five people able to track an item together. Obviously, it also boasts an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating, which makes it capable of withstanding spills, rain, and everyday handling. The device uses a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery with a lifespan of over a year. This makes maintenance simple and hassle-free. The AirTag is one of the smarter things you can do for your everyday items at this price range. See 4-pack AirTags on Amazon

'No space for Bezos': Hundreds protest against billionaire's wedding on final day of Venice celebrations

Hundreds of people filled the streets and waterways of Venice to protest against the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez on the final day of their multimillion-dollar celebrations. The Amazon founder, 61, and his bride, 55, got married in a private ceremony on the secluded Venetian island of San Giorgio on Friday. Throughout the weekend, activists came out against the wedding, which they say is adding to chronic problems of overtourism, climate change-induced flooding, and spiralling costs for locals. On Saturday, demonstrators were seen clutching placards that read: "Kisses yes, Bezos no", "No Bezos, no war", and "118,000 Italian shops killed by Amazon". Others gathered on the city's famous Rialto Bridge, where they draped a banner that read: "No space for Bezos". The newlyweds stayed in the luxury Aman hotel on the Grand Canal, where rooms cost £3,400 a night, while the 200 guests took over other luxury accommodation, complete with their entourage and security teams. City officials have defended agreeing to host the wedding of the world's fourth richest man, citing its age-old tradition of welcoming popes, emperors, and ordinary visitors. Bezos donated £850,000 (one million euros) to three environmental research organisations dedicated to preserving Venice, where the ailing infrastructure is under increasing pressure from cruise ships, extreme weather, and increasing numbers of tourists. But Venetian activist Flavio Cogo said: "We want a free Venice, which is finally dedicated to its citizens. "Those donations are just misery and only aimed at clearing Bezos's conscience." Fellow protester Martin Vergnano said: "We are here to continue ruining the plans of these rich people, who accumulate money by exploiting many other people… while the conditions of this city remain precarious." Protesters claimed they forced the relocation of the final party on Saturday from an undisclosed original location to the Arsenale, a former medieval shipyard. Bezos and Sanchez were seen blowing kisses to crowds and the press before their final celebrations. The list of VIP guests
