Missouri lands top-10 recruit Jason Crowe Jr. as Dennis Gates' personal ties pay off
Crowe, who did not make the roster, never forgot the presence Gates had as a 22-year-old new coach.

'I was able to just watch him, the style of play, the method of coaching, the way he deals with young men,' Crowe said. 'He was a good man, so I was very fortunate he reached out.'
Crowe's very talented son, five-star guard Jason Crowe Jr., committed to Missouri on Friday, becoming the second-highest-ranked recruit in Tigers history. He's the highest-ranked since Michael Porter Jr. in 2017. Crowe announced the commitment from the Nike EYBL Peach Jam on his birthday.

Missouri beat out Kentucky and local schools USC and UCLA for the Inglewood, Calif., product.
Crowe, the sixth-ranked player in the Class of 2026 according to the 247Sports Composite, is one of the best shooters in this class and is leading EYBL in scoring at 27 points per game this summer. This is a big addition for the Tigers, who will be a fringe Top 25 team this preseason.
Missouri's 2026-27 starting backcourt could potentially be Crowe, Anthony Robinson II (9.0 points, 3.5 assists per game last season) and UCLA transfer Sebastian Mack (9.6 points per game). The Tigers will be losing Mark Mitchell in the frontcourt, but that backcourt is a great starting spot for another Top 25 team.
The Tigers have reached two NCAA Tournaments in Gates' three seasons as coach, including a 22-12 record and No. 6 seed this past year (Missouri lost to No. 11 Drake in the first round).

Rumors surfaced of several contenders interested in trading for Lugo ahead of Thursday's deadline, and the fact that the Royals have been hanging on the fringe of contention themselves left many wondering whether they would be buyers or sellers. It appears that they are going to make a push for a second consecutive playoff appearance. The Royals acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Diamondbacks for reliever Andrew Hoffmann late Saturday, shoring up a weakness in the lineup by adding a right-handed bat. Now, they have indicated that Lugo remains big a part of their future with his extension — an especially timely one given it came the same day that All-Star pitcher Kris Bubic went on the injured list. Kansas City also is missing starters Cole Ragans and Michael Lorenzen due to injuries. Both are expected back at some point in August, and the Royals are hopeful that their return to the rotation will propel them down the stretch run. Dream end Lynx's 14-game home winning streak with 90-86 win
Brittney Griner scored a season-high 22 points and the hot-shooting Atlanta Dream handed the Minnesota Lynx their first loss in 15 home games this season 90-86 on Sunday night. The Lynx trailed 83-70 with three minutes to go but pulled within three on Napheesa Collier's basket with 11.3 seconds left. Jordin Canada's free throw at 7 seconds iced it. Atlanta made its first six shots of the fourth quarter before a block by Collier and then made three more in a row. Collier had 13 points in the final period. Canada had 18 points for the Dream (15-10) and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Allisha Gray both added 12. Collier scored 32 points on 14-of-18 shooting to go with eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks to lead the Lynx (22-5). Alanna Smith added 12 points, Courtney Williams 11 and Natisha Hiedeman 10. The Lynx franchise-record home winning streak was the fourth-longest in WNBA history. Atlanta was 5-of-20 shooting in the third quarter when Minnesota cut a 14-point halftime deficit to as little as three. But in the other three quarters the Dream shot 29 of 45 (71%). The Lynx shot 56% but after Collier it was 48%. They were also outscored by nine at the foul line. The Lynx end a five-game homestand on Wednesday when the defending champion New York Liberty visit for the first meeting of the season between the two WNBA finalist from last season.
