Move over Moo Deng! See the new baby pygmy hippo born in Kansas
A new shiny, rotund baby pygmy hippo has entered the chat, and animal lovers are already falling in love.
A male pygmy hippopotamus – the same species as Thailand's famous Moo Deng – was born at Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, Kansas on June 26. Born at just under 13 pounds, the baby has been confirmed to be healthy and alert, the park said in a news release. He's bonding with his mother and already showing early signs of confidence and playfulness.
The baby hippo, who doesn't yet have a name, was born to parents Pluto and Posie. Both arrived to Tanganyika Wildlife Park in 2014 and have had five calves together, including the latest addition.
A TikTok video posted by the wildlife park, introducing the wide-eyed hippo, had garnered more than 1.9 million views, as of July 11.

What is the baby hippo's name?
Tanganyika Wildlife Park is hosting an online vote to name the new, baby hippo. To vote, visit the park's website at info.twfdn.org/baby-hippo-name. There are three names to choose from: Styx, Mars and Thor. To cast a vote, you must donate at least $25 to the park.
Voting is open through July 18 and Tanganyika Wildlife Park will announce the winning name on July 19.
Here's how to visit the baby hippo
The baby hippo will make his first public appearance at the park later this summer, Tanganyika Wildlife Park said in a news release.
The park will also offer a pygmy hippo meet and greet experience during its open season, which is March through November.
Why are pygmy hippos so popular?
Pygmy hippos gained popularity on social media last summer with the birth of Moo Deng at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand. Countless photos and videos of the chubby hippo eating lunch, running after zookeepers and cuddling with her momma garnered millions of views online.
The viral hippo celebrated her first birthday on Thursday, July 10 with a hefty tropical fruit platter.
Pygmy hippos were deemed endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2016. Less than 3,000 remain in the wild and less than 450 are managed in professional zoological care, Tanganyika Wildlife Park said in a news release.
The species faces threads from habitat destruction, bushmeat (wild animal meat) hunting, and the mining of coltan, a mineral commonly used in smartphones and laptops, Tanganyika Wildlife Park continued.
"This baby is adorable, but he's also an ambassador for a species that needs our attention," said Daniel Neale, Tanganyika Wildlife Park marketing manager said in a news release. "Protecting wildlife starts with caring about it."

Patsy Field Posts Fox Eye Surgery Results
Maybe you've heard of fox eye surgery. It's basically a cosmetic procedure where the outer corners of the eyes are lifted and reshaped to create a refined cat-eye look. Stars like Ariana Grande and Bella Hadid have all been accused of — and denied — getting it done. Well, Patsy Field from Love Island recently got the surgery, and she shared the results in a recent TikTok. "I'm about to show you the results of my fox eye surgery and you better be nice," she began the video, noting it was her first time removing her bandages since undergoing the procedure. "I was in Turkey for about a week after the surgery to heal and recover," Patsy shared, "and now it's been about a week with them on at home, so it's time to come off." Patsy then proceeded to remove her glasses and bandages to show the final results of the procedure, which indeed show her with a more fox-like appearance. "There was a moment when I was a bit scared, I'm not gonna lie," Patsy noted, "but as the days go on, the results are looking good if I do say so myself." She added, "My eyes are so much more lifted now, and I feel like it's going to look less tired and younger, so I'm very happy with it." She also shared a before image, which you can see here: And here's the after again: I thought it was an absolutely wild procedure to get — and people in the comments had a lot to say about it, too. Have you ever had fox eye surgery or any other cosmetic procedure? If so, tell me below!

Princess Kate steps out at Wimbledon with Charlotte, George: See the pics
Princess Kate has stepped out again at Wimbledon − and she made it a family affair. The Princess of Wales, 43, attended the Wimbledon Championships' singles final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, July 13, where she was joined by her husband, Prince William. Two of the royal couple's kids, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, also attended with them. Their youngest child, Prince Louis, 7, was absent. Kate chose a bright blue dress with a bold shoulder bow and a wide-brimmed straw hat for the match, while Charlotte wore a ruffled white dress piped in navy. The mother and daughter donned sunglasses and waved paper fans in the heat. Seal and Keira Knightley were among the celebrities also spotted in the crowd on July 13. Princess Kate at Wimbledon: The royal serves in white look, sits next to Billie Jean King This marked another appearance at Wimbledon for Kate, who on July 12 attended the women's singles final wearing a white ensemble. Sitting next to tennis legend Billie Jean King, Kate received a standing ovation from the crowd on July 12. She later said on Instagram that it was a "wonderful day," and she congratulated Iga Świątek on her "brilliant victory." Kate's Wimbledon appearances come after she was unexpectedly absent from Royal Ascot on June 18. She had been scheduled to attend the horse-racing event but did not appear. Instead, William stepped out at the event solo. Kate battled an unspecified form of cancer in 2024, and in January, she announced she was in remission. Kate said at that time that she was focusing on her recovery and that "as anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal." "I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead," she added at the time. "There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support." Princess Kate on life after cancer: A 'roller coaster' During a July 2 visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex, Kate spoke about the idea of patients needing to put on a "brave face" throughout treatment and reflected that when the treatment is finished, "the phase afterward is really, really difficult." Why 'Superman' star Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor as 'alpha' cult leader
He steals dogs and murders innocents. He's a terrible boyfriend. He's also the worst boss ever. Yet for some reason, people seem to dig the megalomaniacal Lex Luthor in 'Superman.' The billionaire tech bro is the kind of baddie that Nicholas Hoult loves to play. With guys who 'are very mixed up in their ideologies,' he can bring some understanding to their malevolence. 'There's an element of making those characters not likable, but palatable maybe,' says the British actor, who joins the ranks of Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey and Jesse Eisenberg as on-screen Lexes. Hoult originally auditioned for Superman – a role that went to David Corenswet – but thought he might be a better Lex. Director James Gunn agreed: 'I waited for a couple weeks to let the rejection wear off and then I called him.' Then, Gunn surrounded Supes' arch nemesis with a number of colorful characters, including dangerous right-hand woman Angela Spica (María Gabriela de Faría), aka the Engineer, and Lex's influencer girlfriend Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio). And because it's a cult of personality, Lex's fearsome posse follows him wherever his shenanigans lead: 'He's this generous, loving guy who his employees love when he is feeling good,' Gunn says. 'But when he's feeling bad, we all know this guy.' Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor is mean but has some feels in 'Superman' Lex Luthor has been a staple in Superman comics since 1940, and Hoult found inspiration in those stories where he was an 'alpha' male offended by the hero just existing as an alien on Earth. 'Because he puts in so much hard work for what he's developing and himself, it's even more frustrating that Superman is just naturally gifted and lauded and applauded for his abilities,' Hoult says. He also saw Lex as 'a cult-like leader,' who amasses 'a lot of followers. Throughout the film you see him get picked apart and lose that, but he's managed to sculpt this image that people do like.' Gunn adds that Hoult brought a predatory energy to the character: The first time we see him waiting for Superman to show up, 'he is like a tiger in a cage pacing back and forth.' But there's a lot of emotion to Lex as well. In one key moment, a tear streams down his face. 'I never saw him as a psychopath,' Hoult says. 'He's just got this deep, ingrained fear and hatred. Toward the end of the film, you see his plan ruined and him humiliated" as he suffers "all these things that are painful." María Gabriela de Faría's Engineer makes a formidable Man of Steel enemy One of Lex's most lethal weapons is a living one: Transformed by nanotechnology, the Engineer is an unpredictable foe for Superman and other heroes. She can shift into various different forms – like turning her hands into saws – and can hack into any computer system, even one that's Kryptonian. 'How does it feel to connect to the machine?' de Faría says. 'Is it painful? Is it pleasurable? Does it tickle? Every time she turned herself into something, it felt different, which made it really fun for me and also more realistic because I had something to play with my actual body.' Like Lex, the Engineer is determined and willing to go to extremes to get what she wants, and she sees her boss as 'just means to an end,' de Faría says. 'She is deeply hurt by the world and she's deeply afraid of the path the world has taken. She has suffered the consequences for herself and she's willing to change it to make it better. 'Lex reacts and acts from envy and from being power-hungry,' the Venezuelan actress adds. 'Angela does it out of fear, and I don't know if acting out of fear is any better because we can see that they have the same consequences: pretty much destruction and pain and suffering.' As Eve Teschmacher, Sara Sampaio is Metropolis' selfie queen Eve Teschmacher isn't exactly menacing, but she is overly loyal to her man. And Eve has an auspicious screen debut, taking a selfie in the highest levels of LuthorCorp tower while Superman is getting smashed by a powerful enemy. 'She's like the playful part of me that I don't get to show the world very often,' says Sampaio, a Portuguese actress/model (and Victoria's Secret angel). Lex's gal pal "has this childlike wonder about her, where everything is new. She doesn't really understand what's appropriate, like when Superman is being beaten behind her. She's like, 'Oh, this is a great photo!' ' But Eve puts up with a lot. Her beau doesn't have the best history when it comes to girlfriends – most wind up imprisoned in an interdimensional pocket universe – and Lex is often seen throwing pencils at her. Sampaio came up with a backstory for her loyalty (she comes from a small city, for example, but not from wealth), though even Eve has a breaking point. 'Security, money and power can create safety in a way. She sees that Lex can provide a lifestyle for her (and) she won't have to struggle again,' Sampaio says. 'When she realizes that safety actually is not really there, she makes sure she always has a plan B, that she can escape and take care of herself. But I think everyone gets excited about handsome, powerful rich guys sometimes.'
