OPP to hold town hall for Quadeville, Ont. residents after attack on young girl
The town hall is being held at the Quadeville Community Centre at 965 Addington Rd. at 5 p.m.
Police say they are hoping to offer clarity and transparency for residents as an investigation into the case continues.
'We want to hear their concerns. We want to explain to them why we did what we did, to the level that we can. We know that this has been a horrible experience for the entire community, not just for this young girl and her family but for everyone there. It's a tight-knit community,' OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson told Newstalk 580 CFRA's Ottawa at Work with Patricia Boal on Thursday.
On Wednesday, OPP arrested a 17-year-old boy and charged him with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16 years old.
A young girl was reported missing on Monday, June 23 in Quadeville, approximately 160 kilometres west of Ottawa. The OPP Canine Unit located the girl just before 12:30 a.m. June 24 with life-threatening injuries along Quadeville Road.
Police said investigators suspected the girl was injured in an animal attack, but added, 'further testing and analysis is required.' On Wednesday, police said that samples taken from the victim's wounds 'revealed no traces of animal DNA.'
Officials had asked residents to keep children indoors or under close supervision as police worked to determine the cause of her injuries.
The girl remains in hospital.

Sarnia offender on bail arrested after cutting off ankle monitor: Police
A file image of an ankle monitor. Sarnia police say they've arrested a man who was out on bail after he allegedly tampered with his ankle monitor. Just before midnight on July 22, officers received a notification electronically that the ankle monitor had been cut. The accused, a 31-year-old man, had been on a bail release since June 30 related to multiple charges. According to police, officers found the monitor discarded in a parking lot. Further investigation revealed that the accused's bail conditions included an 11 p.m. curfew and a requirement to reside at an Exmouth Street shelter facility. Police attended that location and he was not there. Officers located the accused walking along Exmouth Street on July 25. The man has been charged with three counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Man dead after personal watercraft incident on Squamish River, RCMP say
The Squamish River is seen in this file photo. (CTV News) A man is dead after an incident on the Squamish River Friday afternoon, according to local police. Paramedics and search and rescue crews were called to the confluence of the Squamish and Cheakamus rivers west of Squamish airport around 1:45 p.m. for a report that a man had been located unresponsive, Squamish RCMP said in a news release. Responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man did not survive. 'Based on the information received, two individuals were operating personal watercrafts on the river when they became separated,' the RCMP release reads. The surviving rider found the man unresponsive, with his personal floatation device keeping him afloat, police said. Mounties said they'll be working with the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the circumstances of the death, but 'initial information' leads them to believe the death was 'a medical event' and not a result of foul play.
