Terrified locals watch on as flames rip through three vehicles on Scots street

Shocked East Lothian residents watched on as three vehicles went up in flames on Friday night.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Saturday July 19 on Caponhall Road in Tranent, with dramatic scenes as the fire ripped through one vehicle.

Images taken from the scene show smoke billowing into the sky as huge orange flames burst from the motor, reports Edinburgh Live.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue were in attendance as it spread to another car and van parked nearby.
The incident is being treated as wilful and inquiries are ongoing, however police confirmed there were no injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.05am on Saturday, 19 July, 2025, officers were called to a report of a car on fire on Caponhall Road, Tranent.
'The fire had spread to two other cars and was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
'There were no injuries. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.'

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11.44pm on July 18 to a vehicle alight on Copenhall Road, Tranent.
"During one of the repeat calls, we were informed it had spread to two cars and in total there were two cars and one van on fire.
"We extinguished the fire and we sent one appliance to the scene. We left at 12.58am."

Man, 41, appears in court after ‘disturbance' on easyJet flight

A man has appeared in court after a disturbance on an easyJet flight which was probed by counter-terror police. Abhay Nayak, 41, from Luton, was remanded following his arrest at Glasgow Airport on Sunday morning. Nayak's flight landed at around 8.20am and he was arrested and charged. On Monday, he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with assault and endangering the safety of an aircraft. He did not enter a plea and will appear in court again in eight days after being remanded in custody. Counter-terror police initially assessed video footage but Nayak is not facing terrorism charges. On Monday, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: 'We believe the incident to be contained and that nobody else was involved.'
