DDA opens second library for students at Adhchini
New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has opened its second facility under a project to convert under-utilised community centres and halls into libraries and reading rooms. This new facility, named Aarambh Pustakalya, is in Adhchini village in south Delhi. Lieutenant governor VK Saxena and chief minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the library to the people on Thursday. Officials said the library will operate 24/7 and is equipped with Wi-Fi, lockers, air-conditioning, separate toilets for men and women, a cafeteria, an outdoor sitting area and an open gymnasium. It can accommodate around 60 students at a time, with a total of 180 in three shifts of 8 hours each. The facilities are available at a monthly cost of Rs 1,000 per user. Saxena said that these efforts aim to create an excellent environment for students who come to Delhi to study. "We want to ensure that the students aren't burdened by high costs and they get a safe and secure infrastructure for pursuing their dreams. These library-cum-reading rooms will also prevent them from exploitation by private commercial entities," the LG said. The chief minister mentioned that with new policies, fresh initiatives and innovative ideas emerging daily, govt is consistently working to provide better facilities for the people.

'ITO will no longer represent waterlogging but stand as a model of sustainable solution. I congratulate our engineers and officials who worked tirelessly on the ground to make this transformation possible,' Verma said. The team then visited the DDA-developed Sadbhawana Park, which has an advanced sewage treatment plant and it treats wastewater collected from the surrounding area, which is then reused for the park's irrigation and maintenance. 'Sadbhawana Park offers a glimpse into Delhi's future — where development goes hand-in-hand with environmental sustainability. Through this STP, not only are we scientifically treating wastewater, but we are also saving thousands of litres of potable water every day. This is an inspiring model that we plan to replicate in other parts of Delhi as well,' the LG said.
