Glaslyn ospreys reunite in Wales for third year together
Aran, named after the Eryri National Park's Yr Aran summit, was previously partnered with Mrs G.She was one of the UK's most successful breeding female ospreys but failed to return from Africa in 2023.Aran was devastated, spending much of his time alone on the nest before being partnered up with Elen who took over as the Glaslyn female.She was named after the mountain Yr Elen, which sits in Eryri's Carneddau range.
Elen arrived back in Glaslyn Valley three weeks ago on March 22, according to osprey protection group Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife.Aran, who is celebrating his 11th year at Glaslyn, arrived three weeks later but was surprised to find Elen being courted by a new suitor.He has had to regain control of his territory since returning by bringing fish to Elen in order to re-establish his suitability as her partner.According to the Dyfi Osprey Project there are an estimated 300 pairs of ospreys in the UK.There are approximately 270 pairs of ospreys in Scotland, around 25 pairs in England and five pairs in Wales.Sports fans will recognise the name as one of the four professional rugby union teams in Wales.The bird of prey was formerly a symbol on Swansea RFC's jerseys with the current Ospreys logo displaying an image of an osprey mask.

Second pair of breeding ospreys in Poole a 'major milestone'
A second pair of breeding ospreys has been spotted in a "major milestone" for a reintroduction project, a charity has of Poole Harbour said the two ospreys, female 1H1 and male 374, were only the second pair of breeding ospreys in southern England since first pair, female CJ7 and male 022, hatched four chicks in of Poole Harbour said 1H1 and 374 hatched two chicks, one on 3 June and one on 5 June. "This is another major milestone for the project, and is a real testament to the hard work that goes into reintroduction projects," the charity said. Male 374 and female 1H1 first encountered one another last year and established a pair bond, the charity 1H1 returned in the spring and roamed the local area, visiting many of the nest platforms she and 374 had found the previous 5 April, 374 was also spotted in the area, and they found one another again on 6 April. The first egg was laid on 24 charity said it would not share the location of the nesting site to ensure "the ongoing protection and success" of the new added there would be no livestream of "Nest Two", but that important updates would be shared. Ospreys sign Wales back row Moriarty from Brive
Ospreys have completed the signing of Wales back row Ross Moriarty from French side British and Irish Lion returns to the Swansea-based region, where he was brought up, and is looking forward to playing at Ospreys' new St Helen's home next season."I grew up watching rugby at St Helen's as a child and it's a massive honour for me to play on the same ground as my dad and my uncle did," said Moriarty."It's a big deal for me and I look forward to giving my family the chance to watch me play more regularly."Moriarty's presence will help fill the back-row void left by the retiring Justin Tipuric, who will become the region's defence coach next season in the backroom staff of head coach Mark Jones. The 54-cap international joins from French outfit Brive, having spent two full seasons in France's second tier, Pro D2, with Les Gaillards. After previously playing for the Dragons and Gloucester, Moriarty, who toured New Zealand with the Lions in 2017, returns to where he was brought up - with both his father Paul and uncle Richard having been heavily involved with Swansea RFC over the years. That only serves to make the move to the Ospreys all the more symbolic, given their move to St Helen's next season - giving the cult-hero status of his family in Swansea. The Ospreys had been in need of back-row reinforcements, with the talismanic Justin Tipuric hanging up his boots and blue scrum cap to join Mark Jones' coaching staff ahead of next season. Flanker Tristan Davies was also confirmed to be joining local rivals Scarlets this week. The 31-year-old, who still remains eligible for Test selection, last played for Wales in March 2022, before being left out of squads under Wayne Pivac and Warren Gatland. Having fallen out of favour under Gatland, he made himself unavailable for the 2023 World Cup following his move to France.
