Govt reform agenda progressing consistently, not mere rhetoric, says PMO
KUALA LUMPUR: Claims that the "reformasi" agenda is not progressing are unfounded, as it is moving forward consistently, says Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.
The senior press secretary to the Prime Minister said the reformasi agenda is not something to be implemented overnight or merely expressed in statements, but rather is being executed through structured actions.
"Since the start of the Prime Minister's (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) administration, he has emphasised that the Madani government will always listen and stay open to constructive criticism.
"This stance is reflected in action. Every criticism is viewed as an opportunity for improvement. Today's successes mirror that approach," he said.
Tunku Nashrul said this during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) daily briefing, broadcast live on both Anwar Ibrahim's and the PMO Malaysia's Facebook pages Thursday (June 19).
Tunku Nashrul said that, as outlined by the Prime Minister through the Madani Economy Framework, the main goal is to elevate the nation's economic potential, enhance its capacity, and ensure the well-being of its citizens.
He added that Malaysia's rise of 11 places to the 23rd rank in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2025, up from 34th place last year, is due to the Madani government's sustained commitment and comprehensive implementation via a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach.
He said this is the country's best performance since 2020, proving that economic and bureaucratic reforms are yielding results and that the Madani Economy Framework is keeping the country's economy on the right track.
"This achievement also reflects the collective efforts to strengthen fiscal policy, simplify business processes, and accelerate public service delivery reforms, including over 1,000 initiatives under the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB).
"For example, the national bureaucracy perception index has jumped 22 positions, a clear signal that reforms are delivering real results, not just at the national level but also with international recognition," he said. - Bernama

RM140mil Paloh-Bekok road to reduce travel time
The RM140mil road between Kluang and Segamat will shorten the travel distance from the current 70km to just 13km. A road costing RM140mil is being constructed between Kluang and Segamat in Johor to shorten the travel distance from the current 70km to just 13km. Paloh assemblyman Lee Ting Han said the Jalan Paloh-Bekok project, which was expected to be completed by September 2027, would reduce travel time for those commuting between Paloh in Kluang and Bekok in Segamat. 'Currently, it takes travellers and residents about one hour to travel between Paloh and Bekok. 'With the new road, the travel time will be shortened to just 15 minutes.' The project, he said, would see the construction of two lanes. 'This project not only saves fuel and time, it also opens up new opportunities for economic development and eco-tourism activities for the area,' said Lee, who is also Johor investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman. The project, he said, had seen challenges in the land acquisition process that caused delays to the original schedule. Lee speaking during a meeting with government agencies and community leaders regarding the project while Tan (right) looks on. 'Now that the main issues have been resolved, I hope the project can proceed smoothly according to the timeline. 'Kluang Public Works Department will also provide monthly updates on its Facebook page to keep the public informed on the progress,' he said. Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong said he and Lee visited the project site with community leaders from both districts. 'Former Labis MP Datuk Chua Tee Yong and former Paloh assemblyman Teoh Yap Kun spent years pushing for the project. 'We are glad it will soon become a reality,' Tan said. He added that the project was initially proposed during former transport minister and MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik's tenure and was subsequently pursued by former health minister and MCA president Tan Sri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Observe proper etiquette, respect burial grounds: Mohd Na'im
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, has urged Muslims in the country to observe proper etiquette towards the deceased, respect burial grounds, and refrain from using them as places to seek blessings or gain popularity. In a Facebook post last night, Mohd Na'im said Muslims are encouraged to visit graves to remind them about the reality of death, deepen spiritual reflection, and pray for the deceased soul, not for purposes that could lead to acts of shirk (associating partners with God) or superstition. "I have followed news reports about certain individuals allegedly taking soil from the grave of Nurly Shahirah Azman in the belief that it brings blessings. Such action is deplorable and goes against the principles of Islamic faith," he said. He reminded Muslims to be cautious in their practices and not to follow actions that have no basis in Islamic law, especially those that could lead to beliefs or behaviours that contradict tenets of the Islamic faith. Mohd Na'im stressed that the act of taking soil from a grave and applying it to one's face with the belief that it brings blessings or possesses certain powers violates the boundaries of Islamic law. "I support the firm yet respectful approach taken by Nurly Shahirah's family in handling this issue, as well as the efforts of the religious authorities in monitoring burial grounds. This is in line with the government's ongoing efforts to combat superstitious practices and strengthen the Islamic faith among Muslims in the country," he said. He called on Muslims to pray for Nurly Shahirah's soul to be blessed with mercy and that her family be granted strength and patience in facing this trial. According to media reports, Nurly Shahirah's family was forced to put up a barrier around her grave at the Kampung Gong Pasir Muslim Cemetery in Kerandang, Terengganu, following actions by certain individuals who engaged in acts of shirk and superstition at the site. Nurly Shahirah, 23, a hafizah (Quran memoriser), was one of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who perished in a tragic bus accident in Gerik early this month.— BERNAMA
