Serial killer, who fed victims to crocs, held after jumping parole at ashram in Rajasthan
NEW DELHI: Ayurveda practitioner-turned-serial killer – the infamous Doctor Death, who fed his victims to crocodiles – was arrested by Delhi Police after he jumped parole last year, a senior official said.The absconder was posing as a priest under a false identity at an ashram in Rajasthan's Dausa when he was arrested on Monday, he added.
67-year-old Devender Sharma was convicted in multiple murder cases. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in seven separate cases across Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana, and a Gurgaon court even awarded him capital punishment.
DCP (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam said Sharma had been serving life sentence in Tihar Jail for the brutal killings of several taxi and truck drivers between 2002 and 2004, when he jumped parole in August 2023.

Delhi police nab 2 in Rs 10 cr stock investment scam
New Delhi: A social media chat turned into a costly ordeal for a Delhi resident, ultimately exposing a stock investment scam operated from a hotel in Nepal, with fraudulent transactions exceeding Rs 10 crore in just one month, an official said on Monday. Two people, Shashi Pratap Singh (28), a BBA graduate and Nihal Pandey (27), who holds an MCA degree, have been apprehended from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur in this regard, the police official said. Shashi disclosed that Nihal had taken him to Nepal, from where these phoney operations were being conducted. Nihal revealed that a person had tasked him with arranging multiple bank accounts for laundering the defrauded money. 'Nihal had taken Shashi to Nepal, where they stayed in a hotel with three others and handed over SIM cards and banking credentials to a person,' Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said. He added that in return, Shashi was promised a 1.5 per cent commission on transactions and reportedly received Rs 8–10 lakh in cash. Police said transactions totalling Rs 10.40 crore were conducted over a month using just one private bank account. 'The case came to light when complainant Sachin Kumar Tomar approached the police after being defrauded of Rs 8.15 lakh. He alleged that he was lured into investing in a fraudulent online trading platform by a woman named Sakshi Yadav, whom he met on social media,' Gautam said. She persuaded the victim to open a trading account and added him to a messaging group, claiming it was operated by her uncle and an associate named Rakesh, he said. Tomar deposited Rs 8.15 lakh into bank accounts. However, when he attempted to withdraw the returns on his 'profits,' the transactions failed, and his access was blocked. A case was registered, and investigators found that Rs 5.75 lakh of the cheated funds had been transferred to a private bank account. Further probe revealed the account was jointly held by Shashi and his father, Ramashankar Singh, the DCP said. 'Although the father claimed no knowledge of the transactions, he admitted to being a joint account holder. Shashi was arrested following sustained interrogation,' an officer said, adding that Nihal was also arrested from Gorakhpur. The gang operated by first contacting potential victims through social media platforms and posed as financial experts. They then lured victims with the promise of high returns on stock market investments. Initially, small profits were shown to build trust. As soon as larger investments were made, victims were blocked or told their accounts were frozen due to fictitious compliance execute this fraud on a large scale, the accused needed multiple bank accounts and SIM cards, which they obtained by luring people with cash incentives, the officer said.

Married couple held for snatching, vehicle theft
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested a married couple allegedly involved in a series of snatchings and vehicle thefts in outer Delhi's Rani Bagh area, an official said on Monday. The duo -- identified as Rahul alias Mota (30) and his wife -- used to first steal two-wheelers, use them to commit snatchings and robberies, and then discard them in an attempt to avoid being tracked by law enforcement agencies, he said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sachin Sharma said, 'On June 25, a woman reported to the police that while she was walking to an aerobics centre near Rishi Nagar, a man and a woman on a scooter approached her. The woman, dressed in a pink suit and was riding pillion, snatched her gold chain and while the man sped the bike away.' A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Rani Bagh police station. The investigators examined footage from over 300 CCTV cameras in and around the crime scene and at various escape routes. 'A scooter in one of the recordings matched the description. When we traced the vehicle's registration number, it was found to have been stolen from Nihal Vihar. A theft case was registered on the same day,' DCP Sharma added. Police tracked the movement of the suspects through CCTV trail, which eventually led them to Nangloi. A local informer identified the suspects as Rahul alias Mota, and a woman, both residents of Sultanpuri. While the suspects were on the run, the police received intelligence that they were hiding at Hastsal in Uttam Nagar. The accused were apprehended after multiple raids. 'A stolen scooter used in the commission of the snatching and a gold chain weighing approximately 20 grams were recovered from their possession,' the DCP said, adding that Rahul is previously involved in 10 criminal cases, while his wife has five prior cases registered against her.

Fuel ban for end-of-life vehicles kicks in Delhi today; Govt Departments to ensure strict compliance
Petrol pumps across Delhi will no longer provide fuel to end-of-life (EoL) vehicles starting July 1 under the directions of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), with the Transport Department along with the Delhi Police and traffic personnel putting in place a detailed enforcement strategy to ensure strict compliance. In a major step to curb vehicular pollution, authorities are gearing up for strict enforcement from Tuesday (July 1, 2025) under the directions of the CAQM. The Transport Department has chalked out a detailed deployment plan involving personnel from its organisation, Delhi Police, Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The Transport Department has finalised its deployment strategy for enforcement squads while MCD teams will also be deployed at the fuel stations. Delhi Police personnel will be deployed in fuel stations numbered 1 to 100 while the Transport Department will mobilise 59 exclusive teams across fuel stations numbered 101 to 159. One traffic police officer will be stationed at each of the 350 identified petrol pumps to monitor and prevent the refuelling of vehicles that have exceeded their prescribed lifespan — 10 years for diesel vehicles and 15 years for petrol vehicles. "Our traffic personnel will ensure that the vehicle is impounded and a challan is issued to the owner of the ELVs [end-of-life vehicles]," a senior police officer said. Two additional police personnel will be deployed at each petrol pump to maintain law and order during the enforcement drive. "Two police personnel will maintain law and order. No one will be allowed to breach law and order during the drive," the officer added. The CAQM had earlier issued this directive as part of its broader mandate to improve Delhi's deteriorating air quality. Additionally, the Delhi government issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on June 17 to enforce the ban on refuelling EoL vehicles. The SOPs mandate that all petrol pumps must maintain a log, either manual or digital, of all denied fuel transactions involving such vehicles, officials said. According to the CAQM directive, all EoL vehicles — including diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years — will be prohibited from being refuelled in Delhi beginning July 1, regardless of their state of registration. The SOPs specify that fuel stations must prominently display signage stating "Fuel will not be dispensed to End of Life Vehicles — i.e. 15 years old Petrol and CNG and 10 years old Diesel 01.07.2025." Petrol stations have also been directed to train their staff on CAQM regulations and compliance procedures for denying fuel to the EoL vehicles. "Maintain a log [manual or digital] of denial transactions to End of Life Vehicles for reporting on a weekly basis to the Transport Department at the SOP states. The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) has been tasked with ensuring the effective functioning of Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera systems installed at the fuel stations. "These systems shall capture and display the registration details of all vehicles entering the fuelling station premises and identify the EoL vehicles in real-time," the SOP further notes. The department has also been directed to initiate immediate legal action against the identified EoL vehicles, including their impounding and disposal. Fuel stations violating these norms will be reported weekly to the CAQM and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for further action. Non-compliance by fuel station operators may attract penalties under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A 2018 Supreme Court judgment had banned diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi. A 2014 National Green Tribunal (NGT) order also prohibits the parking of vehicles aged over 15 years in public places.
