Details emerge about Little League coach in hot water over heated dugout scene
One Little League softball coach is under fire after she was recently caught on ESPN's broadcast putting her hands on a player, appearing to shush her in a disciplinary manner.
But the incident has become less straightforward, as it appears that it happened between a mother and daughter: Camden-Wyoming (Delaware) head coach Shani Benson and pitcher Shai Benson.
At the end of the second inning in last week's Delaware-New Jersey clash, Benson's team entered the dugout as she began coaching them.
It quickly escalated as the player, appearing to be Benson's daughter, spoke back to her mother and was quickly shushed with a stern finger to the lips that forced her into a full lean-back.

'It's never good to put one's finger/hand on anyone, period! It's a bad look even if it's her kid!' one X user wrote about the incident.
'Regardless of anything else, she wouldn't coach another game. Ever,' another wrote.

'This is what snowflakes pass as physical assault nowadays? She put her finger over her mouth and told her to be quiet,' a user commented. 'There had been a collision at 1B right before this and this girl was upset about it & talking trash. Coach was telling her to be quiet.'
'I just don't understand the complaints. She didn't hit the girl, she put her hand over her mouth and told her to be quiet,' another said. 'That's what a responsible adult should do when their daughter is running their mouth.'
It's apparent, given the split response on X, the situation toes the line of what is acceptable in a setting where the discipline is on display for an entire team and, in this case, a world of viewers at home.

However, the mother-daughter development adds to the fallout of an already controversial situation.
Delaware went on to win the game, 3-1, to reach the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, where Pennsylvania took the Bensons and Co. down, 5-4.

ESPN analyst Heather Dinich believes the Playoff Predictor is underrating Clemson in 2025
ESPN's Playoff Predictor has put Clemson in the thick of the national conversation once again, even if its title odds remain modest. The Tigers are given a 47.3% shot at making the 12-team College Football Playoff, according to the latest ESPN analytics model. That marks the first time Clemson is projected to have at least a 10% CFP chance in consecutive seasons since the program's dominant six-year stretch from 2015 to 2020. However, the model gives the Tigers just a 2.8% chance to win the national championship, which would be their first since 2018. Not everyone agrees with that outlook — especially ESPN's Heather Dinich. 'Clemson was overrated heading into the 2024 season. Now it's underrated,' Dinich wrote. 'The Tigers' offense is loaded, starting with much-improved quarterback Cade Klubnik and a deep receiver corps.' She pointed to the team's veteran offensive line and dominant defensive front as reasons why Clemson could return to national prominence and potentially win the ACC again. A 2–0 finish in non-conference games — with wins over LSU to open the season and rival South Carolina to close it — could give the Tigers a major edge in the eyes of the CFP selection committee, particularly in head-to-head comparisons with SEC teams. Still, Dinich acknowledged the ACC schedule may not help Clemson's case much. 'If Clemson doesn't go 2–0 against the SEC, this could be an issue,' she said, citing the lack of Miami on the regular season schedule. 'SMU and Louisville could be top-25 opponents — and maybe Syracuse or Georgia Tech sneak in. But Clemson can't afford another loss to Louisville, and they shouldn't drop one to SMU at home either.' Even with a potential loss in the ACC Championship Game, Dinich believes Clemson could still qualify for the playoff as an at-large — though a weak conference resume might be a sticking point. Clemson's projected path is slightly ahead of Miami's, with the Hurricanes coming in at 46.3% to make the CFP and 2.7% to win it all. SMU is next among ACC teams at 21.1%. South Carolina, meanwhile, is ranked 22nd in the Playoff Predictor at 20.3%. Texas leads the way nationally with an 83.9% chance to reach the CFP and a 24.1% title probability. Lando Norris beats Oscar Piastri in tense finish to keep F1 championship fight alive
Lando Norris won a riveting Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, cutting fellow McLaren driver Oscar Piastri's lead in the championship standings to 9 points in the last Formula 1 race before the summer break. The race delivered a tense final few laps, with the two title rivals fighting neck-and-neck for victory until the very last corner of the final lap. 'After I saw Lando going for a one [stop], I knew I was going to have to overtake on track, which is must easier said than done around here,' Piastri said. 'I tried a few things. It was a gamble either way. And today unfortunately we were just on the wrong side of it.' Hungary was the race that foreshadowed their rivalry one year ago. Piastri pulled ahead at the start, but Norris took the position back at the pit stops due to strategic decisions by McLaren. Then the team ordered Norris to slow down and let Piastri overtake him for the win — which he did after resisting it for many laps. It was a dramatic and controversial sequence that led to Piastri's first Grand Prix victory in Formula 1. Overall, Norris comfortably beat the younger Piastri throughout the 2024 season, but fell short to Verstappen in his bid for the championship. This year, the McLaren drivers have been more evenly matched. A series of mid-race radio messages between the McLaren drivers and their race engineers crystallized the battle. After dipping a wheel into the gravel, Lando was told to 'just keep the focus — you don't want those mistakes.' It came one race after Norris was similarly put on a different tire strategy but made a few crucial errors that prevented him from challenging Piastri. Piastri, meanwhile, was asked mid-race whether he wants the strategy to focus on challenging Leclerc for the win or fending off Norris for second place. Piastri's response was telling: 'If you still think beating Lando is realistic, then: doing that.' 'I don't really care about Leclerc,' Piastri added on team radio a few laps later. 'I just want the best chance to try and beat Lando. That's the important thing at the moment.' It's all about the world championship. Verstappen says he's staying at Red Bull The race weekend also put an end to two of the biggest open questions in the sport. Verstappen, the reigning four-time world champion, told reporters he will stay with the embattled Red Bull team next season, finally settling persistent questions about whether he will jump ship to Mercedes. Ferrari announced it is re-signing team principal Frédéric Vasseur to a 'multiple-year contract,' ending some recent speculation about the Italian team's leadership. But all was not well with team this weekend. Leclerc voiced his frustration with the team's decision-making mid-race as his hopes of victory faded. Leclerc ultimately lost third place on lap 62, when Russell overtook him. And Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, qualified 12th in Hungary before calling himself 'useless' while speaking to reporters. Hamilton finished in 12th place. The next F1 race is on Sunday, August 31 in the Netherlands.

She'll likely sneak in for a pin on Sky after Ripley hits Sky with the Riptide, setting up a possible loss to Stephanie Vaquer at Clash in Paris. Does Bayley, who's been heavily involved in this storyline, show up at SummerSlam? The answer is a resounding yes. The question, however, is who she helps, or rather, who she shafts. If Valkyria loses, she can never challenge for the Intercontinental title as long as Lynch is champion, so the best bet is Bayley getting involved and costing Valkyria the match given the No DQ rules. That would allow Lynch to move onto a different feud while Bayley, possibly as a heel, continues her storyline with Valkyria. The steel cage stipulation is supposed to keep Solo Sikoa's henchmen out of the ring, but of course, anyone who's ever seen a WWE cage match knows that isn't happening. Expect at least a few, if not all, of Sikoa's 'MFTs' to show up and help him defeat Jacob Fatu inside the steel structure. Although Sikoa taking another loss is not ideal, WWE can book it in a way that protects him and allows him to quickly move from the midcard to the main event picture where he belongs. Admittedly, however, this match is one of the more predictable ones of the weekend and could go either way. AJ Styles and Dominik Mysterio have quietly built up a decent little midcard feud that should result in a hot match at SummerSlam. The fans love Styles and hate Mysterio, so this could be a show-stealer. Mysterio had his 'WrestleMania moment' when he won this very same title at WrestleMania 41, but he's back to being a full-blown heel once again. A controversial win for 'Dirty Dom' wouldn't be surprising, but with Styles no longer really booked as a main eventer, he should get the win and elevate the IC title. WWE is finally giving the WWE Tag Team Championship a much-deserved spotlight after leaving the tag titles off a slew of major pay-per-views in recent years. The SmackDown tag team division has been a highlight of the brand since 2024, and that's why this 6-way tag team match could go any number of ways. With strong pushes for duos like Andrade and Rey Fenix as well as former champions The Street Profits, this rare TLC match isn't as predictable as most SummerSlam matches. The Wyatt Sicks have only held the titles for a few weeks, however, making them the leading candidate to leave WWE SummerSlam with the gold. If anyone else leaves MetLife Stadium with the titles, the strongly-pushed combo of Andrade and Fenix is the best bet.
