Bad news for Sunrisers Hyderabad fans: In a matter of bad news for the fans of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Hyderabad CEO Kavya Maran, Kavya's father and owner of South India's big media company Sun Network, Kalanidhi Maran has been accused of money laundering. As per a PTI report, DMK Lok Sabha MP Dayanidhi Maran has accused his brother Kalanidhi Maran of 'financial crimes,' and asked him to restore the entire shareholding position of Sun TV and related companies to their original state or face legal and regulatory action.'
The main dispute is regarding the shareholding of the Sun Network, which was equally split between the Maran and Karunanidhi families before 2003. As per the allegations, the company funds were misused to launch ventures like Sun Direct TV, Sun Pictures, an FM channel, and IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad after 2003. In the notice, Dayanidhi Maran has accused Kalanithi of committing 'fraudulent practices' and 'misgovernance' during the takeover of Sun TV. As per media reports, Dayanidhi Maran has alleged that his brother was involved in a series of 'calculated and coordinated financial crimes' including cheating and money laundering.
If the allegations are proved, BCCI may take actions strict against Kavya Maran and her IPL team. 'White-collar criminality'
Such acts amount to white-collar criminality of the highest order and have caused irreparable loss to the legitimate stakeholders of the companies in question, Dayanidhi alleged in the notice. Meanwhile, Sun TV said 'the alleged matter dates back to 22 years when the company was a closely held private limited company.'
Following this development, Sun TV's stock fell as much as 5.25 per cent to Rs 580 in early trade on Friday. However, it later trimmed some losses to trade 3.41 per cent lower at Rs 591. 8 killed, 21 hurt as bus falls 100 feet off road in Himachal's Mandi
A state-run bus veered off a steep mountain road and plunged 100 feet in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, killing eight people, including four women, police said on Thursday. The accident took place at Tarangla near Maseran when the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus with 29 people, including the driver and the conductor, on board was on its way to Durgapur in the district from Sarkaghat. The state government has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident. Five people were declared dead at the Civil Hospital Sarkaghat, two at the Government Medical College Nerchowk and one in AIIMS Bilaspur, police said. Seventeen injured people are under treatment at the Government Medical College Nerchowk, AIIMS Bilaspur and RKGMC Hamirpur while four are taking treatment in the Civil Hospital Sarkaghat, they added. The accident was noticed by local residents who immediately informed the police. Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said local police and ambulance teams promptly reached the site and carried out a rescue operation, navigating the steep terrain to evacuate victims. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, Verma, who was at the spot, said. Some reports said that an injured woman passenger asked a person, who helped her, to bring her bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh cash. The helper searched for the bag and handed it over to the injured woman. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri who also holds the portfolio of transport department met the injured in various hospitals and also visited the accident site. He said that the state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident. Agnihotri also said that a team of the technical wing of the Transport Department is working to find out the cause of the accident. He enquired about the well-being of the injured undergoing treatment in hospitals and asked health department officials to provide the best treatment facilities to them. The government has provided immediate relief amount of Rs 25,000 each to the families of those who died in the bus accident and Rs 5,000 each to the injured. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief over the incident and directed the Mandi district administration to provide ex-gratia grant to the next of kin of the deceased and best of treatment to the injured. He also prayed to the God to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss. Meanwhile, BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident. In a post on social media, she prayed to the almighty to give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families.

Chennai will get its fourth desalination plant at Perur by February next year
Nearly 50% of the work to build the fourth desalination plant along East Coast Road in Perur has been completed so far. The speedy completion of the project will facilitate providing 24x7 piped water supply in the Adyar zone. Inspecting the works in progress to build the Rs. 6,078.40 crore desalination plant to treat 400 million litres of seawater a day (mld), Municipal Administration Minister instructed the officials to complete the work by February 2026. Preliminary work is in progress to lay 59-km long pipeline from the desalination plant to Porur and also build other distribution infrastructure like storage tank and pumping facility at Porur. Chennai Metrowater is also chalking out a project to improve its infrastructure in Pallipattu and Thiruvanmiyur distribution stations to enable round the clock water supply to Adyar zone residents. A press release said the water agency has laid lines to draw raw sea water and release brine into the sea. Work is being carried out to construct various units, including intake structure and pumping station, limestone filter, clear water reservoir and reverse osmosis building. Once the project is finished, nearly 22.67 lakh residents in both Greater Chennai Corporation and Tambaram corporation and 20 other village panchayats would be provided drinking water supply. Some of the areas to be covered including Manapakkam, Vandalur, Kilambakkam, Nandanam and Meenambakkam. also inspected the operation of two desalination plants at Nemmeli with capacity to treat 110 mld and 150 mld respectively. Officials from Chennai Metrowater and Chengalpattu district administration were also present.

Broadway bus terminus to be closed for redevelopment of multi modal facility in the first week of August
The Broadway Bus terminus is expected to be closed for redevelopment in the first week of August as the Chennai Corporation has completed work on the temporary bus terminus near NRT Bridge (Clive Battery) on Ibrahim Salai in Royapuram. At a meeting on Thursday, officials of various agencies agreed to start operations of the temporary bus terminus in the first week of August. Residents have demanded better connectivity between Beach Station and the temporary bus stand to improve public transportation during a period of 30 months of construction of the multi modal facility in Broadway. Chennai Corporation has constructed 55 bus bays, 900 sq m of pedestrian waiting platform with covered shelter, 65 RCC chairs, new bituminous road covering 5300 sq m, 35 street lights of 12 m height, 31 LED focus lights and 200 sq m of passenger waiting hall with 50 chairs. The civic body has installed RO drinking water facility at the temporary bus terminus. As residents have demanded councillors to talk about the safety of women in the temporary bus terminus, GCC has planned several facilities to promote safety. Aavin will create a parlour for passengers in the temporary bus terminus. In a bid to prevent flooding of the area, GCC has created 250 m of storm water drains around the bus terminus. A sewer network measuring 200 m has also been completed. A water sump with a capacity of 21,000 litres has also been completed. GCC has also created facilities for first aid and mothers' feeding rooms, dining rooms for MTC staff and ticket counters. As many as 51 toilet seats have been completed. Self-help groups will be permitted to set up shops in the temporary bus terminus. Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of CMRL will develop the multi modal facility in Broadway with viability gap funding of Rs.200 crore from the State government for the bus terminal, soft loan of RS. 115 crore from CMDA for external infrastructure and term loan of Rs.506 crore from TUFIDCO to GCC. A skywalk will be constructed at a cost of Rs.74 crore to connect Metrorail, suburban and bus terminus in Broadway.
