Kaepernick, Lynch turn to hockey to help Diversity Alliance host tournament for children in Toronto
The two will join members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance in hosting a road hockey tournament for marginalized youth in Toronto on Aug. 16, the alliance announced Thursday. The HDA is made up of current and former NHL players of color with an objective to eradicate racism in hockey while making the sport more inclusive and accessible to youths who might not be able to afford to play.
Billed as the world's largest youth BIPOC road hockey tournament, the event will be free of charge for the 250 youngsters set to participate.
HDA members include Calgary forward Nazem Kadri and Pittsburgh defenseman Matt Dumba, and it is chaired by former minor league journeyman Akim Aliu.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns' crowded quarterback competition will add one more due to injuries. The Browns are signing Tyler Huntley, a person close to the situation said Monday night. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced. The Browns will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Tuesday to take part in joint workouts with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday and a preseason game Friday night. Huntley will become the the sixth quarterback on the Browns roster. Joe Flacco is in the lead to start the Sept. 7 opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, but faces competition from Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Deshaun Watson is on the physically unable to perform list, but was listed fifth on the first depth chart released on Monday. Watson is expected to miss the entire season due to two Achilles injuries. However, the Browns are lacking healthy QBs at the moment. Pickett and Gabriel are dealing with hamstring injuries while Sanders sat out the Aug. 2 practice due to a sore arm. Pickett and Gabriel participated in individual drills Monday, but are questionable to do any team drills the rest of the week. Coach Kevin Stefanski would like to have Flacco go in the joint practice but sit him out of the preseason game. Barring any other injuries, that would make Sanders and Huntley the quarterbacks for Friday night's game. 'Injuries are a part of this game. They're frustrating from the standpoint of when you lose a guy for a good amount of time you feel, that's tough on the players. But the dealing with injuries, adjusting because injuries, that's just part of the game," Stefanski said before Monday's practice. Huntley was with the Browns during the preseason last year, completing 37 of 51 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a 92.1 passer rating before being released. He signed with Baltimore's practice squad before being claimed by the Miami Dolphins before Week 3. Huntley started five games for the Dolphins, including Week 17 at Cleveland when he was 22 of 26 for 225 yards and a touchdown in Miami's 20-3 victory. As Cowboys and Micah Parsons negotiations lag 2 weeks into training camp, that doesn't mean Parsons isn't talking with leadership
OXNARD, Calif. — As the Dallas Cowboys' first-team offense faced its first-team defense in 11-on-11 drills on Monday, Micah Parsons watched from the sideline. The two-time All-Pro edge rusher wore his No. 11 navy jersey atop a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants, and his basketball shoes instead of cleats were yet another sign he would not be practicing. But Parsons wasn't simply present to hold in, rather than hold out, to avoid absence fines amid lagging negotiations on a contract extension. 'The meetings have been really good,' Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. 'What you see from him is the coaching piece of it and all that that he's doing. Diving into the other guys and I don't think you'll see much different. 'But again: very engaged, asks good questions, and I don't think that that's going to change.' Two weeks have elapsed since the Cowboys reported to training camp in California, a two-week period in which Parsons has not fully participated in any practice. On Monday, Parsons spoke at length with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to the side of defensive line drills during periods of individual work. He then spent most of team drills with Cowboys vice president of player personnel Will McClay, Parsons and McClay watching at ground level from the sideline while team owner and general manager Jerry Jones watched from an adjacent temporary tower. Parsons also spent time with cornerback Trevon Diggs during the Cowboys' late-practice 7-on-7 period. Parsons wore his Cowboys jersey Monday after not doing so Saturday (the players were off Sunday). It was unclear whether Schottenheimer directly asked Parsons to return to wearing his jersey, but it was not unclear whether Schottenheimer preferred that. 'Not a big deal,' Schottenheimer said. 'I mean, we want all of our guys to be the same. And again, there's usually a reason if a guy's not in that. But again, for the most part we're a team. We're going to always act like a team and usually you'll see them all in gear.' Parsons' reason for not wearing the jersey Saturday seemed either connected to, or fortuitously timed near, his Friday request for a trade. Parsons enters the fifth-year option of his rookie deal with the team that selected him 12th overall in 2021. He's dominated in his first four campaigns, racing to 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles, 112 quarterback hits and nine forced fumbles in 63 games. The Cowboys insist they want to pay him and plan to keep him. But negotiations dovetailed when Parsons met directly with Jones in March, a meeting that Jones considered a formal negotiation — a premise that left Parsons feeling misled. Parsons asked the Cowboys to continue and finalize negotiations with his agent, David Mulugheta. Jones became frustrated that Parsons wasn't simply honoring the deal the team owner believed they had, multiple sources with knowledge of the negotiation factors told Yahoo Sports. As of Friday, the Cowboys had yet to send Mulugheta a single contract offer. 'Still not a call[,] email or text to my agent about starting a negotiation,' Parsons wrote in a post on Twitter. 'Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract.' That remained true as of Monday evening, a person with knowledge of negotiations confirmed to Yahoo Sports. The Cowboys seem to be taking a good cop-bad cop approach, with Jones digging his heels in with, at times, hard-ball negotiation tactics while the coaching staff and even front office members like McClay continue to engage Parsons. The coaching staff has been hesitant to comment or speculate on where negotiations will go, downplaying what the loss of Parsons means to offensive linemen unable to get the caliber of reps an All-Pro could provide. But Schottenheimer said defensive game plans will not change amid Parsons' current stance. The coaching staff expects Parsons to be available for the Sept. 4 season opener at the Philadelphia Eagles and beyond. 'We're still planning on moving Micah around and putting him in all the spots that we see him and using our fronts the way we want to see it,' Schottenheimer said. 'We go about our business every day. We live in the moment. We focus in the moment. And again, like I said, I talked to you guys the other day, not going to get a lot into it. 'But I expect Micah to be here.'

Browns QB depth chart: Cleveland adds Tyler Huntley in training camp
One of the most intriguing quarterback competitions in the NFL this offseason has a new challenger. The Cleveland Browns are adding a former Pro Bowler to their crowded quarterback room. Former Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley is signing with the Browns, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. His signing comes as the Browns' passers miss some time with injury. He went 2-3 and completed 86 of 133 passes (64.7%) for 829 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had 26 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to his year in Miami, Huntley spent the first four years of his NFL career in Baltimore as a backup for starter Lamar Jackson. He started the Ravens' lone playoff game that season, a 24-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Huntley's started a total of 14 games in his career with a 5-9 record in those starts. Browns QB depth chart Cleveland has released its first depth chart for the quarterback position on Aug. 4 that shows veteran Joe Flacco at the top. He's expected to be the starter come Week 1 against Cincinnati. Huntley's signing adds another player to the Browns quarterback room comprised of veterans Pickett and Flacco as well as rookies Gabriel and Sanders. Both Pickett and Gabriel are out of practice with hamstring injuries and Sanders just returned on Aug. 4 after taking time off due to shoulder soreness. The 40-year-old Flacco started five games for the Browns in 2023 and led them to the playoffs.
