Maren Morris Makes Surprising Claim About Meeting Carrie Underwood
On a recent clip of her interview from The Howard Stern Show, Morris revealed how she first met the country singer: in a writer's room.
When asked who the first big star she got to work with was, Morris replied that her publisher received a call from Underwood's team asking to work with the young singer/songwriter.
"That was my first big, like, artist to be in the room with," Morris said. "And I had never even had a song recorded by her. So I felt like that was a really great sign that she just had heard something I had written and loved and was like, 'I want to know who wrote this and write with them.'"Despite writing two pieces, Morris and Underwood's songs from that day were never recorded, though according to Morris, this was probably for the best.
"I'm kind of relieved she didn't record them because I just would have gotten even more arrogant if I, on the first bat artist co-write, had gotten two cuts," Morris joked.
Before her own breakthrough with her album Hero, Morris co-wrote songs for household-name country singers, including "Last Turn Home" for Tim McGraw and "Second Wind" for Kelly Clarkson.

See Dua Lipa Bring Out Jamiroquai to Perform ‘Virtual Insanity' in London
Throughout Dua Lipa's recent tour of Down Under, the singer covered a different Australian artist every show. That tradition continued Friday as her Radical Optimism tour came to London, with Dua Lipa bringing out Jamiroquai to perform that band's 1996 hit 'Virtual Insanity.' 'It feels really, really special to be here tonight,' Lipa told the sold-out Wembley Stadium crowd. 'It is 10 years since our first ever London show to about 350 people, and I just dreamt of a night like this where I get to be in front of 70,000 people.' Copyright Plans Dua Lipa Continues Local Cover Streak by Singing Enrique Iglesias' 'Hero' in Madrid Lipa then added that for her London gig, she wanted to bring out an artist who 'inspired' her and 'someone who has really been a trailblazer for British music and has really paved the way.' 'The one of one, the only, give it up as loud as you fucking can, give it up for Jamiroquai,' Lipa said as that group's singer Jay Kay strolled out onstage, wearing a typically audacious hat. The two singers and her band then launched into 'Virtual Insanity.' Dua Lipa's Australian and New Zealand tour saw the singer cover the likes of AC/DC, Lorde, and Kylie Minogue, while also bringing out guests like Troye Sivan, Tame Impala, and Crowded House's Neil Finn. The local covers have continued — though less frequently — as the tour headed to Europe, with Lipa covering Enrique Iglesias' 'Hero' in Madrid. The singer will also perform Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, so expect another cover or guest to shake up the set list. After that, Lipa will head to Liverpool and Dublin to close out the European leg, with a North American tour to kick off in September. Even Maren Morris Wants to Know What Makes La Barbecue Michelin Star Worthy
It's canon now that La Barbecue is where all the celebrities stop when they come to Austin: Seth Rogan and the cast of Apple+'s The Studio hit up the beloved barbecue joint during SXSW (food influencer Keith Lee made it his only stop during the conference as well), and Dua Lipa popped in when she was in town headlining ACL. Now, Texas-born country singer Maren Morris wants a piece of that brisket. Or, more precisely, a chopped brisket sandwich. In an Instagram post on Saturday, June 28, Morris rolled through Bat City on her Dreamsicle Tour, supporting her album of the same name that was released in May. She and a few members of the crew took a barbecue break. Morris noted that it was a sweltering 93 degrees out (plus humidity), but that she was going on a Michelin-star barbecue hunt anyway. In the carousel of photos, Morris posted one of the sign outside La Barbecue on East Cesar Chavez, a shot of her with three other people at a table on the restaurant's patio, a shot of the La Barbecue staff working behind the counter, and one of a lunch of four chopped brisket sandwiches with sides of spicy garlic pickles and regular pickles. Hurtado BBQ, which has a shop in her hometown of Arlington, jumped into the comments section with a 'bruh' — we're going to guess to register disappointment? Jealousy? Who knows. Still to come: Morris's review of the place and a weigh-in on what Michelin-worthy barbecue means, exactly. Or is that asking too much? See More:
