Donell Jones replaces Tank as headliner at Ndlala Mall's grand relaunch
Donell Jones will replace Tank as the headliner for the upcoming Ndlala Mall relaunch in Pretoria. Previously known as Sterland Mall, it has been revamped to include a state-of-the-art arena, promising an elevated entertainment hub. The reimagined mall seeks to revive Pretoria's entertainment legacy while fostering job opportunities and empowering local talent. Following last week's announcement that US R&B legend Tank could no longer perform as the headliner for businessman Thami Ndlala and his media personality wife Lerato Kganyago's Ndlala Mall, organisers have announced his replacement - U Know What's Up hitmaker Donell Jones. The Ndlala Mall, previously known as Pretoria's iconic Sterland Mall, was scheduled to relaunch on Saturday 2 August. However, organisers announced its postponement last Wednesday, saying that Tank could no longer make it, 'as something has fallen apart businesswise, which is going to keep him from fulfilling his obligation'. 'It is an honour to have an artist of such a great calibre in the music industry as the main performer at the opening,' Ndlala said. Now scheduled for Saturday 23 August, the mall's relaunch will be hosted in its state-of-the-art Ndlala Arena, boasting 55 seats. It will also feature performances by local artists such as Zonke Dikana and Vusi Nova. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ndlala Mall (@ndlala_mall) Though it was unclear when Ndlala and Kganyago acquired the mall, best known as Sterland, it was a once-loved destination for movie theatre goers. Its popularity declined over the years due to the ageing infrastructure, as well as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on cinemas. Previously, Ndlala said: 'This isn't just a new chapter, it's the revival of Pretoria's beating heart! Ndlala Mall carries the torch of our city's iconic entertainment legacy, reimagined for a new generation. 'We're creating real employment opportunities for our community while building a stage where local talent shines and global stars will dazzle. The energy you'll feel here, in these walls, through these experiences, will echo the magic this local has always been known for. This is more than a launch, it's the homecoming.'
