For those considering alternatives, PrettyLittleThing carries the Petite Blue Strappy Pinstripe Tiered Maxi Dress priced at £26, and River Island also offers the Black Long Sleeve Floral Lace Trim Mini Dress for £10 right now and Next presents the Jersey Waisted Summer Dress for £38.
Delighted customers have taken their praise online, praising the New Look dress which is described on the website: "The shape of this dress creates an instant sun-ready feel.
"It has short puffy sleeves and flattering ruching at the bodice before falling loosely to a midi length.", reports Bristol Live.
Reviews for the dress showcase customer satisfaction, with comments such as: "Wonderful dress, dress up or down perfect versatility."

Meanwhile, another shopper expressed: "Gorgeous red dress. Bought this in red as its my favourite colour and have worn it casual with flats and dressed up with heels."
A third customer said: "Beautiful, simple, black square neckline maxi dress. Fits well and looks lovely.
"Dress up with healed sandals or wear casual with trainers. Both look really good. Ordered online with no issues and collected from my local store."
An impressed fourth shopper said: "This feels so much more expensive than it is - lovely natural fibre blend and pockets too!
"And it's nice to have a properly long maxi dress rather than a midi as I find they often hit at an unflattering point, but this looks very elegant. I genuinely might get another one because I like it so much."
Although the dress received high marks from some, there were nonetheless shoppers encountering issues, particularly in relation to sizing.
One shopper reported: "Sleeves don't stay on your shoulders very well but other than that a beautiful dress. I sized down I probably could have gone 2 sizes smaller."
Another customer remarked on the fit, saying: "Comfortable but fits larger than expected.
"Would take at least one size if not two. Shoulders also felt too long but this might be better if I sized down."
In spite of these critiques, the New Look dress has received plenty of compliments.
Another happy shopper said: "Beautiful red summer dress. Beautiful quality dress."
Another shopper said: "Beautiful dress with pockets.
"I saw this dress in the window of the Southampton store and immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately they didn't have the right size, they do seem to run slightly bigger in my opinion.

They are also sure to look gorgeous worn with wedges and a blouse for an evening occasion. For those who fancy a wider leg, Next offers the Stay Smart Wide Leg Linen Rich Trousers for £36. Rowena Linen Trousers £65 White Stuff Buy here As reported by the Express, the Rowena Linen Trousers have garnered over 260 reviews from White Stuff customers, with the majority giving them a full five-star rating. One delighted customer shared: "Excellent linen trousers in attractive fabric. Cool and comfortable." "I now have three pairs of Rowena trousers," gushed another satisfied shopper. "Looking at purchasing a fourth pair. They are so comfy and cool on hot days. Teamed with a beautiful top, you are summer ready." Another buyer hailed them as the 'perfect summer trousers', raving: "Fit perfectly. Useful deep pockets. Very well made and wash well. Love them so much I now have three pairs in different colours." However, not every White Stuff customer was won over by the Rowena Linen Trousers, with one explaining: "I had to return the item as the fit was incorrect. I take a very small size and although the trousers were size six petite, the fit was way too loose. Unfortunately I had to do a return." Someone else, however, left a glowing review: "These trousers are perfect. They fit well, hang well and feel so comfy with the elasticated waist at the back. I'm 5ft 4ins and can never get trousers to fit length-wise, but these in petite are a great length. "I find a lot of linen products are either thin and see-through, or stiff and crinkly, but these are just right in the middle - a lovely quality of linen. Can't wait to wear them on my first cruise next week... I may even buy another pair in teal."

A wise man might even consider this comedy gold

The Monkey Barrel, Edinburgh Learning new facts at a comedy gig is always an added bonus. Someone who can simultaneously educate and entertain is undoubtedly a double threat. At the start of his show, Ayo Adenekan informs us that only around 2% of Edinburgh's population identify as Black. The 23-year-old Nigerian-Scottish comedian goes on to describe what it's like to be a Black, queer man growing up in such an overwhelmingly white city. There's a gentle ease to Ayo's story-telling. A laid-back charm. We're soon hanging onto every softly-spoken word. At primary school, he desperately wanted to stand out, not stick out. Tales of his auditions attempts for the Years 1-3 Nativity play would melt the hardest of hearts. A wise man might even consider it comedy gold. Read More: Difficult issues are dismantled with razor-sharp wit and class. At the barber's, Ayo throws shade on the fade as well as the accompanying casual racism. Activism is acknowledged and explored via the back seat of the school bus. It turns out the cool kids always have the best punchlines. A few stories need filled out and finished off, though. It would have been good to learn more about that distressing lads' holiday to Magaluf, for example. The individuality of much of Ayo's material is genuinely exciting. Many of his friends have recently become pet or baby parents. His take on trying to bringing them up to speed on his dating exploits adds some superb physicality to proceedings. This Leith local's come a long way in a short space of time. His first steps in stand-up were in 2023. Last year, he came third in Gilded Balloon's comedy competition, So You Think You're Funny? This year, as recipient of Brass Tacks Debut Fund, his Fringe costs for this much-anticipated first hour will be met by Red Bull UK. Here's a thing. During a show, I like to jot down my observations and comments. I do it old-school, using a pen and paper. I've noticed that the more I'm enjoying a performance, the less I tend to write. Looking back at my notes from one didn't take long. All it said on the page was, 'the real deal.' Here's another fact I learnt at the gig. Scottish comedy has a new rising star. Ayo Adenekan is appearing at The Monkey Barrel July 30-August 24.

How to wear red this summer including £17 M&S alternative to designer T-shirt

Make a statement by wearing accessories in this summer's hottest shade on the high street, from brands such as Marks & Spencer, New Look and Oliver Bonas Red is one of fashion's hottest hues for summer 2025, but if you're not used to wearing such a bold colour, it can be a little daunting. If you're unsure, our top tip is to start by just adding a small flash of the colour into your outfit, rather than go full-on head-to-toe whether that be with a T-shirt, a pair of earrings or a lipstick (red pairs brilliantly with white, cream and tan other items of clothing). To help to give you some summer inspo, we've rounded up some of our favourite red items and accessories for the season... Best red fashion accessories for 2025 M&S Pure Cotton Textured Regular Fit T-Shirt £17.50 from Marks & Spencer We couldn't help but notice how similar to certain designer brands this simple M&S T-shirt looks – something that M&S shoppers were quick to point out too, with one person commenting, "Showed this to a few friends when it first dropped and we all agreed it's very similar so a high priced brand called Sporty & Rich but a fraction of the cost," going on to add that "overall it's a great value T-shirt that looks well above its price point". Pair with white jeans of shorts for the perfect weekend look. New Look Red Jersey Gingham Checked Shirred Tiered Peplum Top £19.99 from New Look For something a touch smarter, this cute ruched gingham top is the perfect solution to a 'jeans and a nice top' outfit dilemma. New Look shoppers are calling it a "lovely top that looks great on and fits perfect" and praising its "great quality" and "perfect fit". Nobody's Child Kandy Shorts £45 from Anthropologie Boxer shorts are a big fashion trend this summer, and these 100% cotton shorts are a great way to wear the style, looking equally as good in the street as on the beach. Pair with a simple oversized tee or, when the temperature starts dropping, a statement sweatshirt. Next Red Sequin Mini Skirt £45 from Next After a way to wear red when going out in the evening instead? We love this sequinned mini skirt from Next, with the sequins arranged in intricate flower patterns. It'll look equally as good glammed up to the max with heels and a strappy top as dressed down with a T-shirt and smart trainers. Abbott Lyon Entwine Custom Heart Necklace £89 from Abbott Lyon Want to wear just a drop of red instead? Give a nod to the trend with your jewellery instead, like this timeless heart-shaped pendant. Available in gold or silver and it can be personalised with the birthstone of your choice (red is for January), and initials can be engraved on the back too if you so wish. Oliver Bones Seb Red Lobster Charm Drop Earrings £14 from Oliver Bonas For something a little more fun and funky, add these lobster-shaped earrings to your outfit. Featuring a crystal stud plus red gems on the body, they're small enough to not overtake your outfit, yet interesting enough to make people look twice. Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Tangerine Currently £19.20 from Sephora (usual price £32) If you don't want to add red to your wardrobe, how about trying it in your make-up bag instead? Perfect for anyone scared of bold red lipstick, this tinted balm instead gives a sheer, plumping wash of red-orange colour. Jo Malone London Red Hibiscus Cologne Intense £116 from Lookfantastic Finish off with a spritz of this gorgeous scent from Jo Malone, which is a favourite with our beauty editor Laura. "Inspired by 'a rare and vivid flower in a tropical forest', the key notes in this scent are mandarin, red hibiscus and vanilla. For me, it's far less floral than its name suggest, with the vanilla coming through far stronger to create a warm, summery, almost sun cream-like scent, with very subtle hints of florals and citrus," she says. "I'd place it firmly into the 'solar scent' category that's popular at the moment – and I haven't stopped reaching for it this summer."
