CAF02-03-2025
Namibia have included several fresh faces in a 30-man squad for this month's FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Malawi and Equatorial Guinea as they seek to keep up their bid to qualify for the 2026 finals.
Coach Collin Benjamin picked 14 foreign-based players and 16 from the Namibian league for the home game, including the uncapped Petrus Kamati and Penda Mongudhi from league leaders Young African and Mighty Gunners' defenders Sergio Damaseb and Sisqo Haraseb.
But Benjamin will again look to his regulars to keep up their chances as they sit second in Group H on eight points, trailing leaders Tunisia by two points.
The foreign-based players are led by Mamelodi Sundowns' striker Peter Shalulile and veteran left winger Deon Hotto of Orlando Pirates.

BC Place announced as official venue for the inaugural Canada Super 60 - Middle East Business News and Information

In a landmark development for cricket in North America, the newly launched Canada Super 60 has announced Vancouver's BC Place as the official venue for its inaugural men's and women's tournaments. The move marks a historic moment for the sport in Canada, with the iconic stadium set to become the first indoor venue globally to host a 10-over-a-side cricket league. BC Place, a Canadian sporting landmark located in downtown Vancouver, has long been a stage for world-class events — from the 2010 Winter Olympics to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015, and most recently, one of the host venues for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure, retractable roof, and seating capacity of over 50,000, the stadium is now preparing to add cricket to its multi-sport repertoire. 'BC Place is not just a stadium; it's a theatre of dreams,' said former India international and Canada Super 60's strategic partner Yuvraj Singh. 'The grandeur of this venue will inspire players and fans alike. Vancouver's spirit of diversity, nature, and culture makes it the perfect backdrop for cricket's next big chapter on the West Coast.' Set to launch in 2025, the Canada Super 60 is a pioneering cricket league featuring both men's and women's teams in a 10-over format — a first-of-its-kind initiative aiming to elevate the profile of Canadian cricket on the world stage. The league is being organized with the backing of Cricket Canada. Amjad Bajwa, President of Cricket Canada, called the partnership with BC Place a 'bold and proud step' in the growth of the sport. 'This is a significant milestone not just for the Canada Super 60, but for cricket in the country. We're committed to creating world-class opportunities for Canadian talent as we gear up for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026.' Chris May, General Manager of BC Place, echoed the sentiment. 'Hosting Canada Super 60 allows us to bring the world's second most-watched sport into our venue and celebrate the diversity of British Columbia in a powerful new way. It's a unique opportunity to build a more inclusive sporting culture.' The official match dates and ticketing details are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Organizers promise an electrifying blend of cricketing action and cultural celebration — with Vancouver's passionate sports community playing a central role in the spectacle.

McCarthy rings changes as Kenya fine-tunes CHAN 2024 squad ahead of DR Congo opener

Published: Monday, 28 July 2025 Kenya head coach Bennie McCarthy has made late adjustments to his Harambee Stars squad just days before the country kicks off its maiden campaign at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. With concerns over player fitness and a desire to bolster depth in key areas, McCarthy has called up defensive midfielder Chris Erambo of Tusker FC, forward Brian Michira from Shabana FC, and reinstated Edward Omondi of Sofapaka FC, who was part of the earlier provisional squad. The changes come as attacking midfielder and fan favourite Mohamed Bejaber remains a major doubt for the tournament due to a thigh injury. Fellow players Brian Musa and Marvin Nabwire are also nursing knocks, casting doubt over their availability for the opening fixture. Kenya, making its first-ever appearance in the CHAN tournament, will face a stern test in their Group A opener against DR Congo this Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. DR Congo, two-time CHAN champions, will pose a formidable challenge for the hosts. Despite the injury concerns, spirits remain high in the Harambee Stars camp, buoyed by strong fan interest. Tickets for the opening fixture are already selling out fast, reflecting Kenya's renewed passion for international football. Remarkably, this will be only Kenya's second international match in four years, following a lengthy suspension from international football. Their return in March, when they hosted Gabon in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, drew a large and enthusiastic crowd at Nyayo, underlining the appetite for top-tier football in the country. As co-hosts of CHAN 2024, alongside East African neighbours Uganda and Tanzania, Kenya qualified automatically for the tournament. The team will be eager to make a strong impression on home soil, with coach McCarthy tasked with not only shaping a competitive squad but also reigniting the pride of a nation in transition. With group fixtures against Angola, Morocco, and DR Congo, the Harambee Stars face a steep mountain—but one they're determined to climb with courage, discipline, and the roar of the home crowd behind them.

Lepasa grateful for TotalEnergies CAF CHAN lifeline

For Zakhele Lepasa, football has come full circle in a way he likely never imagined. The 27-year-old forward, recently listed as unattached after parting ways with Orlando Pirates, has been handed a lifeline in the form of a TotalEnergies CAF CHAN national team call-up. Included in coach Molefi Ntseki's 23-man squad announced by Bafana Bafana's local-based setup, Lepasa finds himself at a pivotal point in his career. 'You know what's crazy about CHAN? A lot of us players, when we play and we are regulars in our team, we tend to take CHAN and an opportunity like that for granted,' Lepasa said honestly. 'Until a situation like this comes, where you haven't played for a while, and you understand how important it is.' The former Pirates striker, who didn't travel with the Soweto giants to Spain for pre-season and whose status was publicly noted as unattached when the CHAN squad was confirmed, is using this opportunity as a chance to reignite his career and reset mentally. 'Now it is as important as going to play in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, or go play in AFCON,' he added. 'So I'm yet to think about it to be honest, but I'm definitely happy. But for me it's not just about being happy, it's about seeing myself playing again, training well and playing again, and feel like myself again. So that's one thing I'm looking forward to.' Lepasa's return to the national setup arrives during a transitional phase, not just in his club career but in South African football as a whole. His comments shine a light on the deeper value of CHAN. His candour underscores how quickly things can shift in football. Once a consistent name on the Bucs' team sheet and a scorer in key fixtures, he now finds himself in the fight to rediscover rhythm, confidence, and relevance. While Lepasa's future at club level remains uncertain, his inclusion in the CHAN squad could serve as a crucial launchpad, not just to get minutes in the tank, but to remind South Africa, and perhaps the world, of the quality he still possesses.
