Ram Kapoor REACTS To His Comment On Smriti Irani's Weight: ‘She Knows What I Meant'
Ram Kapoor's recent remark about his Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi co-star Smriti Irani did not go down well with a section of netizens. In a conversation with Humans Of Bombay, he praised Smriti for achieving greater success than him despite her weight. However, many netizens perceived his remarks as backhanded compliments laced with body-shaming, and he was trolled for calling her 'huge'. Ram Kapoor has now reacted to the backlash, stating that Smriti Irani knows exactly what he meant to say, and that the trolls do not matter to him.
While speaking with FilmiBeat, Ram Kapoor reacted to the criticism he faced for his remark about Smriti Irani. He said, 'Smriti knows what I meant, and I know what I meant. The other people don't matter to her, or me. Understand that. When you are saying something with a clean heart, and you have a reason behind it and you are saying something positive about the person who you have regard for. As long as that person doesn't misunderstand you, nobody else should matter. Nobody."
Ram Kapoor Slams Trolls
He further slammed trolls and said, 'All these people who latch on and comment should never ever be taken seriously. Because all they do is comment about other people's lives, instead of living their own life. You cannot be a bigger loser than that. You have one shot live to live in. In your watch, it's not the seconds that are ticking by. It's your life that is going by. And during that period, instead of living their life, they only comment on other people's life. You really want to take their comment seriously? Then go get yourself checked for mental retardation."
He said that only the opinions of your loved ones—family and close friends—should matter. 'All these others, you are only wasting time of your life if you are even reading what they say. Because they are not confident enough to go live or make their own lives. They only want to say bad things about other people's lives," he said.
He further explained that when a journalist makes a comment, it is different- because it's a professional making a comment. However, he said that he doesn't feel the need to respond to 'random people' online making comments.
What Did Ram Kapoor Say About Smriti Irani?
In his interview with Humans Of Bombay, Ram Kapoor said that in today's world, success often comes with an unspoken demand to look a certain way, and highlighted that it is tough for overweight actors to break through. He then brought up Smriti Irani, and said, 'She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me. It is just that she left earlier."
He said, 'When she started Kyunki Saas and when she ended, she was huge. Her logic was now I have played a character who has taken so many leaps. 'Now I am playing a grandmother.' So you see her in the first year of Kyunki to last year, you will notice that she is as big as I am. We were equally successful."
He added, 'I have even spoken to her about this. She was just staying true to her character. When she entered the series, she played just a wife, then she became a mother, then the show took several leaps in eight years of its run. She allowed herself to become bigger. If she would have continued in television, she would have probably much bigger than me. She left because she joined politics and she is doing great."

Mentioning Smriti Irani, he said, "She was my size as a woman and probably more successful than me. It's just that she left earlier and that was Smriti Irani. When she started Kyunki Saas (bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) to when she ended, she was huge. See the first year of Kyunki and the last year of Kyunki, she's as big as I am. But equally successful." Ram then implied that while it will be difficult for more men to achieve success with the weight, women like Smriti have. "It will be difficult for another guy to do it, I agree. But Smriti did it; she did it with all that weight," he added. Did he just say that success is directly proportional to the LITERAL SIZE of a human being? Has he lost it or has this been taken out of context? I mean, wtf?" Another added, "I've literally never seen a single overweight female in a romantic drama on ITV, unless the whole show is abt her weight. But he kept on getting cast as a lead in romantic dramas, where his weight was never the topic of conversation, so wtf is he cribbing abt? Even Smriti was very thin when the show started." Another justified Smriti's success and weight gain, writing, "She legit acted in her pregnancies. And her "size" which, no offence, she looked absolutely beautiful in all her sizes on the show, actually suited the character due to the character having multiple children then going on to have grandchildren etc." On Reddit, one person referred to Ram's recent controversial statements and wondered, "Ram Kapoor wants to be cancelled so bad."
