‘I'd Call the Police:' Woman Stops at Stoplight. Then She Notices Something Unusual About the BMW Trunk in Front of Her

A driver's morbid curiosity was triggered by the sight of an external latch affixed to the trunk of a car. In front of him, was a what appeared to be BMW 3 Series. The driver, who posts under the handle @blueb3rrysony, uploaded footage of the vehicle. Some thought there was a mundane explanation as to why the car was outfitted with such a setup. Others were alarmed. Theories ranged from human trafficking to the driver being rear-ended and not having the time or money to fix the damage. The video begins with a recording of a black sedan sitting in traffic at a red light. She zooms in to reveal a metal latch screwed to the car's trunk. A small, copper-tinted padlock is looped through the latch, making the setup look like something out of a horror movie. 'Saw this trunk locked and I just couldn't help but wonder why,' @blueb3rrysony writes in a text overlay of her clip. Her post has 446,000 views as of this writing. A DIY Fix or a Nefarious Plot? Plenty of people who saw the post surmised that it was simply a quick fix for a busted lock. 'They might be keeping it from coming open,' one said. Another opined, 'Kidnappers probably wouldn't put [a] suspicious lock on a container that already has an inconspicuous lock. Their trunk's latch is probably just busted.' Someone else noticed a key detail about the car: a missing back bumper. 'Guessing on how the rear bumper is missing it got into an accident. So the latch doesn't align with the lock so they added that to lock it,' they wrote. At least one person was concerned. 'I'd call the police,' they wrote. One of the people who replied to @blueb3rrysony's video speculated the jerry-rigged latch had more to do with finances than kidnapping. 'Not everyone can afford to replace the actual car trunk lock…sometimes people need to improvise not everyone has money,' they said. Six sports cars busted for racing at speeds faster than 100 mph in San Francisco: CHP

(KRON) — The drivers of six different sports cars were busted for racing at speeds faster than 100 mph along San Francisco freeways July 13, according to the California Highway Patrol. Drivers in a Ford Mustang, Toyota Supra and four BMW sedans were first seen driving recklessly on the northbound side of Interstate 280 near Geneva Avenue, according to CHP. '[The cars] were reported to be traveling over 100 mph and weaving in and out of traffic,' CHP said. More than 1,600 pictures of child pornography found at Bay Area man's home: PD The cars continued onto the northbound side of Highway 101 when CHP officers spotted them. The officers pulled two of the cars over as they switched from Highway 101 to eastbound Interstate 80 toward the Bay Bridge. 'The Ford Mustang and a BMW M4 were observed by [officers], who respectively initiated enforcement stops on those two vehicles,' CHP said. 'The Toyota Supra and the three additional BMW sedans continued onto the [Bay Bridge].' Two more CHP officers tracked down the remaining four cars and stopped them on Treasure Island. All six drivers were ticketed for traffic violations, including unsafe speeds and mechanical violations. One of the BMWs also had expired registration and the car was towed from the scene. Supervisor says trash strike has ended after leaving garbage piled across Bay Area CHP called the ordeal 'a prime example of improper driving behavior and what not to do on our public roadways.' 'We are all for going out and enjoying a Sunday drive with friends,' CHP said. 'However, everyone has to drive in a responsible and safe manner. The posted speed limits are not suggestions and are set to help ensure optimal safety to all motorists, while also minimizing potential injuries to every man, woman, and children traversing that particular roadway in the event of a traffic crash.' Police dog behind £250,000 criminal cash haul dies after collision

A police dog who once sniffed out £250,000 in criminal cash and took part in Queen Elizabeth II's funeral has died after a crash. PD Bert, a five-year-old springer spaniel with Cleveland Police, was in a dog support unit vehicle with an officer and another dog when it collided with a BMW in Hartlepool at about 9pm on Thursday. Both dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic, where one was found to be uninjured. Because of the severity of his injuries, PD Bert was put to sleep. The officer suffered minor injuries. A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and later charged with drink driving. He has been bailed to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on August 1. PD Bert had served with the force for three and a half years, using his skills to detect drugs, firearms and large sums of money. He was praised for locating £250,000 during a single search and had been deployed to London as part of the policing operation during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
