6 dangerous animals commonly spotted in India's National Parks
Over the past few years, national parks across India have seen a steady rise in footfall. From Ranthambore to Kaziranga, safari bookings are growing, and interest in nature-based travel is clearly on the rise.
For many, these trips are a way to disconnect from the city, get closer to nature, and maybe even spot a tiger in the wild.
But while these parks are designed to protect wildlife, they're not amusement parks. Visitors often forget that they're stepping into raw, untamed territory, which is home to animals that aren't just wild, but sometimes unpredictable. Some encounters can turn risky if not handled responsibly.
This article looks at six such species that demand caution, not fear, but awareness.
They form a crucial part of India's natural landscape, but they also deserve distance, respect, and understanding.
Bengal Tiger
Where you might spot them:
Jim Corbett, Kanha, Tadoba, Sundarbans
Tigers are apex predators, but they're also known for avoiding humans unless threatened or startled. The real danger lies in accidental run-ins, like walking into their territory unknowingly or getting too close during a sighting. A cornered or protective tiger will act on instinct.

Keep in mind:
Remain inside your vehicle during all safaris. Avoid calling out or making loud noises, even in excitement. Tigers usually stay hidden unless disturbed.
Indian Elephant
Best seen in:
Kaziranga, Nagarhole, Periyar
Elephants are deeply social and emotionally intelligent. They're often calm and even tolerant of human presence, but that changes quickly if they feel their young are under threat or if they're in musth (a hormonal phase in males marked by heightened aggression).
Unlike big cats, elephants are more visible, but that doesn't make them less dangerous.
What helps:
Always give them space, especially if you see a calf nearby. Never try to overtake or approach an elephant, even from a distance.
Indian Leopard
Frequently spotted in:
Jhalana, Bandhavgarh, Sanjay-Dubri
Leopards are far more adaptable than tigers and are known to live even on the edges of cities. In the wild, they prefer to stay hidden and avoid attention.
But if surprised, especially near their den or with prey, they can react with alarming speed and force.
Stay safe by: Not walking on foot in forested areas, particularly near thick cover. Listen to your forest guide and avoid moving away from your group.
Sloth Bear
You'll find them in:
Satpura, Pench, and parts of Central India
Sloth bears don't get as much attention as tigers or elephants, but they are among the top contributors to human-wildlife conflict in several Indian states.
Their eyesight is poor, and they're known to charge if they sense sudden movement nearby, especially while feeding or with cubs.
Basic rule:
Avoid going near bushes or termite mounds where bears might be looking for food. Stay alert during early mornings and late evenings, as that's when bears are most active.
Indian Cobra (and other venomous snakes)
Found in:
Almost all national parks across India, especially during summer and monsoon
India is home to several venomous snake species, including cobras, kraits, and vipers.
They don't seek confrontation, but bites can happen if they're accidentally stepped on or disturbed while resting under leaves, rocks, or near water.
Safety tip:
Wear covered shoes, avoid walking in grass or undergrowth, and always check your surroundings if you're in areas with snake presence.
Saltwater Crocodile
Spotted mostly in:
Sundarbans, Bhitarkanika, Andaman coastal areas
Saltwater crocodiles are rarely seen during the day, but that doesn't mean they're not close.
These predators are excellent at camouflaging themselves in muddy waters and riverbanks, striking only when they're absolutely sure. That one strike is often fatal for animals or humans.
Your safety net: Avoid going too close to riverbanks or dipping your feet in water, no matter how calm it looks. Always follow local alerts in crocodile zones.
When's the right time to visit?
Most national parks are open from October to June, but for better wildlife visibility, the dry season (March to early June) is ideal.
Water sources are fewer, so animals tend to gather around known watering points, making sightings more likely and more predictable for guides.
Quick ground rules for visitors
Stick to safari tracks. They're marked for a reason.
Don't step out of the vehicle. Even if the view seems safe.
Lower your voice. Wild animals are quick to pick up unfamiliar sounds.
Avoid bright clothing or strong fragrances. They draw attention.
Never attempt selfies with wildlife. It's not just risky– it's illegal in some parks.

5 things Indians always ask before booking a cruise; and what they should really be asking
India's appetite for travel has grown exponentially, and cruising — once seen as a niche luxury — is slowly gaining ground. Yet, for many Indian travelers, the idea of setting sail still comes with a lot of hesitation. After speaking with hundreds of potential cruisers, we've identified the most frequently asked questions — and what savvy travelers should be asking instead. Will I get Indian food or vegetarian meals on the cruise? What they should be asking : What kind of culinary experiences does the cruise offer — and how can I explore global cuisines while still getting my comfort food? Yes, most modern cruise liners catering to Indian audiences have already solved this concern. From Jain meals to masala chai, you'll find an Indian touch onboard. But what's even more exciting is the opportunity to explore global cuisine — fresh Mediterranean fare, sizzling Teppanyaki, classic Italian, and even live sushi counters. It's a gourmet world tour at sea. So while the dal-chawal is available, it's also a chance to explore and experiment. Isn't cruising meant for old people? What they should be asking : What kind of onboard experiences cater to different age groups — especially for families and younger travelers? This myth needs to retire. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Today's cruises are designed like floating cities — with everything from Broadway-style shows and water parks to skydiving simulators, adventure sports zones, comedy clubs, fitness boot camps, and curated kids' zones. Whether you're 8 or 80, there's entertainment tailored for you. Some cruises even have Instagrammable wellness retreats and nightlife rivaling that of top metros. How much does a cruise cost? Isn't it a luxury? What they should be asking : What's included in the cruise fare — and how does the value compare to a land-based holiday? Cruising sounds fancy — but many are surprised to learn how inclusive the experience is. Your fare typically covers accommodation, all meals, entertainment, pools, kids' activities, and multiple destinations (without the need to constantly unpack!). When compared with flights + hotels + meals + sightseeing, a cruise can actually be more cost-effective — especially for group or family travel. What do I do in the middle of the sea? Won't it be boring? What they should be asking : What kind of shore excursions and onboard itineraries are available — and how do I personalise my experience? Modern cruise ships are destinations in themselves. From sunrise yoga by the deck to wine tasting at noon, an art auction in the afternoon, a quick zipline ride post-lunch, and live theatre by night — there's no room for boredom. Add to that curated shore excursions (think snorkeling in the Andamans, exploring Greek ruins, or shopping in Singapore) and your itinerary will be packed with experiences you'll remember forever. Will I get seasick? What they should be asking : What measures do cruise ships take to ensure a comfortable voyage — and what should I know as a first-time cruiser? Today's cruise liners are engineering marvels — equipped with stabilisers and medical staff onboard. Routes are planned for calm seas, and most first-timers find they don't even notice the movement. But yes, motion sickness patches and a quick chat with the onboard doctor can ease any worries. A balcony room and spending time outdoors also help. Cruising is not just a way to travel — it's a way to slow down, reconnect with loved ones, and explore the world in a new light. Instead of focusing on outdated assumptions, Indian travelers should embrace the opportunities cruises offer — comfort, value, diversity, and adventure. The sea is calling — and it's anything but boring. (By: Shiju Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO,

Man claims IndiGo cancelled flight post-boarding, left 180 passengers stranded
An Indian-origin passenger based in Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), called out IndiGo Airlines after a distressing flight a now-viral post on LinkedIn, Vinay Mall detailed how his IndiGo flight 6E 1424 from Sharjah to Lucknow on June 23 was cancelled after boarding, leaving over 180 passengers, including children and elderly individuals, stranded at the airport for more than nine hours without Cancelled After Boarding - A Shocking Experience with IndiGo Airlines (6E 1424, SHJ-LKO, 23 June),' the post read. Vinay said, 'On June 23, I boarded an IndiGo flight 6E 1424 from Sharjah to Lucknow, along with \~180 other passengers. What followed was deeply disappointing and raised serious concerns about passenger rights, airline accountability, and safety protocols.'Vinay alleged that after passengers had boarded and remained seated for nearly an hour, the pilot suddenly announced that the flight was cancelled due to crew duty hours exceeding limits.'There was no clarity, no guidance – just an announcement, and then nothing,' he further added, 'The air hostess calmly asked everyone to deboard 'one by one', after which the entire crew formed a queue and walked out, leaving passengers clueless inside the terminal. These are the professionals we are told to trust during emergencies?'advertisementAccording to Vinay, there was no IndiGo staff available to help the passengers. '180+ passengers were left stranded inside the airport terminal for over 9.5 hours - from 1:55 AM to the next scheduled flight at 11:30 AM and later again delayed by 1 hour to 12:30 PM,' he said.'Families with children, elderly passengers, and women were left with no support–not even a place to rest,' he wrote. 'Parents tried to lay their children on the floor due to a lack of sleeping space, only to be told by airport security that 'sleeping on the floor is not allowed'.'He also said that passengers who made noise were selectively offered access to lounge facilities (only around 8 people out of 180). His own family, including a 2.5-year-old and an 8-year-old, received no assistance, not even water.'Others were quietly taken aside and offered comfort but not in groups, as if this was something to be hidden,' Vinay raised serious questions in his post: 'Why are flights being scheduled without aligning crew shift limits? Is it acceptable for trained crew to simply walk away while passengers, including children and the elderly, fend for themselves? Where is the passenger assistance team? The customer service? The basic human decency?'advertisement'This is not about inconvenience. This is about how passengers - human beings - were treated as cargo, without dignity or compassion.'He concluded, 'We understand operational issues. But this was a complete systems failure. Sharing this publicly not out of anger, but in hope that no other family, especially not one with small children, goes through this again.'Vinay also attached a picture of what appeared to be his son sleeping uncomfortably on a chair inside the a look at the post here:IndiGo did respond to the post in the comments section. Initially, the airline said: 'Mr Mall, we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to you and your family. Please be assured that it is always our endeavour to ensure our customers reach their destinations on time, however, your recent flight was delayed due to operational reasons. We request you to kindly allow us some time to look into the matter further. Additionally, we'd appreciate it if you could share a convenient time for us to connect with you to address this. \~Team IndiGo'Later, IndiGo added an update: 'Mr Mall, thank you for taking the time to meet our team at the airport. At IndiGo, we understand that extended wait times can be challenging, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. We would like to apprise you that the delay was due to operational reasons, and our team made every effort to assist you throughout. Refreshments were also provided to ease the wait. We truly value your patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again for a much smoother journey. \~Team IndiGo'advertisementVinay, however, did not seem satisfied. He replied: 'Instead of offering misleading statements and excuses, it would have been more honest to admit that the so-called educated and professional team was completely unable to manage the situation. In reality, they seemed far more skilled at avoiding responsibility, hiding from passengers, and evading any meaningful interaction. The posted pictures display the gestures of assistance provided consistently throughout.'In the comments section of the post, several social media users raised concerns around airline accountability and the urgent need for better passenger support during flight disruptions.- EndsMust Watch

Why You Need Comprehensive Travel Insurance For Your European Trip
Last Updated: Kapadia from Policybazaar stresses the need for comprehensive travel insurance for Indian travelers to Europe, covering medical emergencies, strikes, etc. Authored by Meet Kapadia, Head, Travel Insurance, Policybazaar: For most Indians, a trip to Europe is a lifelong dream. Months of planning, budgeting, saving, navigating visa hurdles, and even picking the right wardrobe go into it. Often, these dreams are shaped by the movies we've grown up with—from the snow-covered Swiss Alps of DDLJ, to the romantic streets of Paris, or the scenic trails of Slovenia recently made famous by Thalapathy Vijay. With so much emotional and financial investment, it makes sense to take one more crucial step: securing comprehensive travel insurance. The Schengen visa requires a minimum of €30,000 in coverage, but that is just the baseline. A basic policy may get you the visa, but it often falls short when real-world complications hit. Opting for higher coverage offers more meaningful protection without adding a significant financial burden. Take the example of Ankit and Priya, a newlywed couple who had saved diligently for over a year to make their dream honeymoon in Italy come true. Thanks to their decision to purchase comprehensive travel insurance, they were fully reimbursed when a sudden climate event cancelled their return flight, covering new tickets and accommodation without denting their savings. They were among the growing number of Indian travelers planning ahead. In fact, 62% of travelers now opt for travel insurance with $250,000 or more in coverage, showing a clear shift toward prioritising protection over minimum compliance. If you're still wondering why higher coverage matters, here's what it protects you from: A European holiday is often the experience of a lifetime, and investing in higher coverage travel insurance helps protect that dream. For just a slightly higher premium, you gain financial security, peace of mind, and the freedom to enjoy your trip without worrying about the unexpected. With so many plans available today, it's worth spending a few minutes online to compare features and pick one that truly fits your needs, especially when the difference in cost is often marginal, but the benefits can be significant.
