Manickam Tagore, VCK question voices in Congress that reportedly called for tie-up with S Ramdoss

India Gazette04-07-2025
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 4 (ANI): Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Friday questioned some people in his party who had been speaking of a possible tie-up with Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S Ramadoss in Tamil Nadu, who has been expelled from his party by his son. There has been speculation about the PMK founder seeking a tie-up with the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, of which the Congress is a part.
Sharing an X post, Tagore said, 'How can you want a party that stood with Modi from 2014, the beginning and still shares his ideology to be your ally? Why hurt those who stood with you through thick and thin, and continue to stand by People's Leader @RahulGandhi in every battle?' Manickam Tagore wrote.
'This can't be a party decision -- it seems purely personal,' the X post read.
Meanwhile, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VMK) leader D. Ravikumar wrote an open letter to Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on X, expressing concern over the speculation of the inclusion of the PMK into the alliance.
Reiterating VCK's support to Congress, Ravikumar said that PMK's inclusion shows that the DMK-Congress alliance is not strong enough.
'Respected @kcvenugopalmp Sir, VCK has consistently demonstrated its loyalty to the INDIA bloc at both the state and national levels. We organised a massive rally in Trichy to highlight the slogan 'Save Secularism, Save Constitution.' We have stood firmly with @RahulGandhi on all occasions,' he wrote on X.
'In this context, we are concerned about the unusual interest shown by the Tamil Nadu State Congress in attempting to woo an NDA ally into the INDIA bloc. Specifically, the move to bring PMK into the alliance in Tamil Nadu creates the impression that the DMK-led alliance is not strong enough to counter the BJP alliance. May I know if this has your approval?' the X post read.
There had been no official confirmation of the Congress seeking to join hands with Ramdoss senior. However, the speculation comes at a time when the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls are scheduled in 2026. (ANI)

'My house has been bugged,' says PMK Ramadoss

CUDDALORE: PMK founder S Ramadoss on Friday alleged that a high-end surveillance device was discovered concealed near a chair at his residence, raising serious concern about eavesdropping. 'A sophisticated foreign-made bugging device was found near my chair. We are investigating who is behind this,' Ramadoss told reporters after a party meeting at Virudhachalam. Speaking at the PMK district general body meeting, Ramadoss reiterated his commitment to continue protests against NLC India Ltd. until justice is served for people who lost land and homes to the company. 'We have organised several protests, but NLC has refused to address our demands. Our agitation will continue until rightful compensation and rehabilitation are given,' he said. High Court stays defamation case against CM

The High Court has stayed the trial proceedings against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a high-profile defamation case filed by the BJP, which alleges that the Congress leader defamed the party through front-page newspaper advertisements accusing the previous BJP-led state government of large-scale corruption. A single-judge bench headed by Justice S R Krishna Kumar passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed by Siddaramaiah seeking to quash the private complaint lodged by BJP state secretary and Legislative Council member B.S. Keshav Prasad. During the hearing, Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty, appearing for the Chief Minister, argued that the trial court had already stayed proceedings against the other accused in the same case and hence the same relief should be extended to the Chief Minister as well. After considering the submissions, the bench ordered a stay on the trial pending further hearings. Advocate Surya Mukundaraj also appeared for the petitioner. The defamation case dates back to the run-up to the May 2023 Assembly elections when the Congress made corruption allegations a central theme of its campaign. On May 5, 2023, the Congress published advertisements on the front pages of major Kannada and English newspapers, branding the BJP regime as a '40% commission government.' The ads alleged that the BJP had institutionalised corruption by fixing bribes for postings and tenders, and that kickbacks of 25–30% were being taken in Covid supplies, public works, temple and mutt grants, midday meal eggs, and road projects. The ads concluded with the sensational claim that the BJP government had siphoned off ₹1.5 lakh crore over its term, urging voters to reject what the Congress labelled a 'Trouble Engine Government' — a pun on the BJP's 'Double Engine Government' pitch. Following their defeat in the polls, the BJP hit back legally, claiming the allegations were baseless and amounted to a malicious attempt to tarnish the party's image, mislead voters, and influence the election outcome. The private complaint names not only Siddaramaiah but also Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as responsible for approving and disseminating the advertisements. While the stay provides temporary relief for Siddaramaiah, the case is expected to remain a point of political friction as the BJP continues to accuse the ruling Congress of crossing ethical lines during the bitterly fought election. The matter will next come up for further hearing in the High Court.
