The R1 stands 4 feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. It includes 26 joints for multi-axis mobility and features voice and image recognition tools. Unitree states that the robot utilizes an 8-core chip with an integrated GPU. The device supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 and includes a removable battery with a runtime of around one hour.
The launch adds pressure to other companies in the humanoid robotics space, including Tesla (TSLA). Tesla has yet to ship its Optimus robot and has not confirmed a production date, although Elon Musk projects producing 100,000 robots every month by 2030. Musk has also estimated that Optimus will cost at least $20,000. That is more than three times the R1's announced price.
The R1's hardware shows a focus on motion over task performance. It does not include usable hands or physical manipulation tools. Analysts note that it is designed for testing and software development, rather than for home or factory use. Unitree has not provided a delivery timeline, but states that the robot is still in development. The company expects to use third-party dealers for global distribution.
Previous Unitree robots have carried higher price tags. The G1 humanoid started at $16,000, while the H1 model reached a price of $90,000. The company says it wants to lower cost barriers for developers and early adopters.
A Growing Industry
The humanoid robotics space has drawn rising interest from investors. Boston Dynamics, owned by Hyundai Motor Company (HYMLF), has developed its Atlas robot for research use, but its price exceeds $100,000. Other companies working in the field include Agility Robotics, Apptronik, and Sanctuary AI, all of which are focused on enterprise deployment.
The R1 launch aligns with government targets in China, where robotics is a national priority under industrial policy plans. Unitree has stated that it aims to integrate humanoid robots into homes and offices in the long term. For now, the R1 adds a new price benchmark in a market still early in commercial adoption.

Pakistan and US reach a trade agreement to develop oil reserves and reduce tariffs
ISLAMABAD — The United States and Pakistan reached a trade agreement expected to allow Washington to help develop Pakistan's largely untapped oil reserves and lower tariffs for the South Asian country, officials from both nations said Thursday. Officials did not specify where the exploration would take place, but most of Pakistan's reserves are believed to be in the insurgency-hit southwestern province of Balochistan, where separatists say the province's natural resources are being exploited by the central government in Islamabad. 'We have just concluded a deal with the country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive oil reserves,' U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. 'We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership,' Trump added. 'Who knows, maybe they'll be selling oil to India someday!' Total U.S. trade with Pakistan was an estimated $7.3 billion in 2024, according to the Office of the United States Representative, which said on its website that U.S. exports to Pakistan in 2024 were $2.1 billion, up 4.4% ($90.9 million) from 2023. U.S. imports from Pakistan totaled $5.1 billion in 2024, up 4.9% ($238.7 million) from 2023, it said. There was no immediate comment from the Baloch nationalists and separatist groups. Balochistan has long been the center of violence mostly blamed on groups including the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army, or BLA, which the U.S. designated a terrorist organization in 2019. Separatists in Balochistan have opposed the extraction of resources by Pakistani and foreign firms and have targeted Pakistani security forces and Chinese nationals working on multibillion-dollar projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Oil reserves are also thought to exist in the southern Sindh, eastern Punjab and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the 'long-awaited' deal and thanked Trump for playing a key role in finalizing it. Pakistan had been pursuing a trade agreement since May, when Trump mediated a ceasefire between Pakistan and India following an escalation triggered by Indian airstrikes on Pakistani territory in response to the killing of 26 tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Pakistan's Finance Ministry said in a statement early Thursday the agreement aims to boost bilateral trade, expand market access, attract investment and foster cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The breakthrough came during a meeting in Washington between Pakistani Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and senior U.S. officials, including Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer. The deal includes a reduction in reciprocal tariffs, particularly on Pakistani exports to the U.S., the statement from the ministry said. 'The agreement enhances Pakistan's access to the U.S. market and vice versa,' it said. The agreement is also expected to spur increased U.S. investment in Pakistan's infrastructure and development projects, it added. The ministry said the deal reflects both nations' commitment to deepening bilateral ties and strengthening trade and investment cooperation.

AM Best Affirms Credit Ratings of China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association
HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of 'a-' (Excellent) of China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association (China P&I or the Club) (China). The outlook of these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable. The ratings reflect China P&I's balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management. AM Best expects China P&I's risk-adjusted capitalisation, as measured by Best's Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), to remain at the strongest level over the short to intermediate term, supported by very low underwriting leverage and sustained capital growth through earnings retention. The Club's consolidated capital and surplus increased moderately in 2024, driven by positive operating results and profit retention. China P&I continues to hold its long-term equity investments in China Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd. (CMBC), which represents approximately 70% of total invested assets. This investment concentration risk remains an offsetting factor to China P&I's balance sheet strength, alongside the higher-than-average investment allocation to equities and sizeable gross losses of protection and indemnity (P&I) insurance that the Club is potentially exposed to. Conversely, supportive factors in AM Best's balance sheet strength assessment include the Club's prudent reserving practices in view of the long-tail nature of P&I insurance and its comprehensive reinsurance programme. China P&I achieved stable operating results in 2024, mainly driven by favourable investment returns and moderate underwriting losses at a controllable level. The Club has consistently recorded net profit over the last five years. Based on AM Best's calculations, the Club's five-year average return-on-equity ratio was 4.4% (2020-2024). The Club's underwriting profitability was modestly impacted by rising losses incurred in a less benign year of claims, albeit partially offset by improvement in operating expenses. The Club continued to report stable investment returns in 2024, with a net investment yield (including capital gains or losses) of 5.0%, owing to a consistent track record of dividends and growth in the CMBC investment's book value. Established in 1984, as a mutual association, the Club has become a leading player in China's P&I market and is one of the major hull insurance providers in the country. The Club's underwriting portfolio has remained stable with a focus on the domestic market of ocean-going vessels owned by Chinese shipowners. China P&I continues to explore opportunities in overseas markets, such as Southeast Asia to diversify its member base. In addition, the Club continues to leverage its long-term business partnerships with several international groups of P&I clubs in areas such as reinsurance support, loss prevention, claims services, product development, sharing local knowledge and professional network. Negative rating actions may occur if China P&I's balance sheet strength no longer supports the current assessment, for example, due to material deterioration in the level of risk-adjusted capitalisation arising from heightened investment risks. Negative rating actions also may arise if China P&I's operating performance demonstrates a persistent deteriorating trend, for example, due to sustained and material investment losses, which significantly weigh down the Club's profitability or erode its capital position. Positive rating actions may occur if the Club achieves material and sustained enhancement in its global market presence over the intermediate term, while continuing to strengthen its leadership position in the domestic market. Ratings are communicated to rated entities prior to publication. Unless stated otherwise, the ratings were not amended subsequent to that communication. BMW leaves Tesla in the dust with next-gen EV boasting unbelievable range — here's when it will hit the roads
BMW is making major moves with its Neue Klasse line of electric vehicles. Now, the renowned German brand is taking specific aim at the Tesla Model 3 with an exciting model release. Interesting Engineering reported on the 2027 i3, which will be offered in at least six different versions, or trims. The publication noted that the model is undergoing a major facelift from a "quirky carbon-fiber hatchback" to a legitimate competitor in the premium EV sedan space. The top-performance trim, the i3 M60 xDrive, is rumored to have eye-popping features, including its ability to generate 630 horsepower. That would surpass the Model 3's performance of 510 horsepower, and surely allow the model to challenge Tesla's 2.9-second 0 to 60 mph speed. Another feature worth mentioning is range, where versions like the i3 40 and i3 50 could outcompete Tesla's long-range Model 3 offerings. Sources told Interesting Engineering that the i3 50 could hit a remarkable 560 miles on one charge, which would best the Tesla Model 3 Long Range by 200 miles. The positive comparisons carry over to BMW's charging speed. The i3 is set to charge up to 217 miles in 10 minutes using 300-400 kilowatt fast charging powered by its sixth-generation battery technology. That easily bests Tesla's 250 kW top charging speed and capabilities of 175 miles in 15 minutes. BMW also recently confirmed that the Neue Klasse models will have the North American Charging Standard port, per BMW Blog. That makes them compatible with Superchargers, undercutting a major selling point Tesla once had of drivers being able to charge in the vast Supercharger network. The i3's lofty offering is an exciting development for current EV drivers and those considering making their next car an EV. EVs offer drivers industry-low maintenance costs, a reduction in tailpipe pollution, a quieter ride, and substantial fuel savings. The overall move to EVs from gas-powered cars is better for the planet, too, even as aspects of EVs, such as battery mining, make it an imperfect technology. One way consumers can maximize their EVs is by generating their own clean energy through installing solar panels instead of relying on the grid or public charging stations. EnergySage can make the process easy and help homeowners save up to $10,000 by gathering quotes from vetted installers. For those counting down the days until the i3 hits the roads, an early 2027 release looks likely with production ramping up in July 2026. Does driving range play into your decision to buy an EV?
