Gold prices hold ground in Baghdad, decline in Erbil
According to a Shafaq News survey, Baghdad's al-Nahr Street wholesale markets recorded a price per mithqal (4.25 grams) for 21-carat Gulf, Turkish, or European gold stood of 666,000 IQD for selling and 662,000 IQD for purchasing.
Iraqi-made 21-carat gold was sold for 636,000 IQD and purchased at 632,000 IQD.
In jewelry shops, 21-carat Gulf gold selling prices ranged between 665,000 and 675,000 IQD per mithqal, while Iraqi gold ranged between 635,000 to 645,000 IQD.
In Erbil, 24-carat gold was sold at 765,000 IQD, 22-carat at 700,000 IQD, 21-carat at 670,000 IQD, and 18-carat at 575,000 IQD.

Iraq studies green hydrogen, low-emissions cement initiatives
Baghdad ( – Iraq has launched a study that will examine the feasibility of green hydrogen generation as part of its clean energy policy. According to the state-run news agency (INA), the Ministry of Industry and Minerals is conducting the research in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Oil, as well as the National Investment Commission (NIC), with the participation of the private sector in the initiative. The Iraqi government is also studying approaches to build low-emission cement-producing plants. These efforts are part of Iraq's national energy strategy, which aims to reduce emissions by improving the utilization of energy and expanding the use of renewable sources, notably solar energy, in industrial operations. The ministry stated that its affiliated firms are prepared to develop solar power projects, with the government's goal of generating 12,000 megawatts of electricity from solar energy by 2030, as indicated in the statement. The Iraqi government is establishing a solar power plant in the central desert area as part of attempts to alleviate persistent electricity shortages caused by declining gas supplies from neighboring Iran. The new solar power plant will generate 300 megawatts of electricity using 500,000 solar panels, 39,000 of which have already been installed.

Govt Denies Destruction of 62 Trillion Iraqi Dinar

The Financial Adviser to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Dr. Mudhhir Mohammed Saleh, has firmly denied social media rumours claiming the destruction of half of Iraq's currency supply - approximately 62 trillion dinars [$47 billion] - as " economically absurd and completely unfounded ". In remarks to the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) , Saleh clarified that Iraq's total issued monetary mass does not exceed 100 trillion dinars, including both circulating and reserve cash. The notion that more than half of this amount could be destroyed by environmental or biological factors - as claimed in rumours citing " rats and mice " - is " impossible and institutionally unthinkable ". He explained that about 88 percent of Iraq's money supply is held outside the banking system, largely by individuals due to longstanding cultural habits, not stored in a single location that could suffer such widespread damage. Saleh stressed that Iraq's currency management is governed by strict procedures covering printing, storage, inspection, and replacement. " Such a massive loss could not occur without detection, " he said, denouncing the rumours as a deliberate attempt to stir public anxiety. He urged citizens to avoid spreading fabricated news that undermines public trust, especially during a period requiring national cohesion and confidence in the country's financial institutions. Energy at full speed: Development Road redraws Iraq-Turkiye ties
Shafaq News – Ankara/Baghdad Iraq and Turkiye are set to expand cooperation through the Development Road Project, which has evolved into a platform for a broader energy partnership, according to regional analysts. Spanning 1,200 kilometers and linking the Gulf to Europe via Iraqi and Turkish territory, the project has 'significantly strengthened' bilateral energy ties, Sercan Caliskan, a researcher at the Middle East Research Center (ORSAM) told Anadolu. 'The Development Road has opened the door to future-focused cooperation, steering relations toward a long-term strategic framework,' Caliskan said, noting that the success of this effort depends on sustained, high-level diplomacy. Energy analyst Yesar Al-Maleki of the Middle East Economic Survey (MEES) pointed out that the Iraq–Turkiye Ceyhan pipeline in Kirkuk could be used to transport crude from additional producers, reinforcing Turkiye's position as a regional transit hub. 'It also enables Ankara to integrate oil extracted through hydraulic fracturing in southeastern Turkiye, in cooperation with US companies.' Natural gas collaboration is also gaining momentum, he added. Imports from Turkiye could help Iraq reduce its reliance on frequently disrupted Iranian gas supplies. In the longer term, rising domestic output may allow Baghdad to export gas to Europe. Al-Maleki also noted that Turkiye would benefit from broader gas transit capabilities, channeling supplies from Russia, Azerbaijan, and other sources into Iraq—further cementing its role as a regional energy hub. Meanwhile, talks are already underway to replace the 1973 oil transit agreement, which expires in July 2026. Turkish officials have signaled that a more comprehensive accord is being considered, aligned with the broader objectives of the Development Road framework.
