Illegal B'deshis skipping usual entry points, learning Hindi first: Cops
Mumbai: Many Bangladeshi nationals illegally entering India are bypassing traditional illegal routes through West Bengal's Kalyani, Howrah and Kolkata due to increased border patrolling and are instead opting for roads to Guwahati, shows MIDC police's probe.
Upon arrival, they allegedly stay confined to homes for some time to learn Hindi and scrub out all markers of identity from their speech to avoid detection when stepping out to look for jobs.
MIDC police, who arrested seven illegal Bangladeshis in Mumbai and Pune last week, have found that agents in West Bengal are charging Rs 50,000-1 lakh each for forged Aadhaar and PAN cards to allow such immigrants to settle in different parts of the country.
Of the seven who were arrested, five—all women—were sent to Pune immediately upon arrival in India and confined to a rental home. There, a police officer said, they underwent training in Hindi. The women worked as domestic help and at salons. Police caught them on June 26 and plan to take legal proceedings against the flat owner.

MIDC police's action began with the arrest of Bayajid Shaikh (24) on June 24. Shaikh, a Bangladeshi, entered India through Guwahati and stayed in Palghar while being employed in Andheri for the past year.
Authorities learnt that he brought at least six women from Bangladesh, employing them in Mumbai and Pune.
Based on information from Shaikh, DCP (zone 10) Datta Nalawade led a team, including ACP Shashikant Bhosale, MIDC police inspector Sanjay Chavan, assistant inspector Yash Palwe, and SIs Mahadev Jagtap and Dhanshree Dembare, that nabbed two persons in Andheri and then the five women in Pune.
The police investigation began after a govt resolution was issued on June 23, which held owners of establishments accountable if they employ illegal Bangladeshi migrants, effectively making them responsible for providing shelter to such individuals. It said govt will amend the laws, if needed, to initiate action against offenders. Govt will also implement an online system for document verification, according to the home department's directive.

UP: Sandalwood tree worth lakhs stolen from KGMU Vice-Chancellor's official residence in Lucknow
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): A sandalwood tree worth lakhs of rupees was stolen from the official residence of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) Vice-Chancellor in Lucknow, despite security arrangements in place. KGMU spokesperson KK Singh said the 50-year-old tree was cut down and taken away by thieves. The residence, located within the campus, is currently unoccupied. An FIR has been lodged, and CCTV footage has been handed over to the police. The incident is also being investigated under the Forest Act. So, the campus house is vacant, though guards and basic staff stay there. A few days ago, we found out that a very old sandalwood tree at the residence was cut down, and the wood was stolen. It's shocking because the building is considered secure and has guards. We have collected CCTV footage and handed it over to the police. The tree was about 50 years old and worth lakhs. We've also informed the Forest Department, as sandalwood trees are protected under the Forest Act. We were told that this type of wood cannot be sold legally, and its value is set by the government.' Meanwhile, in a separate incident, one person who was accused of a robbery case worth Rs 1.5 crore was injured in an encounter with the police in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar, as per the information by Ghaziabad ACP Bhaskar Verma. The incident was reported from the intervening night of June 29 and 30, when, during a check at the Diamond Tiraha, the police monitored a four-wheeler approaching suspiciously towards them. While the police were trying to stop the car, it collided with a tree. The accused tried to flee from the incident spot and started firing at the police officials. However, in self-defence firing from the police officials, the accused got injured. (ANI)

Sangareddy (Telangana) [India], July 1 (ANI): Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has expressed grief over the tragic fire accident that occurred at the Pashamylaram industrial area in Sangareddy district that killed 12 people. The Governor paid condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Governor spoke to the Labour, Employment Training and Factories (LETF) Principal Secretary Kishore, and directed him to extend all possible assistance and the best of medical help to the victims. Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday expressed grief over the fire accident at the Sigachi Pharma chemical factory. 'Deeply saddened by the tragic fire accident at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana, which claimed several lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,' Murmu said in a post on X. 8 held for securing bail using fake papers in Sangrur, say cops
The Sangrur police have arrested eight individuals involved in securing approximately 40 bails for accused persons across various courts in Patiala, Dhuri, Sangrur, Khanna, and Fatehgarh Sahib using fake documents. One individual remains at large, superintendent of police Dilpreet Singh said on Monday. Sangrur police have so far recovered 21 fake Aadhaar cards and computer accessories used for document printing from the accused, said SP Dilpreet Singh. (HT photo for representation) The SP said that the police received a tip-off on June 24 regarding Rajveer Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Sukhwinder Singh alias Billa colluding with lawyers and munshis to secure bails for large sums of money using fake documents. 'Rajveer Singh and Hardeep Singh were arrested the same day under charges 318(4) (cheating), 338 (forgery), 336(3) (committing forgery), 340(2) (forgery of valuable security), 319(2) (cheating by personation), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Their interrogation revealed a larger network involved in facilitating bail using fake documents. The probe was expanded to include Baljit Singh alias Guri, Surjit Singh, Manjinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh alias Nambardar, Mohit Kumar, and Manpreet Singh alias Mani in the case,' the SP said. Explaining the modus operandi, a police official privy to the probe said that Hardeep, Rajveer, Mohit, and Manpreet were responsible for creating fake documents for bail applications. 'These documents were then shared with Surjit Singh and printed by Baljit Singh Guri,' the police official said, pleading anonymity. 'On June 26, Mohit, Manpreet, and Baljit were apprehended. A CPU, LCD, keyboard, mouse, colour printer, and a lamination machine were recovered from Baljit Singh's possession, indicating the setup used for preparing fake documents,' the SP said. 'On the following day, on June 27, Surjit, who was already incarcerated in Central Jail, Ludhiana, in connection with another case and known for preparing fake Aadhaar and identity cards as surety documents, was arrested after being brought in on a production warrant. On the same day, Manjinder and Gurdeep, who were lodged in Sangrur district jail under a case were also arrested on production warrants,' the SP said. The police added that during the ongoing interrogation, it was revealed that this group collectively secured approximately 40 bails from various courts in Sangrur, Dhuri, Khanna, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. 'Sangrur police have so far recovered 21 fake Aadhaar cards and computer accessories used for document printing from the accused,' the SP added.
