Love all! Venus Williams serves up victory on court and romance with fiancé Andrea Preti
Venus had an extended hiatus during which she underwent a medical procedure last July to remove fibroids from her uterus.
Venus made a strong showing at the DC Open in Washington this week. The 45-year-old tennis star won her doubles match on Monday, then defeated 23-year-old Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-4 in singles on Tuesday. Throughout both matches, she showcased her signature powerfulserves and groundstrokes.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion and Olympic gold medallist had secured four Grand Slam titles before Peyton was even born.
But this time it's not just her tennis victories making headlines. Venus is also winning at the game of love, as she's confirmed the long-standing rumours about her engagement to actor Andrea (37).
'My fiancé is here, and he really encouraged me to keep playing. He's never seen me play,' Venus casually revealed.
Venus is now the second-oldest woman to win a tour-level singles match, after Martina Navratilova, who achieved this feat at age 47 in 2004.
She told the Tennis Channel that her focus was to play well and win the match.
'You can still play a good match and lose the match. It's just about putting it all together. It's so rewarding to come back after a layoff and injuries.'
With her Danish-born fiancé in the audience, Venus was aware that not only were the eyes of the tennis world on her but also the loving gaze of Andrea, who moved to Italy with his family as a teenager.
As one-half of the most famous sibling duos in sporting history, alongside her sister Serena, Venus has spent much of her life in the spotlight but has kept her romantic life private.
She dated model Elio Pis in 2012 and Nicholas Hammond in 2017 before finding her perfect match in Andrea.
The couple were first linked in July last year when they were spotted boating together in Nerano, Italy, along the Amalfi Coast.
Since then, they have kept their relationship private, though they were seen together again in January 2025. That same month Venus shared a selfie on her Instagram of them on holiday in the Bahamas, calling her now-fiancé 'the best company'.
Engagement rumours followed, sparked by photos of the tennis legend wearing a diamond ring in Rome. Weeks later she was seen wearing the same ring at Milan Fashion Week.
The man who captured Venus' heart has spent much of his career as a model but has also made a name for himself as an actor and producer.
According to his IMDb biography, Andrea studied acting at the Susan Batson Academy in New York City, after which he landed roles in TV, film and commercials.
He wrote, acted in and directed 2015's Italian movie, One More Day, and has appeared in the Italian TV series A Professor. More recently he starred in the 2023 Italian film Temptation and participated in the Italian reality series La Talpa.
Grand Slam winner Rennae Stubbs asked Venus in the post-match interview how Andrea has supported her comeback journey.
Venus glowingly admitted there were many moments when she simply wanted to relax, but her soon-to-be husband 'encouraged me to get through this'.
She is set to face Magdalena Frech in the second round on Thursday, 24 July, and with the announcement of her engagement, one can expect wedding preparations to be on the horizon soon after.

Taylor Swift to 'take the high road' over Denise Welch jibes
Taylor Swift plans to 'take the high road' after being slammed by ex-boyfriend Matt Healy's mother Denise Welch. The 35-year-old superstar and the 36-year-old 1975 frontman briefly dated following her split from actor Joe Alwyn, in April 2023 and Taylor went on to reference their relationship in her album The Tortured Poets Department. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Matt's mother Denise insisted it was unfair that Matt couldn't talk about the relationship. She said: 'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost. 'Not that I have anything against [Taylor] at all! It was just – it was tricky. 'Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she [Taylor] writes a whole album about it.' However, Taylor – who has been happily dating NFL star Travis Kelce for the past few years - plans to ignore Denise's jibes. A source told 'It's a bit obnoxious in Taylor's eyes, but she has to take the high road. 'If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor's – if she were ever to respond – she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day. 'Taylor respected Denise and will continue to do so, as this will go away very quickly. 'But if Denise continues to talk about it and bash Taylor, then Taylor would say something. The ball is still in Denise's court to see if she wants to continue the narrative she brought upon herself.'

Athletics' Nick Kurtz shares heartwarming moment with family after bonkers game
The post Athletics' Nick Kurtz shares heartwarming moment with family after bonkers game appeared first on ClutchPoints. On Friday night at Daikin Park, Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz put forth a historic performance that stunned the baseball world and earned a place in MLB history. In a 15-3 blowout victory over the Houston Astros, the 22-year-old slugger became the first rookie in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game, going a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate. Kurtz homered in the second, sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, with each home run coming off a different Astros pitcher, Ryan Gusto, Nick Hernandez, Kaleb Ort, and position player Cooper Hummel. His final homer, a three-run shot in the ninth off Hummel's 77 mph pitch, landed in the Crawford Boxes in left field. His third homer of the night, a solo blast in the eighth, traveled 414 feet. Earlier in the game, Kurtz also singled and doubled, with the double in the fourth inning narrowly missing a fifth home run by mere feet. The numbers were staggering, six hits, five extra-base hits, six runs scored, eight RBIs, and a record-tying 19 total bases, matching a modern-era MLB record set by Shawn Green in 2002. Kurtz and Green are now the only two players in MLB history to collect six hits and four home runs in the same game. Since RBIs became official in 1920, Kurtz is the only player ever to achieve in his career: a game with 4+ HR, 5+ XBH, 6+ hits, 6+ runs, and 8+ RBIs, all in one night. What made the night even more special was the presence of Kurtz's family. 'A's rookie Nick Kurtz greets his parents and godparents after the game of his life. It was the first time his godparents had seen him play a big league game. His parents flew in today to attend,' Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported. 'This is the first time my godparents have been here, so they probably have to come in the rest of the year,' Kurtz explained after the game, via The Boston Globe. 'My parents flew in today. They've been here a bunch, but it was cool to have some family here for that.' Kurtz was selected fourth overall by the A's in the 2024 MLB Draft following a standout collegiate career at Wake Forest. He dominated the minors with a 1.283 OPS across Single-A and Double-A, followed by a 1.040 OPS in Triple-A before his MLB debut on April 23, 2025. After struggling early with a .208 average and just one home run through May 19, he turned things around dramatically. Since then, he's slashed .352/.427/.870 with 24 home runs in 43 games, translating to a 90+ homer pace over a full season. In July alone, Kurtz has led all major leaguers in multiple offensive categories, batting average (.425), on-base percentage (.494), slugging (1.082), runs (22), doubles (13), home runs (11), and RBIs (27). ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps': Marvel finally made a movie you don't need a guide to follow
MoviesFacebookTweetLink Follow Maybe 'superhero fatigue' is a thing of the past – with DC's 'Superman' still soaring in theaters, Marvel's 'Fantastic Four' reboot is set to join the fun this weekend, with positive momentum. The new movie featuring Marvel's First Family, as they're known, is not a sequel, prequel, spinoff or crossover, but a fresh take on a historic group of superheroes. No prior Marvelpedia knowledge is required to enjoy. That might sound like no big deal, but after 2023's 'The Marvels,' this spring's fourth 'Captain America' movie and 'Thunderbolts*' all underperformed by Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) standards, the new 'Fantastic Four' may offer broader audience appeal by not pulling from other franchises. And while there are definite Easter eggs (this is a comic book movie based on characters dating back to 1961, after all), the movie is what you'd call no-strings-attached fun. Most of that has to do with a welcome course-correction after the last two attempts at 'Fantastic Four' (there was the suite of Chris Evans/Jessica Alba-starring movies from the aughts, followed by a largely forgettable attempt featuring Miles Teller a decade ago). This go-round is highly stylized as a retro-futuristic world a la The Jetsons (where is that movie, by the way?) that honors the 1960s-era origins of the titular foursome. There's also a game cast, including Pedro Pascal, whose three films out this season – oh wait, make that four – still feel like not enough Pedro. Add to that Vanessa Kirby, 'Stranger Things' breakout Joseph Quinn – plus 'The Bear's' Ebon-Moss Bachrach as perhaps the most charming of the quartet, even though he's covered in a rocky mug – and the result is an engaging movie that focuses on family (in addition to some intergalactic baddies). 'First Steps' doesn't even refer to the Four by their decidedly silly superhero names (the Human Torch does sound like an obsolete infomercial product, if we're being honest), but rather introduces them as a man, his wife, his best friend and his brother-in-law. They exhibit their superpowers, but their collective expertise as scientists and astronauts prove equally valuable. After a busy and tumultuous few years in the ever-sprawling MCU, fans and casual viewers alike will have a breather after this weekend's release, since 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' the studio's next major theatrical tentpole, isn't coming out for another full calendar year and change. With any luck, that will be just enough time for everyone to get another round of zzz's before another dizzying superhero superstorm commences. 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is out in theaters Friday. 'Superman' is distributed by Warner Bros., which is owned by CNN's parent company.
