Punjab launches 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' for free treatment up to 10 lakh annually
The scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal at a public event in Chandigarh.
Addressing the gathering, CM Mann said, 'Today I launched the 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' with National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal ji in Chandigarh. Under this scheme, people will get free and best treatment up to Rs 10 lakh every year.'
The scheme aimed to benefit around 3 crore people across Punjab, covering permanent residents, including government employees and pensioners.
According to the government, MMSY health cards would be issued to all eligible citizens, and treatment would be available free of cost in both government and private hospitals empanelled under the scheme.
CM Mann further added, ''Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' will cover around 3 crore population of Punjab. MMSY health cards will be issued to permanent residents of the state including government employees and pensioners. Free and cashless treatment will be provided in all government and private hospitals through this card.'
Furthermore, highlighting the government's commitment to public welfare, Mann stated, 'It is our responsibility to provide the best facilities in the field of health to Punjab, which we are fulfilling with full dedication and commitment.'
Earlier, Mann, along with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, announced the launch of the 'Fast Track Punjab Portal'.
The portal aims to simplify the process of starting new businesses, setting up projects, and expanding industries in the state.
He stressed the need for a business-friendly environment in which industrialists can focus 90 per cent of their time on business growth rather than running around government offices. (ANI)

ICMR-NIE introduce alert feature to reduce TB deaths in Tamil Nadu
By Shalini Bhardwaj Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 9 (ANI): More than half of all tuberculosis (TB) deaths occur within the first two months of treatment. In response, the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) has introduced a new alert feature designed to immediately notify frontline healthcare workers when a patient is identified as severely ill following a TB diagnosis. The predictive model is expected to reduce the average time from diagnosis to hospital admission for severely ill patients with tuberculosis. The ICMR-NIE has recently launched a predictive model that helps the state reduce TB deaths. The predictive model was developed using data from 57,803 adults diagnosed with TB from public health facilities. 'In 2023, of 57,803 adults with TB diagnosed from public facilities, 57,070 (99%) were triaged and 6864 (12%) were triage-positive (eligible for referral). Of 6864 eligible, 6105(89%) were referred, comprehensively assessed and confirmed as severely ill at nodal inpatient facilities. Of 6105 confirmed, 5926 (98%) were admitted for inpatient care and 5413 (92%) were successfully discharged for ambulatory directly observed treatment. The median admission duration was seven days,' the study noted. The new feature introduced by the ICMR-NIE would merge with the existing TB SeWA (Secere TB Web Application), which was launched in 2022 and integrated into the state's TN-KET (Tamil Nadu Kasanoi Erappila Thittam). According to experts from ICMR-NIE, 'This new feature will be useful to Alert front-line staff on how to recognise severely ill TB patients to avoid delay in treatment.' They further added, 'The Majority of TB deaths are being reported early (within 2 months), India TB program's information management system (Nikshay) dependent death prediction models are not feasible for prospective use as few variables are captured at diagnosis. Utilising routinely captured triage variables for severe illness in TB SeWA that are available under TN-KET at diagnosis (body mass index, pedal oedema, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and ability to stand without support), robust models for prospective use were developed.' India, Namibia defence ties strengthen with Line of Credit offer
Windhoek [Namibia], July 9 (ANI): India on Wednesday offered a Line of Credit (LOC) to Namibia, specifically to facilitate the purchase of defence assets from India. During a special briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Namibia, High Commissioner Rahul Shrivastava stated, 'In defence, Namibia is interested in the procurement of equipment from India, and we offered them a line of credit, especially for the defence.' Namibia also assured its membership in the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), an initiative launched by India to conserve big cats globally. Shrivastava confirmed, 'Namibia has assured that it will soon become a member of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA).' The International Big Cat Alliance is a global initiative designed to strengthen cooperation and resource mobilisation for the conservation of big cats (including lions, tigers, leopards, snow leopards, jaguars, pumas, and cheetahs). This alliance, launched in April 2023, aims to foster collaboration among countries to protect these majestic creatures and their habitats. The IBCA's framework agreement has recently come into force, with Namibia among the countries officially ratifying it. The idea was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 and officially launched in April 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger. A notable example of the trust between the two nations is the successful translocation of eight cheetahs from Namibia to India's Kuno National Park in 2022, marking the world's first intercontinental transfer of a major carnivore species. Another significant area of collaboration is in healthcare, as Namibia had requested assistance from India to combat malaria. Shrivastava stated, 'The situation of malaria was quite bad in Namibia, so they had requested help from us for malaria medicines, and we will soon be delivering malaria medicines and malaria diagnostic kits to Namibia.' Earlier, PM Modi received Namibia's highest civilian award, the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, from Namibia's President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. PM Modi arrived in Namibia after concluding his two-day State visit to Brazil, where he attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro and held bilateral talks with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia. Hospital fined 1L for treatment refusal in Kolkata
Kolkata: West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission fined a private hospital Rs 1 lakh for failing to explain why a doctor refused to treat an ICU patient. After his ICU admission, Sunil Baran Ray, a consultant at the hospital, refused to continue treatment. Another doctor, in charge of the ICU, misbehaved with them, Ghosh's family alleged. WBCERC on Wednesday said Woodlands ws asked to conduct an inquiry into both incidents. "We are not satisfied with the explanation offered by the hospital on why the doctor refused to treat the patient. This is unacceptable and unethical. Woodlands tried to evade responsibility," said WBCERC chairperson Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee. He added that even after the doctor refused to treat the patient, the hospital took no action or made any effort to seek an explanation from the doctor. He said the allegation of misbehaviour has not been proved. A senior Woodlands Hospital official said: "According to the patient's clinical requirement, the treating consultant wanted to transfer him under the care of a nephrologist Woodlands would like to reiterate that since the patient was under joint admission, there was no question of discontinuation of treatment."
