Pirates' legend Dave Parker passed away less than a month away from his induction ceremony, making his son's speech hit that much harder as it happened. Dave Parker II even mentioned that he died while writing his Hall of Fame speech.
Parker II finished his speech with a poem written by his father, noting that it was specifically his father's request that it be read during the acceptance speech.
The poem was a good conclusion, with Parker posthumously praising himself for his "rocket arm" and willingness to "run any catcher over." The best moment of the poem though was the finale. After mentioning that Cooperstown would be his last stop, Parker wrote, "I didn't lie in my documentary, I told you I wouldn't show [to my acceptance speech]." Considering Parker's recent death, this line hit infinitely harder.

Twins' Jhoan Duran trade could be next, with 2 teams battling for star closer
The top reliever available ahead of the MLB trade deadline appears close to being dealt. That's Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran. "A number of relievers have already been traded today — Tyler Rogers, Taylor Rogers, Andrew Chafin, Luis Garcia and Tyler Kinley — and the expectation is that Jhoan Duran could be next. Mariners and Dodgers making a push, according to sources, though other teams still trying, too," writes Mark Feinsand on X. Duran is the ultimate prize for bullpen seekers, unless A's closer Mason Miller is moved. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Dominican right-hander throws in the low-100s. His best pitch is a splinker that can get up to about 100 with nasty downward movement. He broke in as a 24-year old in 2022 and had a 1.86 ERA with 89 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. In 2023, Duran put up a 2.45 ERA with 84 more punchouts in 62.1 innings. He struggled the most in 2024, with a 3.64 ERA and a 6-9 record while striking out 66 in 54.1 innings. Duran is back to his usual self statistically this season with a 2.01 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. If he went to the Dodgers, he'd probably be the closer. Between injuries and ineffectiveness, their bullpen hasn't quite shaped up the way they expected it to. The Mariners already have a strong closer in right-hander Andres Munoz, so that'd be a less certain situation. It'd be great for Seattle to have both guys, but as far as how they'd be used together, that'd be something to be figured out if they can actually pull off the deal for Duran. Lions could pull off league-altering trade with Cowboys for Micah Parsons
The Detroit Lions are in desperate need of pass-rushing help, and the team could orchestrate a league-altering trade with the Dallas Cowboys for All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons. For The Win's Charles Curtis lists the Lions as one of the top six landing spots for Parsons, who could force his way out of Dallas soon. "The Super Bowl window is open in Motor City. Aidan Hutchinson is coming back from that horrible injury, so why not add another body to rush the QB?" Curtis wrote. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Friday that Parsons and the Cowboys are still far apart on an extension, and it has gotten to a point where the superstar pass rusher is considering requesting a trade or cutting ties with the organization. "The Micah Parsons-Cowboys relationship has deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team, per multiple league sources familiar with the situation," Russini wrote. "The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp, and are not currently negotiating." It's shocking that the Cowboys aren't willing to pay Parsons his desired contract. Since entering the league in 2021, the 26-year-old has tallied four straight double-digit sack campaigns and has earned four Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro nods. If Dallas decides to trade away Parsons, Detroit would be a logical landing spot. Pairing Aidan Hutchinson with Parsons on the Lions' defensive line would be lethal, and the move would elevate the Lions into the clear favorites in the NFC North and possibly the entire conference. Trading for the Penn State product and giving him a lucrative extension will be challenging, especially with Hutchinson also seeking a long-term deal. However, general manager Brad Holmes would be foolish not to look into a trade for Parsons, as the 2021 No.12 overall pick is a generational talent, and those types of players don't come on the trade market often. It still seems unlikely that Parsons won't be with the Cowboys for the foreseeable future, but with how the relationship looks between both sides right now, the chances of him leaving Dallas have skyrocketed.
