Brecon care home Morgannwg House sold for the first time
A POWYS nursing home that is also a Grade II-listed property has been sold for an undisclosed price. Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has announced the sale of Morgannwg House, which is located in Brecon and is a former school. Following a confidential sales process with Oliver McCarthy at Christie & Co, it has been purchased by Hapus Care Group LTD, an expanding operator that owns 12 homes within its group. This is its first home in the area it classes as South Wales. Established over 20 years ago, Morgannwg House is registered for up to 20 residents. It maintains a high occupancy rate and is run under management. The business is based in a 20-bedroom, four-storey, Grade II-listed property with a purpose-built extension to the rear. Originally a school, the nursing home has a redundant gymnasium in the grounds, which could be developed for a further 30 bedrooms. Located within the centre of Brecon, on Glamorgan Street, it is near the high street. It has been owned by the family-run business, Sentimental Care Ltd, for the last 20 years, and was brought to market as they were looking to scale back and concentrate on their other home in the west country. Oliver McCarthy, director of care at Christie & Co, said: 'I'm really pleased to be able to assist Sentimental Care Ltd in selling their nursing home in the Brecon Beacons. 'This will be our second successful sale for our client Tazmina Ellis, who will remain in the sector and concentrate on her other business interests.' He confirmed that Morgannwg House was sold for an undisclosed price. Morgannwg House was built around 1804 in the traditional Georgian style, and the main house has undergone total conversion to meet modern standards while maintaining the beautiful Georgian decor. The home is run 24 hours a day by a registered care manager and a team of staff. Each single room has en-suite facilities and a nurse call system, and residents can have their own telephone lines connected.
