He was set to make his grand return to the cage last June but was forced to withdraw from his comeback clash with Michael Chandler due to injury.
The prospect of the former two-division champion returning to the cage seemingly took a step in the right direction earlier this week.
The fan favourite was drug tested for the first time since re-entering the UFC's drug testing
pool
on board his
luxury
yacht
.
And
the Irishman
has once again taken to social media to insist that his long-awaited comeback will come to fruition.
Along with a selfie of himself smiling with his bold new mohawk, McGregor wrote on Instagram: "Return of the Mac."
The post even included a snippet of Mark Morrison's 1996 platinum hit song 'Return of the Mack'.
McGregor's latest drug test has yet to be logged in the
UFC
's Anti-Doping database.
Fighting has seemingly been at the back of McGregor's mind for the last few months, with the SBG
Ireland
star setting his sights on running for political office in his homeland.

But they returned to the forefront of his mind after he got wind of the UFC's plans to host a fight card at the White House

Hotel in December 2018.
The former two-division champion appealed the verdict returned at
Dublin
's High
Court
last November.
He is expected to learn the verdict of his appeal this week.

Cameron Young shot 5-under-par 65 and threatened to run away from the pack during the Wyndham Championship's third round Saturday at Greensboro, North Carolina. Through six holes of the third round, Young's margin rose to eight strokes on a quintet that was trying to keep him in their sights. Young had birdies on Nos. 3-6. Until the 15th hole Saturday, Young's lone bogey in the tournament came on No. 1 (his 10th hole) of the first round Thursday. He later added two birdies. Young, 28, played collegiately at nearby Wake Forest. Rai lost momentum he had in the second round when he came back to complete that Saturday morning. Then in the third round, he was 2 over through 12 holes before three consecutive birdies put him back in the mix. Amateur Jackson Koivun, a college golfer for Auburn, shot 65 and is alone in sixth place at 11 under. South Korea's Sungae Im, after a pair of 64s and playing in the final group in the third round, dipped with a 73 and is at 9 under. It was a long day at the course. The third round used threesomes, starting on the first and 10th tees. The Wyndham Championship marks the last tournament on the PGA Tour's regular season, so there will be crucial developments throughout Sunday's round as golfers aim to secure spots in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings in order to qualify for the postseason.

Alex Dunne claims another F2 podium finish as Pepe Marti's Hungaroring sprint victory cleared after stewards' review
Marti led from the lights but was pushed all the way by Rodin Motorsport's Dunne, who mounted a late charge after muscling past Arvid Lindblad in a bold move that split the Campos teammates. The 19-year-old Offaly driver closed to within DRS range on the final lap, but Marti defended aggressively, with Dunne forced wide on the penultimate corner after a last-ditch overtake attempt around the outside. The Irishman was very unhappy in the aftermath, claiming he had been 'brake-tested' by Marti earlier behind the safety car. The Campos driver was investigated for the incident, while Dunne himself was noted for a yellow flag infringement but both drivers were ultimately cleared by the stewards. Jak Crawford completed the podium after finally getting past Lindblad in the closing laps. The American's persistence paid off after a safety car, triggered by Sebastian Montoya's stranded PREMA, bunched up the field and reignited the battle behind the leaders.
