Opinion: Canada's wild is calling and RVing is the perfect adventure
The sound of birds chirping on a crisp morning breeze. Twigs cracking beneath your feet. The soft trickle of a creek weaving its way through the forest. A glimpse of a moose in the distance. Mist lifting off a turquoise glacial lake ahead.

RVing is more than a way to travel. It's a way of moving through the world — for those who crave freedom and wanderlust, seek a deeper connection with nature and our country, who yearn to slow down and savour the simpler things. It's why 14 per cent of Canadian households own an RV. But these experiences aren't reserved just for RVers — they're for anyone looking for a way to travel that's affordable, enriching and profoundly Canadian.

Lately, something remarkable has been happening. Canadians are turning their gaze inward. Recent reports show a noticeable decline in Canadian travel to the U.S., not merely because of logistics or exchange rates but by choice. Out of quiet defiance.

In fact, a recent study by Abacus Data found nearly half of Canadians who are steering clear of the U.S. are doing so to support Canadian businesses and destinations.

Even within the RV community, we're seeing a shift: more RVers are trading cross-border travel to explore destinations here at home. Snowbirds are cancelling their annual trips south of the border to spend more time travelling across their own country. RVing is reclaiming what it means to truly see this country, not just fly over it.

This isn't just a silver lining of uncertain times. It's something deeper. It's a quiet declaration of who we are as Canadians. We're not just avoiding U.S. travel — we're vowing to embrace what our own backyard has to offer. It's why the federal government introduced the Canada Strong Pass, offering free access to national parks this summer.

Five years ago, summer vacations looked a lot different. Limited to where and how we could travel, a record number of Canadians turned to RVing for the first time. It was a welcome opportunity for Canadians to get a taste of what it has to offer.

Today, we're seeing a similar opportunity in front of us — only this time, driven by choice and not necessity. A chance for Canadians to choose Canada first. A chance to live their wildhood. And I hope many choose RVing again, too — like all of those who embraced the lifestyle over the years and continue to cherish it to this day.

If being patriotic, supporting local businesses and stretching your dollar are top of mind, RVing is a standout option for anyone.

Celebrate Summer the European Way: Fresh Kiwis from Greece, Abruzzo Whites & Late Harvest Wines of Bordeaux for Perfect Canadian Picnics
Enjoy the vibrant flavors of The Charming Taste of Europe this summer season TORONTO, July 8, 2025 /CNW/ -- As summer takes over parks, lakesides, and patios across Canada, The Charming Taste of Europe invites Canadians to embrace the simple pleasures of outdoor dining with a European twist. Highlighting the freshness of green kiwis from Greece's Imathia region, the vibrant character of Abruzzo white wines, and the golden elegance of late harvest wines of Bordeaux, these seasonal pairings are perfect for summer weekends and for continuing the festive spirit of Canada Day celebrations. Imathia's green kiwis are instantly recognizable thanks to their fuzzy brown skin and bright green flesh studded with tiny black seeds. They strike a delicious balance between sweetness and tartness, making them the perfect snack for hot summer days, whether you enjoy them alone, in a fruit salad, or alongside soft cheeses. Imathia stands out as a top-growing area, where farmers blend tradition and care to deliver consistently high-quality, flavorful, and refreshing fruit. To accompany these fresh flavors, the white wines of Abruzzo, especially Pecorino and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, offer brightness, elegance, and a refreshing character that's ideal for outdoor dining. Grown between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic Sea, these wines reflect the region's natural beauty and coastal freshness. Pecorino delivers lively citrus notes and floral aromas, while Trebbiano is known for its delicate fruit, crisp acidity, and smooth finish. Both pair beautifully with classic picnic fare such as grilled seafood, fresh salads, soft cheeses, and light pasta dishes. Easy to enjoy and full of charm, Abruzzo whites bring a touch of Italy's sunny coastline to any Canadian summer afternoon. For a touch of indulgence, Bordeaux Moelleux wines bring brightness and balance to any summer picnic. Made primarily from Sémillon and Sauvignon grapes grown in the clay-limestone soils of Bordeaux, these wines are delicately produced using over-ripened harvests and careful vinification. The result is a pale yellow, expressive wine bursting with the fruity aromas of Sémillon, offering irresistible freshness and a subtle sweetness. Bordeaux Moelleux pairs perfectly with fresh appetizers, soft cheeses, fruit-based desserts, or even as a light aperitif to begin the picnic. With their airy, elegant style, these wines bring a sense of refinement and joy to warm summer afternoons. With summer in full swing, these European specialties offer a charming and delicious way to gather outdoors, whether for fireworks, barbecues, or park picnics. Just a few thoughtfully chosen ingredients can elevate any outing into a moment of pure seasonal joy. The Charming Taste of Europe is a campaign co-financed by the European Union to promote some of Europe's most distinctive agricultural and wine products. This summer, bring a taste of Europe to your picnic basket and discover why charm, quality, and tradition never go out of season. This posh Whistler resort has been named the best in Canada
In the world of travel (as in pretty much every sector), landing at the top of a best-of list can be a big deal. One of Whistler's most posh properties, the Four Seasons Resort, is set to feel the ripple effect of such a placing after being announced as the No. 1 resort in Canada on Travel+Leisure magazine's 2025 World's Best Awards. Rankings for the 30th anniversary of the publication's world's best awards were reportedly tallied from more than 657,000 reader votes. The magazine reports that a total of 180,000 readers completed the survey for this year. The survey questions touch on aspects of each property such as rooms, location, service, food and overall value. Discover the best of B.C.'s recipes, restaurants and wine. According to Chelan Goonetilleke, general manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler, the top placing has much to do with both the resort's offered experiences and hospitality as it does its ambience and environment in the mountain town. 'We take great pride in crafting moments of joy and connection that reflect the genuine care our team brings to every guest experience,' Goonetilleke says. Additional B.C. destinations to make the top-five list of Canadian resorts included: Fairmont Chateau Whistler (No. 2), and The Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino (No. 3). The 2025 Travel+Leisure World's Beset Awards also ranked 10 top hotels, different from resorts due to property amenities. The historic Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria ranked No. 1 in the ranking. Additional B.C. hotels to land in the top 10 included: Fairmont Pacific Rim (No. 7); and Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (No. 9). The magazine also ranked the top five Canadian cities, as chosen by reader votes. Vancouver came in at No. 3 behind Quebec City and Montreal. Victoria ranked No. 5 on the list behind Halifax. The Four Seasons Resort & Residences Whistler is no stranger to snagging the top spot on such prestigious travel lists. Earlier this year, the property was named the best in Canada by the U.S. News & World Report. Located at 4591 Blackcomb Way, the resort features a mix of accommodations, including approximately 270 guest rooms and suites, as well as private residences. For those who like to add a little rest and relaxation to their holiday, the resort is home to a spa, a heated swimming pool, and three whirlpools. The five-star luxury resort boasts several on-site food and drink options, including Sidecut Steakhouse, Braidwood Tavern and The Library by The Macallan . The top rating comes amid a week of buzz in the B.C. hotel sector. Shangri-La hotel in Vancouver was sold and will become part of the Park Hyatt brand following what has been described as a multimillion-dollar redesign. Aharris@
