Samsung fans snap up £548 freebies as shoppers rush for £46 a month Sky deal

Daily Mirror7 days ago

Samsung are offering some great freebies if you decide to buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra including a free tablet and smartwatch worth £548
If shoppers on the hunt for fantastic bargains, Samsung is currently offering a host of free extras and cashback deals on their products. We recently reported that Samsung is giving away £300 cashback with the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra - and now there's good news for mobile phone enthusiasts too.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with some hefty freebies for those who choose to purchase the handset or take out a contract. Sky is offering the Galaxy S25 Ultra for just £46 per month with an upfront cost of £12.
Alongside this, customers will receive a complimentary Galaxy Tab A9+ tablet and a Galaxy Watch7. However, it's worth noting that the Sky contract spans 36 months, meaning over the course of the contract, customers will pay £1668, excluding any data costs.
It's a cost-effective way to spread the payment, but customers will pay more in the long run while receiving numerous freebies. For those who decide to snap up the phone, they can visit this promotional page by Samsung to enter their details and claim the free items once they have the phone.
But if shoppers want another phone, there's also Carphone Warehouse, which has a range of other deals to explore. And for Apple fans, Giffgaff also has a reasonable monthly price on its iPhone 16 Pro with a £24 a month plan with a slightly more expensive £25 upfront cost if users want to shop around.
Tech gurus at the Daily Express have put the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra through its paces, and it's safe to say that they were thoroughly wowed by this AI-driven mobile wonder. Tech editor Dave Snelling remarked: "Samsung has done it again and produced another spectacularly good smartphone. The Galaxy S25 Ultra looks great, features a stunning 6.9-inch screen, a brilliant camera, long battery life, and that supremely quick Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
"It also gets all of those Galaxy AI upgrades that can organise your life, retouch your photos, chat to you like a human and bring live football scores straight to the home screen."
Nevertheless, David found some aspects of the AI technology to be daunting, noting: " It's all clever stuff, but for some, it might just be a bit too smart.
"There's so much Artificial Intelligence now included that it can all feel slightly overwhelming and only power users (and true AI geeks) are going to get close to scratching the surface of what this device can really do.
"That doesn't make this a bad phone. In fact, it's a very good phone. It just feels like all of Samsung's development is going into the software rather than boosting the hardware. Perhaps the AI revolution in smartphones is happening because there's little else left to innovate or enhance. One might ponder whether a new phone is necessary at all - they say AI is the solution.
"If the brilliant S24 Ultra gets the S25's Galaxy AI upgrades - and the price continues to fall due to its age - that might also be a better bet. However, if you really want the best Galaxy on the planet, then the S25 Ultra won't disappoint. It's a very, very smart phone!".

Sir David Murray vows to save Dalzell steel mill as he reveals masterplan

SIR David Murray vowed to be a 'big customer' of Dalzell steel mill if his masterplan to save it becomes reality. The ex-Rangers owner and metal magnate, 73, says he is ready to play a major role in providing Scottish steel for North Sea wind turbines to power the nation's future energy. 4 Sir David Murray vowed to be a 'big customer' of Dalzell steel mill Credit: Andrew Barr 4 The plant in Motherwell is currently mothballed due to cheap Chinese steel imports and a drought in orders Credit: Getty 4 Some 140 workers were furloughed or placed on maintenance duties in April this year Credit: Reuters 4 New Liberty owner Sanjeev Gupta with Nicola Sturgeon Credit: Alan Ewing The plant in Motherwell is currently mothballed due to cheap Chinese steel imports and a drought in orders, with some 140 workers furloughed or placed on maintenance duties in April this year. Sir David has been in talks with Holyrood ministers for a decade over halting the industry's decline. He has now revealed he has held hush-hush negotiations with the UK Government to rescue the mill. His latest intervention comes after PM Sir Keir Starmer and Scottish Secretary Ian Murray blasted SNP ministers in May for allowing the nation's last remaining steel plants — Dalzell and Clydebridge in Cambuslang — to cease production. The Scottish Government orchestrated a takeover of the sites in 2016, putting taxpayers' cash on the line. And Sir Keir insisted last month it was important to 'get those plants up and running again'. Now Sir David has told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: 'There is a lot of political stuff going on over Dalzell. I've been heavily involved in trying to save the plate mill. 'I have spoken to the British Government in the last week and there's a meeting in a few weeks' time. 'The workforce has stayed at home for months and got 80 per cent of their wages. But it could be sorted in a week. We need people in management to work with me. 'I'd be the chairman, I'd help the management, I'd help the business, we'd be a big customer. Former Rangers owner Sir David Murray vows to save Dalzell steel mill with masterplan 'At the time it closed, I was one of its biggest customers. 'At our peak we'd be selling 550,000 tonnes of steel a year. 'That's five Forth rail bridges in weight. Today it's just over one because the fabrication business is diminishing — it's ridiculous that Britain does not have the capacity to roll a steel plate.' Sir David told how there is one mill in the north-east of England which is Ukrainian-owned. He went on: 'The wind turbines being made for the North Sea are much bigger now. 'It's a heavier plate, ideal for Dalzell. There are 50,000 tonnes of steel coming to Teesside this week from Korea to be made into turbines. 'The Scottish Government don't own one wind turbine. Look at the cost of energy. We are buying power from other people who put in these turbines. We need to create growth, jobs and prosperity in this country.' We told last July of fears the Dalzell operation would be mothballed amid a slowdown in work. A report in March by the Community Union, which represents workers at the two plants, said low-cost steel from China and high UK energy prices were hitting British steel production. The union said Dalzell needed investment to become a 'world-leading producer' of a key turbines component. Sir David has long called for an inquiry into the Scottish Government's involvement in the 2016 sale of the Lanarkshire plants to tycoon Sanjeev Gupta and Liberty Steel. The sale was backed by a £7million loan from Scottish Enterprise. MURRAY'S HEART SCARE OP EXCLUSIVE by Rodger Hannah SIR David Murray has lifted the lid on a secret heart op after he was diagnosed with a potentially-fatal medical condition. The businessman fell ill shortly before selling Rangers to Craig Whyte in 2011 — to be told he had an aortic aneurysm. He revealed: 'I was driving home over the Forth Road Bridge and I thought I was having a heart attack. I went into Dunfermline Hospital. I had a scan. It's basically your main blood vessel and the aneurysm makes it expand. 'If it bursts, you've got about half an hour.' Sir David believes the pressure of Rangers' financial issues and the global recession could have contributed to his health scare. He added: 'They told me I needed an operation, which I had in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. 'I shared the information with Craig Brown a few years ago. 'He had an identical thing. His burst but they managed to get him in on time.' Former Scotland manager Brown needed life-saving surgery in 2020. He told the Scottish Sun at the time: 'They say only about three out of ten survive it.' Brown died in 2023 aged 82. But Sir David claims ministers rejected his rival bid because it was potentially incompatible with state aid rules, and has criticised Mr Gupta's management since. He said: 'Ten years ago, I met the Scottish Government and the First Minister [Nicola Sturgeon]. I put a proposal to them and I was told they couldn't do it because they couldn't give state aid. 'Then they lent somebody else £7million who hasn't paid it back.' Mr Gupta, executive chairman of GFG Alliance which owns Liberty Steel, is being prosecuted by Companies House for failing to file accounts for more than 70 companies listed in Britain. He denies any wrongdoing. Ayr-born Sir David spoke exclusively ahead of this Thursday's July publication of his autobiography 'Mettle: Tragedy, Courage and Titles. He remains chair of his family firm, Murray Capital Group, albeit his son, also David, runs day-to-day operations as managing director. He reveals in his new book that some of his teenage grandkids have already attended board meetings. He added: 'There is an opportunity for young people but you better come to the table with a skill. 'You're not coming, as my great friend Sean Connery said, as a member of The Lucky Sperm Club.' The UK Government confirmed Sir David had met with MP Ian Murray. A source said: 'David Murray has met Ian Murray to discuss his concerns about the Dalzell works being mothballed because the SNP cut a bad deal. We encourage the SNP Government to take advantage of the trade deals the UK Labour Government has cut and the industrial strategy which present a huge opportunity for Scottish steel.' Liberty Steel declined to comment. The Scottish Government said its 2016 intervention 'sustained over 100 jobs at Dalzell and retained steelmaking capacity in Scotland.' Scottish Enterprise confirmed: 'We remain in discussion with Liberty Steel regarding repayment of the loan funding.'

You Won't Believe What Samsung Did With the Z Fold 7 (Compared to the Fold 6!)

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 introduces a refined approach to foldable smartphone innovation, building on the foundation laid by its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. With advancements in design, performance, and features, Samsung aims to enhance the foldable experience while addressing user feedback. This comparison highlights the key differences between the two models, offering insights into how the Fold 7 raises the bar in this competitive market. Watch this video on YouTube. Thinner, Lighter, and More Portable The Galaxy Z Fold 7 stands out with its slimmer and lighter design, making it more portable and user-friendly. When unfolded, the device measures between 3.9 mm and 4.5 mm in thickness and weighs approximately 7.5 ounces. This represents a noticeable reduction in bulk compared to the Fold 6, catering to users who prioritize portability. However, this design change comes with a trade-off: the removal of the built-in stylus digitizer layer, meaning the Fold 7 no longer supports an integrated stylus. For users who rely on stylus functionality, this may be a drawback, but for those seeking a more compact device, the benefits are clear. Samsung also introduces new color options—black, silver, and blue—offering a fresh aesthetic that complements the device's sleek design. These updates reflect Samsung's commitment to balancing functionality with style, making sure the Fold 7 appeals to a wide range of users. Enhanced Displays for a Better Visual Experience Samsung continues to push the boundaries of display technology with the Fold 7, delivering a superior visual experience. The device features an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display, providing ample screen space for multitasking, gaming, and media consumption. A significant improvement is the near-elimination of the crease on the main display, a common issue in earlier foldable models. This advancement not only enhances the visual appeal but also improves the durability of the screen, making it more practical for everyday use. The displays also benefit from improved brightness and color accuracy, making sure vibrant visuals in various lighting conditions. Whether you're streaming videos, editing photos, or working on documents, the Fold 7's displays are designed to deliver a premium experience. Camera System: Borrowing from the Best The Galaxy Z Fold 7 incorporates the 200 MP main camera sensor from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, setting a new standard for image quality in foldable smartphones. This sensor captures exceptional detail and clarity, making it ideal for both casual photography and professional use. The rest of the camera system remains consistent with the Fold 6, including a 12 MP ultrawide lens, 10 MP telephoto lens, 10 MP cover selfie camera, and a 4 MP under-display camera. However, the Fold 7 introduces software enhancements that elevate the photography experience. Features like smarter camera suggestions and optimized settings for various scenarios ensure that users can capture stunning photos and videos effortlessly. Whether you're shooting in low light, capturing wide landscapes, or taking portraits, the Fold 7's camera system is versatile enough to meet diverse needs. Performance Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 At the heart of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, also known as the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This processor delivers a significant boost in performance, particularly for demanding tasks such as gaming, multitasking, and AI-driven applications. The Fold 7 runs on One UI 8, built on Android 16, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience. Enhanced multitasking features, such as dynamic layout adjustments, make the Fold 7 a powerful tool for productivity-focused users. Whether you're running multiple apps simultaneously or switching between tasks, the device is designed to handle it all with ease. The combination of innovative hardware and software ensures that the Fold 7 delivers a smooth and responsive performance. AI Features That Work Smarter Artificial intelligence plays a central role in the Fold 7, introducing features that enhance productivity and convenience. Tools like real-time translation and note summarization streamline communication and information processing. For example, the real-time translation feature allows users to interact across languages seamlessly, while the note summarization tool condenses lengthy documents into concise summaries, saving time and effort. These AI-driven capabilities extend to the camera system as well, with smarter suggestions for framing and settings. The Fold 7's AI features are designed to adapt to user needs, making the device not only powerful but also highly intuitive. Battery Life and Charging: Efficiency Over Size The Galaxy Z Fold 7 retains the 4,400 mAh battery capacity of its predecessor but benefits from improved power efficiency thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. This results in longer battery life without increasing the physical size of the battery, making sure that the device remains compact and lightweight. Charging speeds remain consistent, with support for 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. While these specifications may not represent a major leap forward, they provide a reliable and consistent charging experience. For users who value efficiency and dependability, the Fold 7 delivers on both fronts. Pricing and Market Strategy Despite its numerous upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch at the same $1,899 price point as the Fold 6 in the U.S. This pricing strategy reflects Samsung's effort to balance premium innovation with accessibility, making sure that the Fold 7 remains competitive within the foldable smartphone market. In some regions, minor price adjustments may occur due to factors like tariffs and inflation, but overall, Samsung's approach positions the Fold 7 as a strong contender in its category. For users considering an upgrade, the Fold 7 offers a compelling combination of design, performance, and features at a price that aligns with its value. By maintaining competitive pricing, Samsung ensures that the Fold 7 appeals to both existing customers and new adopters of foldable technology.
