Carlos Alcaraz comes through ‘stressful' Jan-Lennard Struff test
But 6ft 4in Struff strutted his stuff in the second, firing down 139mph missiles before shocking second seed Alcaraz when he clinched the crucial break for 5-3 before levelling the match.

However Alcaraz, who needed five sets to overcome veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round, gathered himself to win 6-1 3-6 6-3 in two hours and 25 minutes.
'I knew it was going to be really difficult and I had to be focused on every shot,' said the 22-year-old Spaniard.
'His game suits the grass, big serves, coming to the net, so I'm pleased with everything I did today. Proud to get the win in four sets.

'To be honest I was suffering in every service game I did. Lots of break points down. It was stressful.'
Next up for the five-time grand slam champion is Russian 14th seed Andrey Rublev.
Taylor Fritz has been on court for so long this week he could soon be eligible for squatter's rights.
The American fifth seed came through two marathon five-setters spread over three days to reach the third round, while a three-hour 12-minute win over Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in four has also taken its toll.
'I wouldn't be surprised if I'm a bit sore after this match, because even though it was four, it was much more physical than my other two matches,' he said.
'I did a lot more side-to-side running in the heat as well. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm a bit sore. But overall I'm feeling good.'
Fritz will face Australian Jordan Thompson, who beat Luciano Darderi, also in four sets.

Thompson, who is hindered by back problems, is in the last 16 for the first time.
Fiery Italian Darderi was angered when Thompson's cap came off during a rally with the 31-year-old catching it and going on to win the point – had it hit the ground he would have lost it.
Brazil's rising teenage star Joao Fonseca disappointed his legion of noisy fans after he lost the all-South American showdown with Nicolas Jarry.
Chilean qualifier Jarry secured a fourth-round meeting with Britain's Cameron Norrie after a 6-3 6-4 3-6 7-6 (4) victory on a raucous Court Two.

Carlos Alcaraz's new weapon at Wimbledon that has him 'performing at 100%'
Carlos Alcaraz will hope for a Wimbledon three-peat this summer, and he has adopted new technology to help him boost his performance at the London-based Grand Slam Carlos Alcaraz is on a quest for his third consecutive Wimbledon title, and will face off against Andrey Rublev in the round of 16. The young Spaniard, who has already conquered Italy's Fabio Fognini, Britain's Oliver Tarvet and Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff, is eyeing his sixth Grand Slam trophy and his third at SW19 in a row. But it's not just his tennis prowess that's catching attention; fans have spotted an unusual blue patch on Alcaraz's chest – a high-tech aid helping him combat the sweltering London heat. This innovative patch is designed to monitor his sweat and fluid levels, ensuring he stays hydrated and ready to perform at his peak. The 22-year-old previously sported the patch during his victorious French Open campaign, where he beat Jannik Sinner in a thrilling final. It's not just about tracking sweat loss; the patch also provides crucial data on how much hydration Alcaraz needs to maintain his top game. Alcaraz, always on the lookout for an edge, spoke candidly about his unique accessory, explaining: "I always say that details make the difference. Yes, it's something to control sweat, to know what I should take during matches, before matches, to be at 100%. "It probably only helps me one or two percent more. But I believe, as I said, that details make the difference. "It's something I work on sometimes. I did it in Paris. I use it here to see what I should take." Addressing the scorching conditions sweeping the UK, he added: "Yes, this week, last week, and I think next week it's going to be quite hot. So I think it will be great to know what I should take more of-more water or whatever." The innovative SweaTracker patch is the brainchild of tech firm Sweanty. Established in July 2021 by the enterprising duo Llorella and Laura Ortega, Sweanty clinched the top spot at the Allianz Startup Challenge's second instalment in March 2024. The company has also roped in a team of scientific experts to refine the patch. While still in the development stage, the SweaTracker is expected to launch commercially early next year, with its profile boosted by Alcaraz's glowing recommendation. "The patches allow us to analyse sweat and propose personalised hydration guidelines," explained Anna Llorella, co-founder. The firm is actively conducting hands-on sweat assessments and perfecting the final version of the patch. An accompanying app is in the works, enabling users to access their custom hydration advice. Over on the Sweanty website, they tout the product as "the first smart patch designed to analyse your sweat and transform that data into personalised hydration strategies." The device also purports to measure a person's sweat rate and the loss of key electrolytes simply by being placed on the skin during exercise. It isn't the first instance of the Spanish sensation utilising cutting-edge technology to boost his performance either, reports the Express. In November 2024, he sported a nasal strip at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam to assist his breathing.

Your best bits of transfer stories and gossip from the world of Scottish football this Saturday morning: Rodgers breaks silence on Kuhn Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed forward Nicolas Kuhn is on the verge of joining Italian side Como and that his departure is an example of why playing for the Scottish champions can be so beneficial. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Celtic are set to rake in £16.5million for a player they bought 18 months ago for £3m from Rapid Vienna and Rodgers is pleased that the transfer is taking place earlier in the window so he can source reinforcements. 'We've virtually agreed between the club and Como so it looks at this point that he'll be on his way, but we just have to wait for confirmation,' said Rodgers after Celtic's 1-0 win over Queen's Park on Friday night. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. | SNS Group 'I think it's very clear, the model of Celtic. He's come in and in the 18 months he's done absolutely fantastic for us. He was aware of interest towards the end of last season and that sort of followed through. 'Other teams have joined in that interest over the summer and that's why a lot of the young players come. It's a wonderful, brilliant club to come to develop, and improve. And you can see within a short period of time, 18 months, he's now getting the move that he wants. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Of course, we want to succeed but a lot of these players they come in with the notion that they can develop and improve. They're at a brilliant club but they get the opportunity to go on and earn three or four times more in salary and that's something that will always be a challenge for the likes of ourselves. 'But he's done brilliant for us in the 18 months and if he does end up going and signing up a Como then it's great business all round. 'I think it really helps us. The earlier, the better, really. Because if a player wants to go then I don't see the point in them hanging about. Really, if you can get the deal done and you get the valuation, what you think is right, then do it, move on and look to get the replacements in.' Nicolas Kuhn is set to join Como from Celtic. | SNS Group Rodgers also confirmed that Polish defender Maik Nawrocki is heading for German second-tier side Hannover on a season-long loan. The 24-year-old has been hindered by injury, managing just 18 appearances for the Hoops over the course of his two seasons after joining from Legia Warsaw in 2023. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Maik's never really consistently been able to stay fit and really take that spot,' said the manager. 'This time last year, he started a game for us (at Ayr) and then he got injured and was out for a number of weeks. So, he's had a couple of years where he hasn't quite got the games that he would have liked. So it's important that he goes out and plays.' Rodgers welcomed his fifth signing of the summer on Friday when 23-year-old Japanese defender Hayato Inamura joined on a four-year deal from J-League side Albirex Niigata. However, the manager explained that his latest recruit will be bedded in gently to life at Celtic. Asked if he would be ready to go straight into the first team, Rodgers said: 'No, he won't be. He's a part of the investment of the club. We'll assess and see where he's at as a young player and then it's whether he stays with the squad or whether he has to go out on loan.' McInnes gives Penrice his blessing Hearts head coach Derek McInnes revealed his disappointment at not being able to work with James Penrice, but insisted the left-back deserves his move to AEK Athens after the Greek side agreed a fee in the region of £2m for the 26-year-old. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Penrice joined Hearts on a free transfer last summer and was one the of the Jambos' most impressive players. He left the team's training camp in Spain on Friday morning and is expected to have his transfer confirmed imminently. 'AEK have met our valuation,' McInnes said, 'which is brilliant money back and a great opportunity for James. In an ideal world, I'm just in the door and I've wanted to work with him for a while, but sometimes you've got to be fair. 'He deserves credit. He was outstanding in a tough season last year. It is a fantastic opportunity for him. Obviously it still needs to be concluded, but he looks to be on his way.' James Penrice is set to leave Hearts for AEK Athens. | SNS Group Rangers close in on defender Rangers are reportedly closing in on the arrival of Wolves centre-half Nasser Djiga on a loan deal for the upcoming season. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Talks have progressed between the Ibrox club and Djiga, who moved to the English Premier League side from Red Star Belgrade five months ago for £10m but has struggled to make an impact at first-team level. Rangers want to reinforce their options in the heart of their defence and are working on a move for experienced Leicester City centre-back Conor Coady. Finnish starlet joins United Jim Goodwin is excited about the 'energy' Dario Naamo will bring to Dundee United after the Finland Under-21 international wing-back joined on a season-long loan from Austrian second-tier side SKN St Polten. The Tannadice club revealed they have an option to buy the 20-year-old, who previously played with Honka and SJK in his homeland before moving to Austria last year. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Dario Naamo has joined Dundee United. | SNS Group 'Dario boasts maturity beyond his years, having competed in senior football from the outset of his flourishing career,' manager Goodwin told the United website. 'He personifies the modern-day wing-back – energetic, combative and technically accomplished, with a desire to impact the game at both ends of the park. 'Furthermore, he'll provide both depth and quality to our ever-strengthening playing group, adding healthy competition to his position. We're excited to integrate him with the rest of his team-mates and look forward to closely tracking his progression as a player and a person during his time at Tannadice.' Dundee bring in Hay Dundee have announced the signing of forward Ashley Hay on a two-year deal from Brentford. The 21-year-old spent two years with the Bees after joining in the summer of 2023 from Hitchin and also had a loan spell at Cheltenham. Hay, who was the joint-leading scorer for Brentford B in the 2023/24 season, will now link up again with new Dundee boss Steven Pressley, who left his role as the Bees' head of individual player development to take over at Dens Park in June. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'I am excited to be here and can't wait to meet all the boys,' Hay said on Dundee's website. 'I was with Steven at Brentford. He came to me and my agent, and proposed for me to come here. I heard about the project and couldn't wait to get down.

Enzo Maresca says Chelsea Club World Cup win over Palmeiras was ‘perfect night'
A deflected late Malo Gusto cross saw the Londoners snatch a 2-1 victory in their quarter-final against Palmeiras in Philadelphia. That came after Cole Palmer's early opener had been cancelled out by a stunning strike from Estevao, the 18-year-old winger who is to join them after the tournament. One step closer. ✊ — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 5, 2025 Maresca said: 'We're very happy. It's a fantastic day. The semi-finals of the Club World Cup – the best clubs in the world – and we are there. 'Probably for us it has been the perfect night because we won and Estevao scored, so it was very good for all of us.' Estevao was given a tough time by Marc Cucurella in a first half Chelsea largely controlled but he shone in the second period as the Brazilians fought their way back into the game. He equalised when he took a pass from the right and smashed a shot past Robert Sanchez from a tight angle. 'You can see he is a huge talent, you can see is a fantastic player,' said Maresca. 'The only thing now is when you come from South America or another part of the world to Europe you need to adapt. 'We are going to help him to adapt and first of all to enjoy football. We don't have any doubt, as he is so good, that he is going to be an important player for Chelsea.' Chelsea, who gave a debut to new signing Joao Pedro off the bench in the second half, will now play another Brazilian side in Fluminense in New York on Tuesday for a place in the final. Maresca felt his side had come through a tough game. The Italian said: 'The first half was very good and we finished very good but the first 15-20 minutes of the second half we struggled. 'But it is normal. At this stage of the season, the energy levels from South America teams are a bit different compared to us. Overall we did very well with that.' Estevao, who swapped shirts with Palmer at the end of the game, paid tribute to the club he is leaving. The teenager said: 'I'm very happy I could score a goal to help my club. Unfortunately this wasn't the result we wanted but we gave our best on the pitch and now I am moving on and I thank Palmeiras for everything. 'What my father says is he wants me to give my best on the pitch and this is what I did. I did everything I could to score a goal but we cannot win every day. 'Now I move on I will cheer Palmeiras on and I am so happy to have been part of this club. Palmeiras opened the door for me and I am deeply thankful to them all.'
