A fair start at the box office
As per early box office estimates reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Maalik' earned about Rs 3.35 crore on its first day. This is a moderate opening, not a massive one, but still a solid start for a gangster drama.
The film's occupancy on Friday stood at 12.86%. Morning shows saw only 6.65%, which slowly grew to 11.12% in the afternoon and 11.78% by evening. Night shows performed the best with 21.88% occupancy, showing that more people came out to watch it later in the day.
Tough competition at the theatres
'Maalik' faced heavy competition from other films already playing in cinemas.
's 'Sitaare Zameen Par', 'Metro In Dino', 'Jurassic World', and 'F1' were all still drawing crowds. On top of that, many new films also released, giving viewers plenty of choices and splitting the collections. In Bollywood, Shanaya Kapoor made her debut opposite Vikrant Massey in 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan', which released on the same day along with the superhero film 'Superman'.
Better than some, behind others
Though 'Maalik' didn't have a huge opening, it still did better than some of the other new releases. As per early estimates by Sacnilk, Shanaya Kapoor's debut film collected just Rs 0.35 crore (35 lakhs) on day one. However, the Hollywood superhero film 'Superman', starring
, raced ahead with around Rs 7 crore.
'Maalik' movie review
The Times of India review gave 'Maalik' 2 stars. An excerpt from the review says, 'There's no substantial plot beyond one gangbanger or the other trying to bring him down.

This includes MLA Balhar (Swanand Kirkire), who ropes in a suspended SP from Kolkata, Prabhu Das (Prosenjit Chatterjee), to arrest Maalik. His mentor, Shankar Singh (Saurabh Shukla), and rival, Chandrashekhar (Saurabh Sachdeva), also turn against him.
The film simply drags on as each tries to eliminate him, and he defeats them one by one. As the viewer begins to lose track of who's chasing him and when, the plot devolves into relentless shootouts that quickly become tedious.
The narrative briefly gains momentum in the second half, and some of the action sequences are shot with finesse, especially the climax.'
The review also says,'Although the lack of a compelling plotline makes the viewing experience cumbersome, the film maintains an even pace. A major betrayal toward the end, however, renders the story trite. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan's cinematography and Ketan Sodha's background score lend some polish to the overall narrative. Rajkummar Rao delivers a strong performance. He strikes a balance between being a dreaded gangster and a caring family man.

Box Office: Maalik sees a nominal jump on Saturday; Rajkummar Rao starrer collects Rs 4.85 crore on Day 2

Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar's Maalik, directed by Pulkit, added Rs 4.75 - 5 crore net in India on day 2, after a low Rs 3.50 crore net on day 1. The growth in collections from Friday is a mediocre 35 percent. With a better day 1, this growth percentage would not be judged as critically as it is being judged in this scenario. The two day collections of Maalik stand at Rs 8.35 crore and the weekend numbers should be around Rs 13.50 crore net or so. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of Maalik Are As Under Maalik's Collections So Far Are Not Particularly Bad But... Maalik's collections so far are not particularly bad if you see it as a typical Rajkummar Rao starrer with movie collections capped at Rs 50 crore net in India, and not a movie by an actor part of a recent blockbuster like Stree 2. Since this movie was announced after the mega success of Stree 2, it is safe to assume that the actor would have marked up his fee for this one and the producers would have agreed to that demand as well; Making it a classic case of misjudgement by the makers of the film. Maalik Looks To Get A Rs 15 Crore Global Theatrical Share If Maalik holds up over the weekdays, it can leg to Rs 30 crore, else it will finish with numbers in the vicinity of Rs 25 crore. With not much coming from overseas, a Rs 15 crore theatrical share is what the film is expected to get. In our analysis of Maalik's Economics, we came to a deduction that the movie requires Rs 23 crore as theatrical share to ensure no one loses money. Given the film's current trajectory, the producers are staring at a Rs 8-10 crore loss. With a better financial planning, and by being a little cautious of the star remunerations, these losses could have been mitigated. Maalik In Theatres

Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Day 23: Aamir Khan's film rebounds slightly on Saturday, mints THIS amount so far

Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection Day 23: The Aamir Khan-starrer sports drama has slowed as it enters its fourth week of release. The film's collection dropped nearly 59.25% by the end of the third week. However, the film has rebounded a little on Saturday, marking the highest earnings since Monday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Sitaare Zammen Par earned ₹ ₹ 155.25 crore after 22 days of release. On Saturday, Day 23, the film earned ₹ 2.16 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. On Friday, Day 22, Sitaare Zameen Par minted ₹ 90 lakhs. The Aamir Khan starrer film opened to ₹ 10.7 crore. The total collection of the film now stands at ₹ 157.41 crore. Sitaare Zameen Par faces stiff competition from Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino and two Hollywood blockbusters, such as Jurassic World Rebirth and Brad Pitt's F1. All these films aim at the urban audience. The sports drama film is directed by RS Prasanna. Apart from Aamir Khan, it also stars Genelia D'Souza in the lead. Ten neurodivergent actors including Aroush Datta as Satbir, Gopi Krishnan Varma as Guddu, Vedant Sharmaa as Bantu, Naman Misra as Hargovind, Rishi Shahani as Sharmaji, Rishabh Jain as Raju, Ashish Pendse as Sunil Gupta, Samvit Desai as Karim Qureshi, Simran Mangeshkar as Golu Khan and Aayush Bhansali as Lotus have marked their debut with Sitaare Zameen Par. The film is a Bollywood adaptation of the 2018 Spanish movie Champions. It focuses on a suspended basketball coach (played by Aamir Khan) who is required to do community service by aiding a team of players with disabilities to prepare for a tournament. Aamir Khan reportedly has a unique approach for Sitaare Zameen Par. Rather than selling the streaming rights to a major OTT platform, he is likely to release the film on YouTube for a pay-per-view fee. Trade analyst Komal Nahta stated that the actor is opposing the prevailing practice of early digital releases in an effort to revive the theatre-going culture in India. However, it remains to be seen how Aamir's 'no OTT' policy will fare for Sitaare Zameen Par.

Box Office: Lights out for Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan on Saturday; Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor starrer is a theatrical dud

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh and starring Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey among others, didn't trouble the trackers much, as it continued putting up poor numbers at the box office on day 2. After a Rs 25 lakh net Friday start, it added roughly Rs 40 lakh on Saturday, for a two day cume of Rs 65 lakh. The film heads for a Rs 1-1.10 crore net weekend and it is sadly going nowhere from here. The Day Wise India Net Collections Of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Are As Under Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Is A Limited Appealing Film; However It Should Have Opened Much Better Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan sure is a limited appealing romantic drama. However, it should have taken a much better start and then doubled on Saturday, to be in a better position. Just recently, Vikrant Massey's 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report opened to better numbers and even registered higher growth on Saturday, than this new romantic drama co-starring Shanaya Kapoor. With stiff new competition in the form of Saiyaara next week, which caters to the same segment of audience, there isn't much that this movie will be able to add after week 1. The Theatrical Share Of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Shall Barely Be Rs 1-1.5 Crore Net The theatrical share of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan won't even help recover the print and publicity expenses of the film. The print and publicity expenses of Rs 6-8 crore, dwarf the near Rs 1-1.50 crore net that the movie will earn back as theatrical share. In other words, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan would have been better off without a theatrical release. A direct digital release could have perhaps served it well in terms of reaching out to its target audience, that doesn't find it necessary to spend 500 rupees a person for a kind of content that doesn't justify the big screen experience. Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan In Theatres Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan plays in theatres now. You can book your tickets for the movie from the box office, or from online ticketing applications.
