Bengaluru College Student Alleges Rape, Blackmail, Threats; 2 Lecturers Among 3 Arrested

One of the accused allegedly contacted the female student, threatening her by claiming he had CCTV footage of her being raped.
The country is still reeling from the shock of the Balasore incident, where a female student from the FM college died after she self-immolated after no action was taken against the professor who allegedly harassed her. Another disturbing incident has now emerged from a college in Karnataka where three people have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a college student, including two lecturers.
In Bengaluru, three individuals from a reputed institution in Moodabidri, including two lecturers, have been apprehended on accusations of repeatedly raping a female student. The Marathahalli police made the arrests following a complaint filed by the victim with the Women's Commission, which subsequently directed her to the police.
The accused are identified as Narendra, a Physics lecturer, Sandeep, a Biology lecturer, and Anoop, a friend of the lecturers.
According to the complaint, Narendra initially contacted the student under the guise of providing academic notes and assistance. He gradually developed a rapport through chatting, eventually taking her to his friend Anoop's room in Marathahalli, Bengaluru, where he allegedly raped her and threatened her to keep silent about the incident.
A few days later, Sandeep, the Biology lecturer, allegedly attempted to assault the student as well. When she resisted, he reportedly blackmailed her, claiming he had photos and videos of her with Narendra. Fearing the consequences, the victim was allegedly raped by Sandeep too.
The room where the assault allegedly occurred belonged to Anoop.
Following these traumatic events, the student confided in her parents, who approached the Women's Commission. This led to the registration of a case at the Marathahalli police station and the subsequent arrests.

Woman kills brother after he tests HIV positive

Chitradurga (Karnataka), Jul 28 (PTI) A 23-year-old man was strangled to death allegedly by his sister and brother-in-law to 'protect family's honour" after she discovered that he was HIV positive, police said on Monday. The victim, who hailed from a village in Holalkere taluk of this district, met with an accident recently. He was taken to a hospital and during a blood test, the doctors discovered that he was HIV positive, they said. The woman has been arrested, police said, adding efforts are being taken to nab her husband, who is still at large. During interrogation, the woman told police that on July 25, she strangled her brother to death using her veil with the help of her husband after she learnt that he was HIV positive, a senior police officer said. She feared that if someone got to know that her brother was HIV positive, her family would be shamed and may be boycotted by relatives and villagers. It also worried her that the infection could potentially infect their parents as well, who already suffered from BP and sugar-related health issues, he said. The woman further claimed that her brother was also under heavy debt, he added. According to police, when the victim was being treated at a private hospital in Davangere for accident related complications and during routine blood tests before the surgery, the doctors discovered that he was HIV positive and informed his sister. The hospital authorities then advised them to get him treated at another hospital. Later, on the pretext of getting her brother treated at a hospital in Bengaluru, she, along with her husband, took him with them. She allegedly strangled her brother to death with the help of her husband and returned with his body, claiming that he died on the way to Bengaluru, the police officer said. However, noticing suspicious marks around his neck during the cremation, the villagers alerted his family and she confessed her crime to her father, he said. Following this, her father lodged a complaint at Holalkere police station and a case of murder was registered, police said. Nimisha Priya's Death Sentence Overturned, Says ‘Grand Mufti Of India' Musliyar's Office

Last Updated: Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been overturned, as confirmed by Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar's office. In a major development in the Nimisha Priya case, her death sentence has now been completely overturned, according to a statement from the office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar. However, the office added that it has yet to receive official written communication from Yemeni authorities. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting in Sanaa, Yemen, where senior Yemeni scholars — appointed by Sheikh Umar Hafeel Thangal at the request of the Indian Grand Mufti — mediated with the rulers of Northern Yemen and international diplomats. The meeting concluded with the complete cancellation of the death sentence, which had earlier been scheduled for execution on July 16 but was temporarily suspended. According to Musliyar's office, some key decisions regarding the case have been made, though further deliberations are expected. Remaining matters — including a resolution with the family of the murdered Yemeni national, Talal — will be finalised through continued discussions. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 23:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Delta Pilot Pulled From Cockpit, Arrested by ICE Moments After Landing In San Francisco

Last Updated: A Delta Airlines pilot was arrested on child porn charges after landing in San Francisco from Minneapolis. Passengers and crew were shocked as officers stormed the cockpit. In an unexpected turn of events, a Delta Airlines pilot was arrested and hauled off a flight by federal agents moments after the flight from Minneapolis landed in San Francisco. The incident took place on Delta Flight 2809 (Minneapolis-San Francisco) on Saturday at around 9:30 pm (local time) when the aircraft landed and the passengers were preparing to deplane, New York Post reported. As per the passengers, as soon as the aircraft landed, a group of approximately 10 officers boarded the plane and arrested one of its copilots. He was then handcuffed and led away through the cabin doors located between first and coach of the Boeing aircraft, with some of the agents being identified as Homeland Security investigators, the report added. Soon, another set of agents re-entered the cockpit to gather the arrested man's belongings. A video showing the pilot being taken away from the cockpit is doing the rounds on social media. A passenger onboard told travel outlet View from the Wing that the officers 'stormed" the cockpit. They reportedly took the pilot away to the confusion of everyone. Even the cabin crew were kept in the dark about the incident and the other pilot reportedly told the fliers he had 'no idea about what just happened". 'I looked at him and I said, 'What's going on?' He said, 'I have no idea,'" he said, adding, 'And he genuinely looked like this was a surprise that all of a sudden there was people on the plane because he had had us stand up, we were starting to take our stuff out for arrival and everybody was already in the overhead bins." A passenger recounted to Fox 9 that they were told by authorities to remain in their seats as they made their way through the first class and into the cockpit. Another passenger, recounting the arrest, told San Francisco Chronicle, 'A group of people with badges, guns, and different agency vests/markings were pushing their way up through the aisle to the cockpit. It was rage-inducing to see someone being disappeared right in front of me." The accused pilot, whose name was not released, was reportedly wanted on child porn charges, Fox News reported. However, authorities are yet to release the name of the pilot. Neither Delta nor Homeland have commented on the arrest. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
