'I'm a social media guru - here are my top tips to avoid doom scrolling all day'

Daily Mirror13 hours ago
Eknoor Soni and his brother Arsh have millions of followers on the likes of YouTube, Snapchat and other apps, but the siblings, from London, recognise the pitfalls of technology
A social media expert who helps manage influencers who get over 100 million views a month has shared his top five tips to stop wasting hours of your day doom scrolling. Eknoor Soni, 21, has been obsessed with social media since he was 16 and has gained millions of views with his older brother Arsh, 28. The University of London business graduate has since set up an agency that manages the Snapchat accounts of creators including YouTubers Jake Sweet (12.9 million subscribers) and Jamie Nyland (15.6m subscribers). And while creating and helping others create content is his passion, he also believes that people can spend too much time on it. He said: "Social media has been designed to keep you hooked and trapped on your phone. 'The rise of short form content from platforms like TikTok has kept people, including many from younger generations, glued to their phone watching an infinite amount of videos without realising hours have passed. 'While there's nothing wrong with watching some videos, if it's sapping your productivity so much that you're not getting things done you should address that sooner rather than later. 'I wouldn't recommend going cold turkey and completely cutting yourself off, but if you think your social media usage is too much I'd recommend following some of the following tips to reduce it to more manageable levels.'

Here are Eknoor's top five tips:
Use social media for a purpose: One of the first ways to avoid wasting time on social media is to use it with intention. For example, if you are focusing on the gym and have a goal to build bigger muscles, then use platforms like TikTok to tailor your algorithm to only provide you with gym content. You can simply tailor your algorithm by liking, commenting, sharing and engaging with gym content which results in TikTok showing you similar content. Suddenly, the for you page becomes a free personal trainer instead of a distraction allowing you to reach your goals and benefit from social media.

Clean up your social media feed: A simple way to do this is when you see content you don't like or want to see then you can press on the video and an option will pop up saying 'Don't recommend me this content'. This will let the platform know not to show you this content allowing you to focus on only watching valuable content that doesn't drain your energy or waste your time.
Create content: One of the best ways to stop wasting time on social media is to flip the script, so instead of just consuming content, start creating instead. Rather than doom-scrolling, use that time to make content. So many people have built careers simply by documenting their lives, sharing their favourite food spots, or showing their personality online. Short-form content has levelled the playing field allowing people to get millions of views on the first video they have posted. If you're already spending hours on these apps, why not use that time to build something, make money and provide value.
Turn off notifications: Social media apps are constantly pining you with likes, tags, stories and random updates to get you back on the app to consume content. By turning off everything except the essentials, you'll reduce distractions and be able to focus on the things you are actively doing. The less you are interrupted by valueless notifications the more you can focus on things that actually matter.
Set time limits: This is one of the most effective ways to stop wasting hours on social media as most phones allow you to set daily screen time caps. This means if you cap yourself to one hour of social media scrolling a day it can help you become aware of how much time you are spending and how fast it goes. Once you hit the time limit, treat it as a signal to log off and do something productive. This way you can create healthy boundaries so social media works for you, not the other way round

Private investigator reveals the secret code cheaters are using to hide affairs & the emojis YOU need to look for

The croissant emoji may look harmless but it could actually be concealing some untoward extra-martial activity SNARE AN AFFAIR Private investigator reveals the secret code cheaters are using to hide affairs & the emojis YOU need to look for THE Coldplay kiss-cam scandal - which saw a married boss and his alleged mistress caught in an embrace on the big screen - has become a global talking point. But, while the story went viral, there may be a far less public and more discreet way to spot your partner is cheating. Advertisement 3 If you spot your partner using a series of specific emojis, it could be a sign they are playing away (Stock pic) Credit: Getty A top private investigator told Fabulous the secret code cheaters are using to hide affairs on their phones. While some go to extreme lengths to cover their tracks, others are using something far more subtle: emojis. According to Paul Jones from ARF Private Investigators, apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat have become a hotbed for hidden relationships, with secret codes, archived chats and sneaky symbols replacing the traditional love letter. People often think of cheating as something obvious such as flirty photos, late nights or secret calls. Advertisement SNEAKY SYMBOLS But Paul says many of the cases he works on start with something as small as a random emoji. He told us: 'Over the past year we've seen an increase in people using everyday symbols as a way to communicate without getting caught. 'On the surface, it might look innocent, but there's usually a deeper meaning.' One of the most common signs? A flurry of harmless-looking messages with the croissant or padlock emojis. If these symbols are in your partner's most-used emojis - found by clicking the emoji icon on the keyboard when typing a message - it could be an indicator they are being used for an affair. Advertisement These symbols may mean nothing to you, but to someone cheating, they are code for dinners, hookups, or secret messages. Coldplay fan who filmed CEO 'cheating' with HR chief at gig takes swipe at couple Paul added: 'We've had people using a croissant emoji as a way of saying 'meet me for breakfast', or the letter emoji as a subtle 'text me when you're free'. 'It's like their own language, one that their partner isn't meant to understand.' EMOJIS TO SPOT Here are just a few examples Paul has seen used in real cases… 3 The emojis that could be a sign your partner is unfaithful Advertisement The private investigator added: 'Used once or twice they don't mean much. 'But when you see them appearing regularly in chats with the same person, especially late at night, they start to mean something more.' WARNING SIGNS So what phone habits should you look out for with your partner? Paul continued: 'Start with your gut. 'If your partner suddenly starts hiding their phone, keeping conversations short, or you notice new contacts with strange names or emojis, that's when you should start asking questions.' Advertisement There are other ways to find out your partner is having an affair - Carla Bellucci had a decade-long affair with her now husband Gio, and she text Gio's ex evidence of their relationship. I won big on the lottery and I'm sick of hate from jealous men – I earned this cash, they need to get over it

A LOTTO winner has hit back at bitter trolls who have tried to mock her appearance and windfall - insisting she's "earned" her new life. Olivia Love, who was previously on Universal Credit, scooped £10,000-a-month for a year alongside hubby Kevin last month. 2 Olivia Love won big on the lottery in June Credit: TikTok/@mrsolivialove 2 She's been trolled over her £10,000-a-month for a year prize Credit: ALAN PEEBLES PHOTOGRAPHY The 36-year-old, from Glasgow, has been able to quit her job at a local supermarket, and hire a cleaner and gardener. Thanks to her massive tax-free win, she's also launched her own business as a wedding content creator. Before this, the mum-of-four was earning just £800-a-month working in a supermarket's customer service kiosk. She was on benefits to subsidise her eye-watering £1,800-a-month childcare costs and "dreaded" her council tax bill coming through. Since going public with her win, Olivia has been giving social media users an inside peek at the life of a lottery winner. She's been branded "embarrassing" and cruelly body shamed over her videos, with trolls even hoping she's left jobless and without a penny at the end of her 12-month windfall. And she revealed it's mostly hateful men who resent her big win. In a TikTok clip (@mrsolivialove), she said: "When I won the lottery, I knew it would change my life. But I didn't expect how loud the internet would get. "With the win came judgement, assumptions and a lot of hate. Especially from men who can't stand to see a woman win. "Just for being proud of my life. For spreading hope and positivity. For being proud of what this win does for my children. EXCL Woman who dumped boyfriend after winning £1m scratchcard jackpot splashes cash with NEW man - while leaving ex with nothing "Almost every hateful comment I get comes from men. When a woman is confident, when she shares her success, some men can't handle it. If a man posted this win, would you call him embarrassing? Or would it be inspiring?" But the proud mum has refused to let the trolls get to her or stop her from sharing her lotto life. She insisted: "I'm not here to be small, quiet or even easy to digest. I'm here because I earned this. "If that makes you uncomfortable, that's not my problem. "[And] there are women out here choosing love. Choosing celebration. Choosing to lift each other up. "These are the voices I hear loudest. This is the energy I'm listening to. "The ones who said you deserve it. The ones that laughed with me when the trolls came. The ones that reminded me that my win isn't just about money. It's about joy and freedom and sharing moments that matter. "Thank you to every kind woman that showed up." LIFE-CHANGING MOMENT Set For Life offers a top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years when the five main numbers and the Life Ball are matched. Players can also win £10,000 a month for a whole year by matching the five main numbers. Olivia revealed she did six lucky dips at £1.50 each on the app, with one of them bagging the second tier prize of the cash for a year. She's never played her own numbers, explaining: 'I've always had the fear that if you did play your own numbers the one time you didn't play it, that would be the time your numbers came in.' She was shocked when she received an email from The National Lottery team at 12.33am on May 16 June that changed everything for this couple. The winning numbers in the draw were: 03, 27, 42, 45, 46, plus Life Ball 06. Before she won, she had been playing sporadically for four to five months and would play when she had the 'notion to do it.' And despite winning, she still hasn't stopped buying lucky dips 'from time to time.' DOWNSIDE While buying items like her hubby's car has brought her 'so much joy', there are some downsides to the winnings. Olivia has had people message her to beg for money, with one saying: 'Can I have like £20,000 to pay my debts off?' As a result, the Lottery winner said: "I've got my dms very closed.' Since going public with her win, Olivia has hilariously joked about wiping away fake tears with £20 notes in response to cruel comments from trolls. However, she said it has changed her life for the better, saying: 'I feel like I can be more present now. Enjoy more moments. 'The stress I felt before stopped me enjoying the little things.'

The cosmetic powerhouse has introduced a Beauty Playground to its Braehead store. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 New and viral brands are now in store 4 Superdrug bosses hope people will love seeing all the lines in person 4 There's a play table to test all the products Launched first in London's Westfield Stratford store earlier this month, it brings some of the most sought-after, viral and exciting up-and-coming brands that have previously only been available online, into the shop. And it means customers can smell, try and fall in love with some amazing lines, such as Dhelicious and Mallows Beauty. Even Gen Alpha beauty fans can pick up a bargain, with the Daise range starting from £2.50 for a pretty flower lip balm. As well as exploring must-have brands, shoppers will also be able to access beauty services, receive expert advice and create content while they shop. We spoke to Simon Comins, Superdrug's Chief Operating Officer, at last night's launch in the Glasgow store. He said there will be more testers in Beauty Playground than anywhere else, so customers can really play with the products. And he added: " The whole idea of Beauty Playground is that we're trying to create, in this aisle, a combination of new brands and brands that we have in the store that are cosmetics and that skincare customers buy, but if they don't go down the oral care aisle, they might not find, like High Smile. "So we have High Smile in here, Starface, we put a serum stand in. It's just to bring that whole beauty immersion together." One of the most fun new additions to the store is the 'Try Me Table' where customers can play, test and experiment with the latest products. And they have included social stations, complete with ring lights and smartphone attachments, for the creation of high-quality beauty content. Make-up fans race to snap up £5 Superdrug dupe of viral Huda powder, and save themselves £30 in the process Simon said: "We have a 40 per cent market share on make-up. The amount of people that come in, sit down and understand the product. They want to test the foundation. They want to test their lipstick shade. And we've never had a facility like it. "We've opened one up in the Stratford store and it's one of the busiest areas because people are just engaging so much with it." To launch Beauty Playground, Superdrug is partnering with a string of innovative new and exclusive brands, including the Korean inspired and TikTok famous Smuuti. Simon said: 'The beauty shopper is crying out for immersive beauty experiences, but often they find that what they encounter is either temporary or not keeping pace with the latest innovations the industry has to offer. "With Beauty Playground, we're reimagining what a joyful and innovative beauty experience could and should be, whilst offering a space where customers can discover, learn, experiment, create, and connect with brands and services that meet their unique needs. "But most of all, at Superdrug we believe beauty should be fun, so we can't wait to welcome customers to their nearest Beauty Playground store, where they can experience and enjoy Superdrug like never before.'
