Calgary prospect Andrew Basha and his Medicine Hat Tigers did not reach the promise land of Canadian junior hockey as they were beaten 4-1 by the OHL champions London Knights in the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday evening.

The 19-year-old forward put up passes and created scoring chances, but none could be finished into the back of the net.
He tried to get something going during his shift in Medicine Hat's first and most promising-looking power play, but that too faltered.
The Calgary native will end his Memorial Cup campaign with one assist.
Two days ago, the Knights knocked out fellow Flames prospect Etienne Morin and the QMJHL champions Moncton Wildcats.
It was reported from Logan Gordon that Flames assistant GM Brad Pascall plans on having Morin on the Flames' AHL affiliate team, the Wranglers next season. Similar plans are being discussed for Basha.

Three people trapped in B.C.'s Red Chris mine, Premier David Eby says
HUNTSVILLE, ONT. — Three miners have been trapped underground at British Columbia's Red Chris copper and gold mine. B.C. Premier David Eby released the news at the end of the premiers' gathering in Ontario. Eby said to the best of the government's knowledge the workers are uninjured and in a refuge area at the mine in B.C.'s northern Interior. The premier said they are in contact with the mine's owner which is working with world-leading mining rescue experts. "B.C. miners are the best in the world. Our rescue teams are exceptional, and they will be working overtime to bring these workers home safely to their families," he said. He said two of the workers are from B.C. and another is from Ontario. Eby said he had spoken to Ontario Premier Doug Ford about the situation and was keeping his government up to date. "Obviously it's very concerning for the families, for the workers in the sector and British Columbians and Canadians and our thoughts are with the families and appreciation with the incredibly brave rescue teams that are working right now," he said. Eby said that the accident happened overnight, but a spokesman for the premier later clarified that it occurred earlier Tuesday. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 23, 2025. Report: Nick Robertson's Arbitration Hearing Date With Maple Leafs Revealed
There's a date for restricted free agent Nick Robertson's arbitration hearing with the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to the 23-year-old's hearing date is set for August 3, though there's always the chance that he and the Maple Leafs agree on a number before they reach arbitration. Robertson was extended a qualifying offer by Toronto, allowing the club to retain his rights entering the offseason, before filing for arbitration on July 5. Robertson is coming off a career year for goals with 15, plus seven assists for 22 points in 69 games this season. It was also a career year for games played, however, the forward lost out on a lineup spot once the playoffs rolled around. He appeared in three games with Toronto in the postseason, registering a goal and an assist in that span, against the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers. It's now over a year since Robertson reportedly requested a trade out of Toronto before signing a one-year, $875,000 contract with the team on September 10. You'll Need Prime Video To Watch These 6 Key Maple Leafs Games in 2025-26 Amazon's streaming service, Prime Video, has released its upcoming schedule of games for the 2025-26 season, which will exclusively feature six Toronto Maple Leafs games for the second consecutive year. "I think Nick is a good player," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said in June. "He's still a young player, he's still an evolving player, but he's got a skill set, and he shoots it in the net. That's a good skill set to have." With Toronto's increased depth, it'll still be difficult for Robertson to crack the Maple Leafs' lineup consistently next season. The club added Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua this summer via trades, while losing Mitch Marner, Pontus Holmberg, and potentially Max Pacioretty. However, the Maple Leafs can use his scoring touch within their bottom six. In 156 career games with Toronto, Robertson has 56 points (32 goals and 24 assists), while averaging just over 11.5 minutes per game. 'Always Working His Ass Off': Sharks' Ryan Reaves Praises Auston Matthews After First Year As Maple Leafs Captain Auston Matthews might have had a down year with goalscoring, but there was growth in other facets of his game. The last Maple Leafs player to opt for arbitration was former Toronto forward Connor Dewar. The NHLPA revealed on July 4, 2024, that he elected for salary arbitration. Dewar and the Maple Leafs agreed to a one-year, $1.18 million contract 19 days later, on July 23. Other RFAs who've elected for arbitration this summer include Chicago Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom (July 28), New York Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov (July 29), Winnipeg Jets' Dylan Samberg (July 30), Buffalo Sabres' Conor Timmins (August 2), and Montreal Canadiens' Jayden Struble (August 3). Blue Jays predicted to swing blockbuster trade for Diamondbacks' $13.5M All-Star
The Toronto Blue Jays have momentum on their side, but they've got to sustain that momentum through the trade deadline. Thanks to Monday night's 4-1 win, the Blue Jays have now built a four-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East. But they know the Yankees, last year's World Series runners-up, will be gunning for deadline improvements. For Toronto, one more starting pitcher could be the key to usurping the Yankees' division title. And the market for rentals seems to be heating up. Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks is an intriguing fit, because he's a proven All-Star pitcher having a dismal season. But the talent is still there, and perhaps a new team could help turn his year around. On Monday, Steve Perrault of Underdog Fantasy predicted that the Blue Jays would land Gallen at the deadline during a live stream for Bleacher Report. "We've got Zac Gallen going to the Blue Jays," Perrault said. "I can already see him wearing a Jays jersey. I can just picture it. In big games, important games, I can see Zac Gallen in Toronto dealing. Follow The Sporting News On WhatsApp "If you put Zac Gallen in there, ... this is a really good rotation, especially in the American League. You can put this up against other rotations in the AL. Would not be super worried if you're a Blue Jays fan." Gallen's ERA climbed to 5.58 in a loss to the Houston Astros on Monday night, the worst among all qualified starters. He also allowed two more home runs, bringing his National League-leading total to 23. It would be a leap of faith for the Blue Jays to trust Gallen to pitch like his 2023-2024 self the rest of the way. But because their rotation is one good arm away from being elite, that leap of faith might come with a huge payout.
