Saham stun Al Khabourah in last 16 of OL
Saham secured an exciting 3-2 victory over Al Khabourah on Saturday at Al Rustaq Sports Complex as part of the 16th round of the Oman Football League.
The game started cautiously from both teams, the first chance was in the 6th minute for Saham's Ali al Hashmi, but he failed to capitalise. Al Khabourah responded with attacking pressure, as Bashar al Balushi fired a powerful shot in the 13th minute, brilliantly saved by Saham's goalkeeper. Yusuf Bouabid nearly opened the scoring for Saham in the 15th minute, but his shot narrowly missed the right post.
Saham's goalkeeper made a crucial save against a dangerous shot from Joen Karl, while Omar Prince wasted a golden opportunity for Saham with a weak attempt in the 19th minute. The attacking pressure was tie to end first half in a goalless draw.
The second half kicked off with a higher tempo, as Al Khabourah took the lead in the 53rd minute through Ahmed al Riyami, who capitalised on defensive confusion inside the box. However, Saham responded quickly, earning a penalty that was successfully converted by Algerian Rashid Aït in the 57th minute, bringing the game back to level terms.
Saham continued pressing and managed to take the lead in the 62nd minute through Adeniji. Al Khabourah intensified their attacks, attempting to break through the wings and central areas, but Saham's goalkeeper, Hassan al Buraiki, showcased brilliant saves, especially in the final minutes.
As stoppage time began, Adeniji struck again in the 93rd minute, finishing off a swift counterattack to extend Saham's lead. Al Khabourah's Mohamed Lamine managed to reduce the deficit in the 95th minute, but it was too late to change the outcome, as Saham secured a valuable 3-2 win.
With this victory, Saham climbed to 20 points, advancing to sixth place on goal difference ahead of Al Nasr, who sits in fifth. Meanwhile, Al Khabourah remained at 21 points, holding onto fourth place without change.

Al Balushi named as Indoor handball team coach
MUSCAT, JULY 13 MUSCAT:The Oman Handball Association (OHA) announced during a board meeting took place on Sunday and chaired by Chairman Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, appointment of Nabil bin Hassan al Balushi as national head coach of the senior men's indoor handball team. The decision came as part of the Association's preparations for the Asian Men's Handball Championship which is set to be held in Kuwait in January 2026 and will also serve as the qualifier for the 2026 IHF World Championship in Germany. Nabil al Balushi previously served as assistant coach under Algerian Coach Mourad Bouzbet during the 2022 edition of the Asian Championship in Saudi Arabia. His promotion to head coach reflects OHA's strategy to elevate local technical talent and entrust national teams to experienced Omani professionals. The board has also granted Al Balushi the authority to appoint his own assistant coaching staff, providing him with the flexibility to form a strong technical staff capable of leading Oman to success in upcoming regional and international challenges. In addition to the coaching appointment, the OHF announced the following key support roles for the senior team. Anwar bin Mohammed al Balushi named as Director of National Indoor Handball Teams while Ahmed al Jassasi assigned as Team Manager. These appointments aim to ensure a fully integrated and well-structured technical and administrative setup for the national team's upcoming campaigns. The board also confirmed the continuity of the current technical staff for the Oman U-19 Indoor Handball Team, led by head coach Yahya al Maashari and assistant coach Hassan al Maamari. Ahmed al Jassasi will also continue as team manager in this category. This move inline to maintain technical and administrative stability within the youth setup and continue nurturing a competitive generation of players. The team's major upcoming assignment is participation in the third Asian Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Bahrain from October 22 to 31.

Seeb crowned champion of Oman Professional League 2024-25
Muscat: Al-Seeb Club celebrated its Oman Professional League title victory for the 2024/2025 season following its final-round match against Al-Nasr, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Al-Seeb had already secured the championship in the previous round after defeating Al-Rustaq 1-0, maintaining a six-point lead over Al-Nahda, the second-place team. The final round also saw Saham defeat Sur 2-1, Bahla edge past Al-Shabab 4-3, Sohar win against Oman Club 2-0, Al-Nahda beat Al-Rustaq 2-0, and Al-Khaboura triumph over Ibri 1-0. At the conclusion of the league, Al-Seeb finished first with 51 points, followed by Al-Nahda with 47 points, and Oman Club in third place with 39 points. Al-Khaboura secured fourth place with 31 points. Meanwhile, Ibri was officially relegated to the First Division League, having ended the season with 20 points, joining Sur, which also failed to secure enough results to remain in the top tier.

Oman win 5 medals at Arab Athletics in Algeria
Muscat, May 5 The Oman national athletics team delivered an outstanding performance at the 24th Arab Senior Athletics Championship, held in Oran, Algeria, from April 30 to May 4. The team clinched a total of five medals, three silver and two bronze. The event brought together some of the top Arab athletes in the region. Sprinter Ali bin Anwar al Balushi emerged as one of the standout stars of the delegation, winning two silver medals in the 100 metres (10.21 seconds) and 200 metres, clocking a new personal best of 20.7 seconds. Fellow Omani runner Mulhim bin Darwish al Balushi also made his mark by winning a bronze medal in the 100 metres with a time of 10.36 seconds. In the men's high jump, Fatik bin Abdulghafoor Sanjour secured a silver with a leap of 2.14 metres, tying with his Qatari counterpart but claiming second place due to more failed attempts. Meanwhile, Alya bint Faiq al Mughairiyah earned a bronze medal in the women's high jump, clearing 1.71 metres, underscoring the growing presence and performance of Omani women in athletics. The national team delegation included a group of athletes who participated in various races and competitions. He praised the athletes' performance, highlighting the five medals won as a reflection of the serious preparation and high-quality training programmes the team underwent.
