Big Brother and I'm A Celeb star dies aged 60 as fans pay tribute

German reality TV star Nadja Abd el Farrag, who is best known by her stage name Naddel, has died at the age of 60 - with the star's fans paying emotional trfbutes
German singer and actress Naddel, whose real name was Nadja Abd el Farrag, has died aged 60 from organ failure. The TV star was best known for her appearances on the German versions of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Big Brother.
Naddel died at a Hamburg clinic on May 9 and mourners have since taken to social media to pay their respects. One fan wrote: "Rest in peace, Nadja #naddel #RIP In my youth, you dominated the daily news about high society. Then came a rapid rollercoaster ride with ups and downs. Passing away at 60 is a truly tragic thing! She had to go through a lot in her much too short life - R.I.P. 'Naddel'."

"#NadjaAbdelFarrag You were fun, but it (life) wasn't all easy. #RIP #Nadja," another stated in tribute.
A third follower reflected: "Nadja Abd el Farrag died at the age of 60. Far too early. #RIP #Naddel," reports the Express.
And finally, a fourth said: "Nadja Abd el Farrag has died. Also known as Naddel. Another former Jungle Camp participant is no more. #ibes #naddel #RIP," noting her reality TV past.
Famed not only for her extensive career but for her high-profile relationship with music legend Dieter Bohlen, one half of the iconic pop duo Modern Talking, she had shared her life with him from 1989 to 1996 and then again from 1997 to 2001. An emotional Bohlen marked her death by posting a video of the two onstage with a simple yet profound caption: "I am very sad. Rest in peace Nadja".
Naddel hailed from Hamburg, born to a Sudanese father, Ibrahim, and a German mother, Uta. Through various interviews, she's shared that her father was quite strict, leading to their estrangement for the last 15 years preceding his passing.
Before stepping into the limelight, she completed an apprenticeship as a chemist's assistant and worked in retail.

Her life took a turn in 1989 when she crossed paths with Dieter and joined his Blue System project as a background singer. She managed to balance her music commitments with a part-time job in a hospice during this period.
Nadja made waves in 1999 with two photoshoots for Playboy, and in the 2000s she gained fame as presenter of the RTL2 show Peep and as a contestant on the first series of the German I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in 2004.
The subsequent 15 years for Nadja were marred by health crises and financial struggles. In 2018 she disclosed in her autobiography Achterbahn that she had been battling cirrhosis of the liver, attributable not only to her substance misuse but also to medication for ADHD.

Despite stark medical advice, quitting alcohol proved too challenging for Nadja. "I only half-heartedly accepted the doctor's advice and reduced my consumption to one or two glasses of wine a week," she conceded in her memoir.
Just before reaching her 60th milestone on March 5, this year, she opened up about the shaky state of her finances: "I only receive a pension of €200," she confessed. Despite seeking guidance from a debt advisor, she achieved only modest success in bettering her situation.
In an act of goodwill, Hamburg businessman Andreas Ellermann planned a performance at Schlagermove for May 2024 as a means to support her recovery. This event was destined to become her final public engagement. Subsequent to this, she withdrew from the limelight.

Coronation Street Mick actor Joe Layton 'set for Hollywood' after ITV soap exit

Coronation Street actor Joe Layton has played the role of Mick Michaelis on the cobbles since earlier this year but could soon be switching Weatherfield for Hollywood Coronation Street's Joe Layton, known for his role as the menacing Mick Michaelis, could be on the brink of a major Hollywood breakthrough. Joe burst onto the scene earlier this year as the ruthless thug Mick, alongside his partner Lou (Farrel Hegarty). ‌ Labelled as "nightmare neighbours," the pair quickly became notorious for causing chaos. In a shocking turn of events in May, Mick brutally murdered Weatherfield's beloved Craig Tinker ( Colson Smith) in a harrowing alcohol-fuelled attack. ‌ It was then revealed that he also regularly abused Lou adding to the disdain for his character from viewers who were shocked to see how truly evil he was capable of being. After Craig's tragic end, Mick found himself behind bars. However, this week saw an explosive development as he broke free from custody. ‌ In a desperate search for his child, Mick stabbed Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) before being caught again and sent back to prison. Now, with Mick's time on the cobbles drawing to a close, speculation is rife about actor Joe's next move with his frantic on-screen demeanour capturing the imagination of TV fans. Betway has provided odds on his next step that place Joe at a not too shabby 3/1 to hop over to rival soap EastEnders. But that isn't the only soap where he could show up, as Joe is also sitting at 5/1 to land a role on Channel 4's Hollyoaks. ‌ When it comes to reality TV prospects, he's got odds of 8/1 for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and 10/1 for Strictly Come Dancing where fans would get to learn more about him as opposed to his on-screen alter ego Mick. But it's not just small screen opportunities on the horizon for Joe. He could find himself making his way into the cinematic universe too. Bookies are betting that the big screen could come knocking and he might snag a role in a blockbuster Hollywood franchise. Joe currently stands at 16/1 to appear in a Marvel film, and 50/1 to potentially become the next James Bond. ‌ Mike Reading, spokesperson at Betway told the Daily Star: "After playing brutal villain Mick Michaelis on Coronation Street, Joe Layton is now a 3/1 shot to bring his bad-boy energy to EastEnders. "Having made headlines for his character's violent past and dramatic prison escape, Layton looks ready-made for the gritty world of Albert Square – pub bust-ups, family feuds, and a shady market hustle would suit him down to the ground! "Other potential next moves include jetting out to the jungle for I'm a Celeb (8/1), joining Strictly (10/1), or even a Marvel comeback (16/1) after previously starring in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it's East London where punters think he's most likely to land next." Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

BBC Breakfast sparks backlash as fans issue same complaint minutes into live show

BBC Breakfast was back on our screens on Sunday and some viewers were left annoyed just minutes into the show BBC Breakfast sparked backlash as fans issued the same complaint just minutes into Sunday's (July 20) live show. ‌ During today's instalment of the popular morning show, presenters Ben Boulos and Luxmy Gopal updated audiences with the latest developments from Britain and beyond. ‌ Simon King was also present in the studio to provide regular meteorological updates, whilst Hugh Ferris handled the sports coverage. ‌ During the live transmission, Luxmy introduced the weekly Travel Show, which tracks team members on their voyages of exploration as they discover fresh locations across the globe, and reveal lesser-known aspects of some of the planet's most beloved tourist destinations. This week's programme featured Reece Parkinson's expedition across America's Deep South to examine the civil rights movement, reports the Express. ‌ Six decades after the historic march for equal voting rights in Selma, Reece explored how the civil rights movement is commemorated there and what influence it continues to have on African American lives today. In the opening episode of a two-part series, Reece visited Alabama, where he encountered a woman who participated in the 1965 march. He also chatted to a family that was establishing a welcoming environment for visitors exploring the rural areas. Finally, he travelled to Mobile, where he participated in a formerly segregated annual procession that now embraces all communities. ‌ "For many here, the battle is not over. The spirit of Selma lives on," Reece reflected. "As I have found exploring the states of Georgia and Alabama, what happened here in Selma and the wider civil rights movement has had a lasting impact here, shaping the character of both states and passing the torch for future generations to run them." ‌ Yet, viewers were swift to recognise the programme as a repeat from May, sparking widespread irritation across social media platforms. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one frustrated viewer vented: "#BBCBreakfast #BBCNews # BBC why are you showing this episode of the Travel Show AGAIN??? I've lost count how many times this has been on in a row. Please, if you're going to show repeats at least mix them up a bit!" Another disgruntled fan complained: "I had a lie in on purpose," whilst a third expressed their annoyance: "I hate the fact they also show repeat episodes, it's so annoying." Echoing the collective sentiment, a fourth viewer remarked: "Great episode but we don't need to see it again."
