Government likely to clear new 3 air defence missile regiments for army
The QRSAM, with a range of approximately 30 kilometres, is designed to complement existing short-to-medium-range air defence platforms such as the Akash and Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) systems currently in service.The decision comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, during which Indian Army and Air Force air defence units successfully countered Pakistani aircraft, missiles, and drone incursions.During the four-day cross-border firing with Pakistan, the Indian Army's Air Defence units destroyed the majority of the drones using L-70 and Zu-23 air defence guns, along with the Akash, MRSAM, and the Indian Air Force's Spider and Sudarshan S-400 systems.The QRSAM system has undergone extensive trials and demonstrated effective performance in both day and night operational conditions.In addition to the proposed QRSAM acquisition, the Army Air Defence is also enhancing its capabilities with new radars, very short-range air defence systems, jammers, and laser-based technologies to counter aerial threats, including drones of Turkish and Chinese origin.Must Watch

Curtain raiser for Tri-Services Academia Technology Symposium held at Manekshaw Centre
New Delhi (India), July 4 (ANI): The Indian Army conducted a Curtain Raiser event on Friday for the upcoming Tri-Services Academia Technology Symposium at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, the Ministry of Defence said in a release on Friday. The event was conducted in coordination with the Integrated Defence Staff, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. The event formally launched preparations for the main symposium scheduled to be held on 22-23 September 2025. Themed 'Vivek va Anusandhan se Vijay', the initiative aims to deepen collaboration between the Armed Forces and academia for the development of cutting-edge indigenous technologies. The primary objective of the symposium is to develop an integrated perspective for creating a synergised Services - Academia R&D ecosystem. It seeks to identify and harness the scientific potential within academic institutions to meet the niche technological needs of the Indian Armed Forces, thereby contributing to long-term self-reliance in defence capabilities. As part of the Curtain Raiser, a dedicated portal was inaugurated to facilitate participation from academic institutions across the country. The portal allows institutions to register their representatives, who can either attend the symposium as 'Attendees' or submit project proposals and exhibits. Attendees will be able to take part in the various seminars and panel discussions planned for the final event, offering a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Submitted proposals and exhibits will be reviewed by subject matter experts from the respective Defence Services. Shortlisted entries will be invited for one-on-one discussions with services representatives and will be showcased during the exhibition segment of the symposium. The most promising innovations and proposals will be recognised and felicitated during the valedictory session. The Tri-Services Academia Technology Symposium represents a key initiative towards narrowing down the gap between academic research and defence application. It reaffirms the Armed Forces' commitment to nurturing indigenous technological innovation in alignment with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the relase added. (ANI)

'An important lesson is the importance of C4 ISR and civil-military functions. There is a lot to be done as far as this is concerned. When DGMO-level talks were on, Pakistan actually was mentioning that we know that such and such vector is primed and ready for action. We would request you to perhaps pull it back. They were getting live inputs from China. That is one place we really need to move fast,' said Lt Gen Singh. What is C4 ISR? C4ISR stands for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance. It is a military term that refers to a collection of systems and technologies designed to enhance situational awareness, streamline communication, and ensure seamless coordination among various units, ultimately enabling informed and effective decision-making during combat operations. Lt General Singh mentioned how Pakistan was getting help from Chinese satellites. China has deployed several reconnaissance/ surveillance satellites in the past few years compared to India while ISRO has to catch up with Beijing. How equipped is India compared to Israel and America? Israel has a strong air defence system that includes Irone dome, Arrow, David's Sling and America's THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence) while the United States is also preparing for a multi-layered air defence system named Golden Dome. As for India, given its vast area and location, it needs an air defence system capable of protecting the whole nation. Lieutenant General Rahul R Singh highlighted the need for a similar, rather more powerful air defence system that can take on both China and Pakistan. 'There is a need for a robust air defence system. Our population centres need to be protected. We don't have the luxury of Israel's Iron Dome and a number of other air defence systems. We don't have such a system as our country is vast and such things cost a lot of money. This time, our population centres were not quite addressed, but next time, we need to be prepared for that,' he said.
