His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, on Sunday directed that the 'World Sports Summit' be organised in Dubai from December 29-30.The event is anticipated to draw the largest global gathering related to the sports sector, with the participation of leading sports stars, experts, and decision-makers from around the world. His Highness said, 'This summit will bring together top officials, coaches, specialists, and current and former sports stars from around the world in Dubai to shape the future of the sports sector globally. Through this unique gathering in Dubai, we aim to harness new opportunities in the sector, while addressing current and future challenges, so that sport continues to play a vital role in bringing people together, inspiring generations, supporting the economy, developing talent, and becoming more enjoyable and beneficial for its fans and followers.'His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed added: 'This summit will discuss the future of both team and individual sports and will explore ways to support national teams and sports clubs to enhance their performance. We also place emphasis on the important role educational institutions and sports academies in preparing talents of all ages and across various sporting disciplines.'The World Sports Summit will be organised by the Dubai Sports Council. To be held at the Madinat Jumeirah, the event will feature a comprehensive programme including panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops and meetings. Participants representing various sporting bodies, teams, and federations will discuss the future of the industry in the context of economic, legislative, regulatory, and social frameworks.Key topics of discussion at the summit will include avenues to enhance audience engagement and economic viability of sporting events, besides assessing the latest technologies impacting the industry's future, given the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and data analytics.

29 June 2025 23:38 Abu Dhabi (Aletihad)Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club claimed the top honours in the fourth round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship which concluded on Sunday at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports event wrapped up with exciting competitions in the Kids and Under-12 divisions (Gi category), the strong participation and enthusiastic support from families and fans turning the arena into a vibrant community the overall rankings, Baniyas were followed by their counterparts from Al Jazira and Al Ain in that order. Attending the final day were many dignitaries as jiu-jitsu strengthens its position as one of the UAE's leading sport. Hamad Al Ahbabi, father of young athlete Matar, said, "Anyone who's seen my son's progress in jiu-jitsu understands how much this sport can transform young lives. This championship is about more than medals. It's about building character, values, and confidence. The generous prize money initiative from Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed is a clear sign of how much the leadership cares about motivating and supporting the nation's youth."Diana Nurislamova from Russia, mother of competitor Danis, added: "The atmosphere has been incredible and the organisation outstanding. Danis gained far more than just technique. He has learnt patience, teamwork, and respect. We are truly thankful for the UAE's vision and the way it supports young athletes from all nationalities." Attending the event Mohamed Humaid Al Dhaheri, the UAE federations board member, said: "Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship reflects the wise leadership's vision of empowering individuals, nurturing future generations, and strengthening community bonds through sport. The involvement of younger age groups demonstrates the success of our long-term development plans, providing a safe, competitive, and professional environment that nurtures talent and builds a solid foundation for future national champions."This sport promotes physical fitness, mental resilience, and values like discipline and respect – key pillars for a strong society and a sustainable, world-leading nation."Maysarah Eid, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre and another guest of honour, added: "We saw firsthand how the championship brings together elite organisations and a deep investment in the future of our children. With Round 4 now complete, the championship continues its successful journey with the next round set for August.
