ALBAWABA - Russian authorities said that a government official, who previously served in the Ukraine conflict, was murdered in a suspected assassination by Ukraine.
The governor of Russia's Stavropol Region blamed Kiev's operatives for being potentially behind the explosion, which occurred in the southern city of Stavropol on Wednesday, RT reported.
A video was posted on Telegram showing the moment of the explosion that killed two people, including Zaur Gurtsiev, a regional government employee.
On Thursday morning, Stavropol Governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed that a regional government employee was killed in the blast.
Vladimirov stressed that Russian officials are probing all possible scenarios for the explosion, "including a terrorist attack organized by Nazis from Ukraine."

Houthis linked to dealers selling weapons on X and WhatsApp

Published July 17th, 2025 - 07:59 GMT ALBAWABA - A report recently revealed that arms dealers linked to Yemen's Houthis have been selling weapons using X (formerly known as Twitter) and Meta platforms for years, according to The Guardian. The report by the Washington-based organization Tech Transparency Project (TTP) revealed that some of the weapons being sold were US-made despite the Houthis being marked as a terrorist organization by the US, Canada, and other allied countries. Despite Meta and X's strict social media policies regarding the issue at hand, the weapon trading operations have been running for months, with some organizations operating for years. A new investigation by @TTP_updates shows Houthi-linked arms dealers using X and Meta platforms to sell weapons, in apparent violation of both social media giants' policies. The revelation comes as both companies massively cut back their moderation staff. 👇 — Will Christou (@will_christou) July 16, 2025 Director of TTP Katie Paul said, "X and WhatsApp both have policies against weapons sales but they are allowing arms traders linked to a US-designated terrorist group to traffic weapons on their platforms." She added, "In some cases these companies may be profiting off violations of their own policies that create risks for US national security." The report revealed that most accounts selling weapons were operating from the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, which often shared Houthi-related content. Photos shared by the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) During its investigation into the matter, TTP identified 130 X accounts and 67 WhatsApp business accounts operating in Yemen. The accounts sold military equipment, including rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, handguns, and more. Several X accounts also used the platform's tipping features to maximize their profits. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Trump sets 50-day deadline for Ukraine deal, threatens 100% tariffs on Russia

ALBAWABA- U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin, warning that Russia will face crippling 100% tariffs, referred to as 'secondary tariffs', within 50 days if no agreement is reached to end the war in Ukraine. Also Read Trump promises big Russia reveal—Kremlin watches closely Speaking from the White House during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump expressed frustration over what he called a missed opportunity to end the conflict. 'We're very disappointed with them. I thought we'd have a deal months ago,' Trump said. 'If there's no deal in 50 days, we're going to impose very severe tariffs—100% secondary tariffs.' The new deadline marks an escalation in Trump's pressure campaign on Moscow. While he had previously floated the idea of secondary tariffs on Russian oil and exports, this is the first time he has attached a specific timetable to the threat. LIVE: President Trump Participates in the White House Faith Office Luncheonhttps:// — Commentary Donald J. Trump Posts From Truth Social (@TrumpDailyPosts) July 14, 2025 Secondary tariffs target not just Russia directly, but also countries and companies that continue to trade with it, particularly in energy. Analysts say such tariffs could hit nations like China, India, Brazil, and Turkiye, all of which remain major consumers of Russian fossil fuels. Trump's remarks also signal a shift in tone on Ukraine. He announced that the U.S. will deliver billions of dollars' worth of military equipment to NATO allies, purchased by European partners, who will then transfer the arms to Ukrainian forces. The move, combined with the tariff warning, underscores the president's growing impatience with Putin and signals a firmer stance on the conflict. The Trump administration is also reportedly considering supplying Ukraine with advanced U.S.-made JASSM cruise missiles to enhance their aging fleet of F-16 fighter jets. These long-range, radar-evading missiles could give Ukraine deeper strike capabilities inside Russian territory. While Trump has previously threatened secondary tariffs on countries importing oil from Venezuela and Iran, Monday's warning marks the most direct economic threat yet aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Whether the pressure will bring Russia to the negotiating table remains uncertain, but the clock is now ticking toward a September deadline.

Iranian president survives Israeli assassination attempt with minor injuries last June

ALBAWABA- Fars News Agency on Sunday disclosed new details about a dramatic Israeli airstrike that targeted a high-level meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council on June 15. The closed-door meeting, held in the lower floors of a secure government facility in western Tehran, was attended by the heads of the three branches of power, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to the report, the attack bore similarities to tactics used in previous high-profile assassinations, including that of former Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. A total of six bombs or missiles were reportedly used to strike the building's entrance and exit points, aiming to isolate the officials and disrupt airflow. The explosions caused a power outage on the targeted floor, but the attending officials managed to escape through a pre-prepared emergency hatch. Several sustained minor injuries during the exit, including President Pezeshkian, who was treated for a leg injury. The report also raised the possibility of internal infiltration, citing the precision of the strike and the level of intelligence required to locate and target the meeting. An investigation is reportedly underway to determine whether Israeli intelligence operated with inside support. The revelation of the Israeli strike on Iran's top leadership underscores the extent to which Israel has escalated its objectives in the ongoing conflict. The attack came amid the broader context of the 12-day Israeli-Iranian war, which began on June 12 when Israel launched a wide-scale military campaign targeting what it described as Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) infrastructure. The United States also participated, striking three Iranian nuclear facilities. According to Iranian authorities, the Israeli-led offensive and subsequent retaliatory strikes have resulted in over 1,000 deaths and numerous injuries inside Iran. In response, Iran launched a large-scale counterattack that caused extensive damage to key areas in Israel, marking one of the most destructive assaults on Israeli territory since the state's establishment in 1948.
