Lioness Lucy Bronze mocks England doubters with witty "masterplan" video after Euros win
Lucy Bronze posted a video on Instagram joking that England women's loss to France to begin Euro 2025 was "all part of the plan" so that other teams would "underestimate" them.
The Lionesses saw off Spain on penalties to retain their European crown with Chloe Kelly hammering home the winning kick after the match had finished 1-1. Rewind several weeks, though, and Sarina Wiegman 's side endured a forgettable start to their defence.
They lost 2-1 to France in their opener and it led defender Jess Carter to claim they "played like they were a little bit scared".
But that has all been forgotten and Bronze has been able to see the funny side of the loss as she and Esme Morgan posted a video together from the changing rooms.
The duo were shaking hands as Bronze began: "Losing the first game so everyone underestimated us". The camera then panned to Morgan as the video continued: "Sike! All part of the plan to bring it home again!!" Bronze, holding her medal, finished: "European champions back to back".
The Lionesses became the first nation to retain the women's Euros since Germany won six in a row from 1995 to 2013 as they also settled a personal score with Spain, who had beaten them in the World Cup final several years ago.
Bronze herself has earned huge accolades after playing through the pain barrier. She's been seen holding her leg for several games, which has required strapping during the tournament.
During the final she was limping again but managed 105 minutes, before leaving the pitch in tears as she was forced off. Bronze said: "I just hurt my knee today on the other leg. That is why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game because I have been in a lot of pain.
"But if that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do - they know that. We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end, in the end."
She joked though that her injury would not halt her ability to celebrate: "It's very painful. I am going to party, I am going to enjoy it and that's it."
Wiegman said on Bronze's efforts: "She had some issues with her tibia so of course we tried to manage that. When you play 120 minutes you're not managing it are you? The whole team has a great mentality but she has a crazy mentality, it's unbelievable."

Oliver Antman tees up Rangers transfer as £5m winger makes Ibrox revamp fit his demanding criteria
The ambitious 23-year-old is wanted by Russell Martin as a marquee arrival to underline the new era led by Andrew Cavenagh and Co Top Rangers target Oliver Antman admits he is primed and ready to make the switch to Ibrox with Go Ahead Eagles close to sanctioning his £5million exit to Glasgow. The ambitious 23-year-old is wanted by Russell Martin as a marquee arrival to underline the new era led by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers with talks well under way. And Antman admits he is relishing a transfer. In a searingly honest interview in the Netherlands with Voetbal International, he said: "Last season was so good for me that the next step would be logical. If something good comes along, I'm willing to take on that challenge." According to Antman, the time is ripe for a transfer which is complicated somewhat by Celtic's protracted chase of his Eagles team-mate Jakob Breum. The KNVB Cup Winners – participating in the Europa League – expect their two star turns to exit this summer. It's understood Breum has his heart set on Celtic, however, Eagles supremo Jan Streuer is adamant the Premiership champions are below their asking price with Twente. And Antman reckons he is now ready to step off the conveyor belt of ready-made talent which has earned Go Ahead a reputation as one of the best finishing schools in European football. added: "I do think this is the moment to take a step, just like Simonis and Enric Llansana did. The club wouldn't have expected me to be worth four times what they paid for me a year ago either." Antman admits he's in no rush to exit Eagles unless the offer is right. But the Finland international made sure that Rangers make the list for his strict criteria despite one day dreaming of starring in one of the world's biggest leagues. He said : "I'm enjoying myself, and the Europa League matches are fantastic to experience. That's a special stage for me too. If nothing good comes along, why would I go? I want to play in a top league one day and compete in the Champions League. "A club in a top-five league would be fantastic, but there are also great clubs in other countries." Martin is linked with a clutch of wingers with England youth international Jesurun Rak Sakyi wanted on an initial loan with a £10million option to buy. And Tottenham wonder boy Mikey Moore is another Martin is keen on. Why Man Utd could be in pole position for Harry Kane if they miss out on Sesko as transfer merry-go-round hots up
United have narrowed their striker search down to two names this summer KANE YOU BELIEVE IT Why Man Utd could be in pole position for Harry Kane if they miss out on Sesko as transfer merry-go-round hots up Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MANCHESTER UNITED could be in pole position to sign Harry Kane if they miss out on target Benjamin Sesko this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils are locked in a transfer battle with Premier League rivals Newcastle for Sesko after a summer of striker switches that has created a transfer merry-go-round. A new No9 appears to be top on most teams' wishlist this summer with Chelsea signing Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, Arsenal luring Viktor Gyokeres to north London and Liverpool looking to add Alexander Isak to their splash on Hugo Ekitike. United are no different with Ruben Amorim keen to bring in a new goalscorer to lead the line at Old Trafford before the deadline. However, their attempts have so far proved fruitless, having lost out on their pursuits of Gyokeres and Delap. That has meant pivoting to Sesko and Ollie Watkins as their main targets, but neither player will be easy to land. According to the Telegraph, Aston Villa have told United that Watkins is not for sale. While Newcastle, who could lose star man Isak to Liverpool in the coming weeks and are eyeing a replacement, are thought to be leading the race for Sesko at present. Should Man Utd miss out on both strikers then Amorim may have to rely on last season's misfiring duo of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund for the upcoming campaign. However, that could prove to be beneficial in the long-run as it may put them in pole position to sign Harry Kane from Bayern Munich next summer. 5 Harry Kane could head to Man Utd next summer Credit: Reuters CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS The Telegraph claim that Kane will look for a return to England following the 2026 World Cup, with a deal made possible by a clause in his contract at Bayern. The Three Lions captain is thought to have a release clause that decreases each year, making him more affordable to buying clubs as he ages. Man Utd make £55m Watkins vs Sesko decision United would have to fend off Kane's former club Tottenham if they were to get a deal over the line, however. That's because Spurs are understood to hold a first-option clause that means they will be offered the opportunity to sign Kane first should Bayern agree to sell and the striker want to return to Tottenham. However, despite that clause, it's claimed that Man Utd are currently thought to be the most likely destination for Kane if he does ditch Bavaria next summer. 5 5 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW
