In a video released by Doraemon's creators, the character is seen wandering around Saudi Arabia landmarks through his popular pink portal door that allows him to explore any place at any time.
Surrounded by Saudi Arabia's majestic landscapes, the character searches for his best friend Nobita, who makes a quick appearance. He returns to the Saudi Pavilion at the end of his journey, encouraging people to visit it.
'That was amazing. Come see it for yourself — and don't forget to collect your limited-edition Doraemon tote bag after the experience,' the character says at the end of the video.
Located inside the Osaka Expo Exhibition Center, the 'Wonders of Arabia' exhibition offers workshops, interactive presentations, photobooths, and live demonstrations of Saudi and Japanese calligraphy.
The exhibition is also offering an interactive virtual reality experience simulating Formula 1 races, and highlights of the Esports World Cup currently taking place in Riyadh.
Doraemon has become a cultural icon in Japan since the manga debuted in 1969, appearing in more than 40 feature films and 3,000 TV episodes.
Expo 2025 Osaka began in April and concludes in October.

Saudi artist rolls forward with bamboo paper

JEDDAH: Saudi artist Jumanah Telity has found an unusual medium for her creativity: bamboo paper. Through a labor-intensive process she transforms it into sturdy objects, from baskets and storage boxes to small-scale furniture and figurines. 'This art, like any other art, requires specific techniques, sense, and artistic thought to produce creativity,' she told Arab News. 'It differs from other arts in that it is a very strong and practical product that is used daily and also decoratively.' Originally an educator, Telity spent 19 years in schools, eventually serving as a principal. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to explore her long-time fascination with natural materials such as wood, bamboo, and rattan. That is when she discovered bamboo paper weaving online and something clicked. • In 2020, Saudi artist Jumanah Telity decided to explore her long-time fascination with natural materials such as wood, bamboo, and rattan. • She recently displayed her work at Balad Al-Fann in Jeddah's historic district. 'It strangely attracted me. I felt like I found my passion here because it really appealed to me,' she said. Telity says the method involves tightly rolling paper into sticks using a special needle. It is then woven into shape. 'It begins with choosing the type of paper, its size, and the way it is cut,' she said. 'After trying this art, you'll be amazed at the strength of these products and how they can be washed with soap and water without being affected.' She describes the art as eco-conscious because of the recycling involved in the process. To hone her craft, Telity enrolled in intensive online courses specializing in the technique. 'I found what I was looking for,' she said. 'The study was online, intensive, daily, and very precise in how to teach and train step by step.' Now among the first Saudi artists to specialize in this form of bamboo art, she credits the Kingdom's growing cultural landscape for supporting artists exploring niche and rare forms of expression. 'This type of art is considered one of the rarest arts in the world,' she added. 'It requires precise skills and a deep understanding of transforming paper into a wood-like material.' Telity recently displayed her work at Balad Al-Fann in Jeddah's historic district. She was struck by how strongly the art resonated with visitors. 'I noticed people's amazement and admiration for this art and how they were attracted by the type of art, method of weaving and the strength and ability to withstand external factors,' she said. She now plans to hold workshops to pass on her skills, with the goal of eventually becoming a certified trainer. With growing interest from aspiring crafters and a renewed push for cultural innovation across Saudi Arabia, Telity believes the future of this art form is bright.

May Calamawy promotes Palestinian film's North American run

DUBAI: Egyptian Palestinian actress May Calamawy took to social media on Saturday to promote Palestinian film 'To A Land Unknown.' For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @ Distributed by Watermelon Pictures, the film is directed by Mahdi Fleifel and stars Angeliki Papoulia, Mahmoud Bakri, Manal Awad and Aram Sabbah. May Calamawy took to Instagram Stories to share news that 'To A Land Unknown' is on a 40-screen cinema run in North America this month, including showings in New York, Houston and Vancouver. 'Reda and Chatila are two Palestinian cousins hustling their way through the underbelly of Athens pursuing their dream of making it to Germany. But as their hardship grows, so too does their desperation. When Chatila hatches a reckless all-or-nothing plan, it strains their bond and pushes the limits of what they will do for freedom,' the film's logline reads. The film was awarded the Silver Yusr Award December's Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia. Watermelon Pictures was co-founded by Alana Hadid, the sister of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid. Hadid — along with brothers Badie Ali and Hamza Ali — co-founded Watermelon Pictures, a production company with a mission to create compelling, impactful stories that resonate with global audiences. 'I was honored to be asked to be the creative director of Watermelon Pictures. I think it's not only a passion project for Hamza and Badie, but it is an opportunity for Palestinians to have a place to go to tell their stories … I get emotional about it. I think it's just one of the most beautiful things that people have a place where they can put their stories. And we know that we have a safe place for that,' Hadid previously told Arab News. For her part, Calamawy is known for her roles in US Netflix series 'Ramy' and 'Moon Knight' (2022), where she plays dual characters Layla El-Faouly and the Scarlet Scarab. She made headlines in late 2024 when almost all her scenes were cut from Ridley Scott's 'Gladiator II,' with fans taking to social media to complain. Her casting in the film was first announced in May 2023. At the time, Deadline reported that Scott had cast Calamawy after a lengthy search, writing: 'While many of the leading roles were straight offers, Scott wanted to do a similar search he did for the (Paul) Mescal part for the role that Calamawy ultimately landed.' However, fans noticed that in the final cut, which hit cinemas in November, Calamawy is only seen in passing and she has no dialogue.
