But in the next (penultimate) round, The Sharks faced Wood Green, who fielded England heavyweight Michael Adams on top board (whose win is shown below). Despite that, the Sharks scored a 4.5-3.5 upset. Meanwhile, Manx Liberty won their match easily, leaving them three points ahead of Wood Green in the title race. That dashed Wood Green's hopes, so their final match with Manx Liberty mattered only for pride, and ended in a 4-4 tie.

Isle of Man finishes 4th in Island Games after taking home 19 gold medals in Orkney
The Isle of Man has finished 4th in the Island Games after securing a total of 19 gold medals in Orkney. Manx competitors achieved a total of 80 medals across multiple sports, with the most medals achieved by Manx swimmers. The swimming team received a total of 6 golds, 7 silvers and 6 bronze medals across various swimming events. Joel Watterson took five golds in the 4x100m freestyle relay, 4x50m freestyle relay, 4x50m medley relay, 50m freestyle, and 4x50 medley relay. It was five golds also for Harry Robinson, who notably broke the games record in the 50m backstroke, and helped break the record as part of the 50m medley relay team. In athletics, Corrin Leeming became the first athlete to break the 30-minute barrier in the 10,000m, finishing with a time of 29:56 and securing gold. Christa Cain also broke the record in the women's 10,000m the previous day with a time of 35:16. A record to accompany her three gold medals achieved at her first ever Island Games. In gymnastics, Amara Brogan took gold in the women's all around competition, adding to the Manx tally. Golfer Daryl Callister also took the top spot in the individual event, while the Isle of Man's golfing team also came first in their respective event. In cycling, Tyler Hannay finished top of the individual time trial event, and the team also took home a gold medal to accompany the solo win. Team Isle of Man received a total of 80 medals after a week of multiple sports including: Gold Swimming x6 Athletics x6 Gymnastics x3 Cycling x2 Golf x2 Silver Gymnastics x9 Swimming x7 Athletics x4 Cycling x3 Golf x1 Archery x1 Badminton x1 Football x1 Bronze Gymnastics x10 Swimming x6 Athletics x5 Archery x4 Badminton x4 Cycling x3 Triathlon x1 Football x1 The Island Games sees 24 teams compete in 12 different sports over the week-long event. This year, the event was held in Orkney, concluding on Friday 18 July. The very first Island Games competition was held in the Isle of Man in 1985, where 700 athletes from 15 islands travelled to Douglas. It was initially supposed to be a one-off event, but the Games have continued due to its success. The Isle of Man will next host the Island Games in 2029.

Island Games: Isle of Man triathlete returns to event after 2023 crash
A Manx triathlon competitor who crashed out of the Island Games in 2023 is returning to the competition after a "slow and steady" Looker fractured his neck twice when he came off his bike during the cycling leg of the endurance event at the last contest in said his recuperation had been "a bit of a long road" but "there was not a moment" where he thought he would not get back to training and be ready to compete for this year's games in Orkney."We've got some fantastic triathletes on the team so it was always gonna be a tough task but thankfully I got the call. I'm ready to get my revenge on the event," he said. Despite his injuries, the overall performance of the team in 2023 saw it take home a bronze medal - which Mr Looker was presented with in his hospital bed. He said after time spent in a neck brace, and with the support of his wife Kay, he had been able to "build back to about 95% of where my body was"."I'm upright and I'm able to do exactly what I did before - if all I have to manage is a few niggles then I'll deal with it," he said."I also had a tough time mentally but Kay was there for me throughout, even though she was becoming very heavily pregnant with our daughter". After resting and recovering, Mr Looker said he had managed to fit in 18 months of training in the build up to this year's competition, which had to be "slow and steady" at for his third games, and with his wife and daughter travelling to cheer him on, he said he was "genuinely really looking forward" to representing the Isle of Man during Sunday's triathlon event which takes place around Stromness for another medal, the triathlete said "we have a really strong squad of both men and women who have put the training in"."The goal for this games has to be bronze or better", he at the Orkney Island Games was set to begin following Saturday's opening ceremony and continues until 18 July.
