Olivia Rodrigo speaks out for Palestine: The children in Gaza are starving

Al Bawaba2 days ago
ALBAWABA - 22-year-old American singer Olivia Rodrigo recently went viral after breaking her silence on Gaza through Instagram. The star spoke out for the innocent Palestinians suffering due to the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since Oct. 7, 2023.
Her statement on Instagram stories was followed by a donation link calling for a fundraiser for the children in Gaza through the UN's international emergency fund.
Rodrigo wrote, "There are no words to describe the heartbreak I feel witnessing the devastation that is being inflicted upon innocent people in Palestine. Mothers, fathers, and children in Gaza are starving, dehydrated, and being denied access to basic medical care and humanitarian aid."
She added, "There is no child in Israel, Palestine, or anywhere in the world who deserves to suffer through what we're seeing these children have to endure. It is horrific and completely unacceptable. To give up on them is to give up on our shared humanity."
Olivia Rodrigo urged her 39 million followers to donate to the UNICEF link "to help support the victims of this horrific situation." Additionally, Rodrigo revealed that she also donated to the cause.
The ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza has resulted in the killing of at least 57,800 Palestinians and the injuring of nearly 137,000, as reported by the health ministry in the Strip.
Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant were issued an arrest warrant in November by the International Criminal Court for the crimes they committed in Gaza.

Ceasefire talks progress in Cairo as Israeli strikes kill dozens in Gaza

Published July 15th, 2025 - 06:14 GMT On Tuesday, over 60 Palestinians were reportedly killed, including an entire family with women and children, in strikes on shelters and residential areas. ALBAWABA- Cairo is currently hosting high-level Egyptian-Qatari-Israeli meetings aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza, with discussions centered on humanitarian access, medical evacuations, and the return of stranded individuals. An Egyptian source reported to Al Arabiya noticeable progress, with consensus emerging on several key humanitarian aspects of the proposed deal. Talks are expected to continue for two days, as Egypt pushes to remove obstacles blocking a final agreement and ensure adequate aid flows into the besieged enclave. As part of the negotiations, Israel has presented a revised 'third deployment map' outlining its proposed military positions during the suggested 60-day truce. According to sources cited by the Jerusalem Post, Tel Aviv has shown increased flexibility, particularly regarding troop deployment along the southern Gaza-Egypt border, between the Morag and Philadelphi corridors. The updated plan includes reducing Israeli military presence to a two-kilometer buffer zone near Rafah, with signals that further troop withdrawals may be possible during the ceasefire period. 👉 Second ultra-Orthodox party quit government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a day after a similar withdrawal from ruling coalition 🗳️ Withdrawal of two Haredi parties leave government with only 61 seats in Knesset — Anadolu English (@anadoluagency) July 15, 2025 Despite these developments, core disputes persist. Hamas continues to demand a full Israeli withdrawal to pre-March ceasefire positions. At the same time, Israel remains hesitant, previously insisting on maintaining a larger three-kilometer zone and control of the Morag corridor separating Rafah from Khan Younis. While Israeli media outlets have described the Doha-mediated negotiations as making 'dramatic progress,' deadly Israeli airstrikes across Gaza continue unabated. On Tuesday, over 60 Palestinians were reportedly killed, including an entire family with women and children, in strikes on shelters and residential areas. Also Read 82 killed, 247 wounded in Gaza today amid ongoing Israeli assault A similar death toll was recorded the day before, reinforcing what many rights groups are calling a routine campaign of mass killing under the guise of security operations. Amid this military escalation, political instability deepens in Israel. On Wednesday, a second ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) party withdrew from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, following a similar move the previous day by Degel HaTorah. These back-to-back defections leave the ruling bloc with only 61 seats in the Knesset, placing Netanyahu's government on the brink of collapse at a critical juncture in the war and ceasefire negotiations. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Syria condemns 'Israeli' strikes on Suwayda, vows to defend its sovereignty

Syria's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday strongly condemned what it called a 'treacherous Israeli aggression' following a series of coordinated airstrikes and attacks on southern Syrian territory, accusing 'Israel' of deliberately escalating tensions in the region and pledging to defend the country through all legal means. In an official statement, the ministry said the strikes had resulted in the deaths of both military personnel and civilians. 'This aggression represents a new escalation, carried out through deliberate air raids and coordinated attacks on Syrian land,' the ministry said, calling it part of a continued pattern of 'Israeli' violations of Syrian sovereignty. 'The attacks occurred at a calculated time and within a suspicious context aimed at undermining Syria's national stability and increasing tensions in the region,' the statement added. The Foreign Ministry stressed that Syria reserves its full right to defend its land and people, affirming that it will use all tools guaranteed by international law to confront aggression and protect national security. It also reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding all Syrians, including members of the Druze community, who it said are now facing direct threats as a result of 'Israeli' attacks. The strikes come amid ongoing violence in the southern governorate of Suwayda, home to Syria's Druze minority, where deadly clashes between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes erupted over the weekend. On Tuesday, Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra announced a complete ceasefire in the city following talks with local leaders. Government forces had entered Suwayda earlier in the day and raised the Syrian flag at key checkpoints. Shortly afterward, 'Israel' announced that its military had begun striking Syrian regime positions in the Suwayda region, citing the need to protect the Druze minority and ensure the demilitarization of the border zone. In a joint statement, 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strikes targeted forces and weapons 'brought into Suwayda to carry out operations against the Druze.' 'We are acting to prevent the Syrian regime from harming them,' the statement read. The 'Israeli' military claimed it struck several vehicles in the area, and Syrian state media confirmed the attacks. The Syrian government, however, rejected 'Israel's' stated justification. The Foreign Ministry's statement denounced the attempt to use the Druze as a pretext for foreign interference and stressed Damascus' commitment to protecting all of its citizens. The recent clashes in Suwayda have left more than 100 people dead, including Druze fighters, civilians, and members of the Bedouin community, according to war monitors and Syrian officials. Government forces were deployed to restore order but quickly became entangled in the fighting.

Armed Israeli Druze cross into Syria as Israeli forces strike Syrian troops in Sweida

Published July 15th, 2025 - 03:50 GMT Israeli Channel 13 and Israel Hayom reported that the individuals were armed when they entered Syrian territory, raising concerns over cross-border escalation. ALBAWABA- Dozens of armed Israeli Druze citizens crossed the border into Syria through the Majdal Shams area in the occupied Golan Heights, according to Israeli media reports. Also Read Israeli forces strike Syrian tanks amid clashes in Suwayda The Israeli military confirmed it is working to return those who crossed, amid rising tensions in southern Syria. Israeli Channel 13 and Israel Hayom reported that the individuals were armed when they entered Syrian territory, raising concerns over cross-border escalation. Shortly after the incident, Israeli forces launched air strikes targeting Syrian government troops and military vehicles in the Sweida region. — قناة الحرة (@alhurranews) July 15, 2025 The strikes came in the wake of a ceasefire announcement by Syria's defense minister, following the deployment of government forces in Sweida city earlier that day. Syrian state news agency SANA confirmed continued deployment of internal security units to the town to enforce the truce and protect civilians. While many Druze religious leaders in Syria supported the government's intervention, at least one senior cleric called for armed resistance and demanded international protection. Notably, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the military strikes were intended to 'prevent the Syrian regime from harming the Druze' and to ensure the demilitarization of the border region. Also Read 12 Lebanese killed, 8 wounded, in Israeli strikes on Beqaa valley The Israeli military said it began targeting regime vehicles and positions near Sweida immediately after the ceasefire was announced. A day earlier, Israel had struck several tanks in southern Syria, warning that it would not allow threats against the Druze community. Analysts and critics argue, however, that Israel may be using its stated concern for the Druze as a pretext to advance broader military objectives and territorial control, particularly during Syria's ongoing political transition. They warn that such actions, bolstered by U.S. support and Western silence, risk further destabilizing the region, as seen in Israel's repeated strikes across Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, Iraq, and the Palestinian territories. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
