Arthur Fils clear on Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic debate

Daily Mirror03-06-2025
The question of who is the greatest male tennis player of all time is a hot topic, and while Novak Djokovic is out in front in terms of Grand Slam titles, Arthur Fils sides differently
Arthur Fils has firmly planted his flag in the ongoing debate over who reigns supreme among tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The trio, often referred to as the sport's 'big three', have been at the pinnacle of men's tennis for nearly two decades, with only Djokovic, aged 37, still competing at the highest level.
Federer hung up his racket in 2022 with a tally of 20 Grand Slam titles. Meanwhile, Nadal retired at the end of last year with 22 Grand Slams under his belt after grappling with injuries.
Djokovic leads the pack with 24 Grand Slam victories, yet this doesn't settle the debate on who is the greatest.
World No. 14 Fils has declared that, in his view, the suave Swiss maestro Federer is the top male player of their time. Sidelined from the French Open due to a back injury, Fils was quizzed by Prime Video Sport France to rank players:
Question: Roger or Rafa? Answer: "Roger. I love Roger."
Fils had to bow out of the competition following an exhilarating five-set win against Jaume Munar in the second round, explaining: "I had some issue with the back since a long time and during the match against Munar it [got] worse.
"[I] got some stress fracture. What we decide with the team it was better to stop now, because if I'm stopping now, I could stop for only four to six weeks.
"If I was pushing myself too much, I would probably stop for a couple of months. This is not what we are trying to do, so [we] had to make a choice."
As for Djokovic, the Serbian ace is in prime position to clinch his 25th Grand Slam title after he dispatched British hopeful Cameron Norrie in straight sets during the fourth round at Roland Garros, marking his 100th career victory at the French Open, reports the Express.
"Considering my opponent's form and the occasion, I think it was a very good match from my side, a very solid performance," Djokovic said.
"A straight-sets win again. I'm pleased with the way things are going. Obviously matches only get tougher. I look forward to the next challenge."
In the quarter-finals, Djokovic is set to take on German third seed Alexander Zverev, who progressed after Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands had to retire due to injury in the second set of their match.

But when a game ends and you've lost 2-0, you can't be satisfied. "We played well, we had many chances and if I or Facundo Pellistri had scored at 0-0, things would have been different. "Sometimes you have to take responsibility. We still have the rematch and there we'll have a chance to go through. "We are satisfied with how we played, but I cannot be satisfied with the fact that we missed the opportunities. We showed that we can create chances. "In Athens, in front of our own fans, I believe in victory." Householders urged to put ripped up teabags in garden this summer

Tea bags can be repurposed to benefit plants and flowers. In Britain, around 100 million cups of tea are drunk every day. For every brew made, comes a used tea bag. The majority of householders will typically throw out the used bag, however, experts are now urging householders to put them to good use. Instead of tossing it away, people should rip the bag open and scatter the contents in their gardens compost to help plants thrive. ‌ The common item can be repurposed to benefit plants and flowers, helping to reduce waste. ‌ Composting is a hugely beneficial thing to do for your garden all year round. It's an ideal way to turn your kitchen scraps like potato peel, carrot off-cuts and banana peel into rich, nutritious compost that will boost your plants. ‌ You can start a compost pile anywhere in your garden with a simple plastic bin, although more expensive and more sophisticated options are available, including wooden composters, multi-opening 'hot bins' and various other elegant solutions. On a budget, though, a simple plastic box or an old bin with a lid will do if you just add some air-holes for the plant bacteria to use to break down. But people adding teabags into their compost have been told you must tear open the bags first and pour the raw tea leaves in directly, reports the Express. ‌ Many supermarket brands use this in their teabags, which means they will never break down in your compost, leaving a plastic residue behind which will also contaminate your compost with leached plastic chemicals. Even plant-based teabags, such as those used by Yorkshire Tea, should be cut open, and the bag disposed of separately, not in the compost bin. Yorkshire Tea says: "PLA tea bags are sometimes called 'plastic free', but we've never used that label and WRAP, the people behind the UK Plastics Pact, also advise against it because plant-based plastics are still plastics. ‌ "You can snip open your used tea bags, compost the tea inside at home, and put the bag itself in your refuse bin. If you don't want to do that, the alternative is to put your tea bag in your refuse bin." Consumer advice magazine Which? explains: "Tea bags have traditionally been sealed with a plastic called polypropylene, which enables their edges to be heat sealed and stop them falling apart in hot water. Small amounts were used, but it prevented them being composted and, due to the enormous amount of tea bags used in the UK, it generated a large amount of plastic waste. "The advice from the UK Tea & Infusions Association is to rip open the bags before placing the used tea leaves on your compost heap and dispose of the teabag paper separately in your bin where it will go into landfill." Keep windows streak-free by ditching vinegar for one common kitchen item

This clever hack can help clean windows in no time (Image: Elizabeth Fernandez via Getty Images) Windows are prone to getting particularly grubby during summer months, especially when you're frequently opening and closing them, allowing dust to accumulate on the interior glass surfaces. It can be frustrating attempting to maintain spotless windows as the glass has a tendency to streak, but TJ, a mother and creator of Measuring Flower, reveals there's a straightforward method to avoid those annoying marks. TJ explained: "I mixed alcohol, water, and cornstarch. Voila! I think I have found my perfect window cleaner. The alcohol disinfects, the cornstarch does something magical to make it streak-free and clear, and the water simply dilutes it." READ MORE: 'Simple yet effective' shoe rule means you'll never go over luggage weight limit Windows are prone to getting grubby during summer months (Image: Getty) Cornstarch works by disrupting water's surface tension, meaning it helps window cleaning mixtures spread across glass so they dry more uniformly. It's also incredibly absorbent, soaking up any leftover residue from cleaning products to ensure no streaks remain, reports the Express. Whilst some people champion white vinegar for window cleaning, it dries too rapidly, typically resulting in numerous visible streaks. White vinegar can work when combined with cornstarch, though rubbing alcohol proves superior as it's a powerful disinfectant that leaves no traces behind. TJ added: "Some say to just use plain white vinegar. But, when I tried just plain white vinegar (diluted with water, of course), it left streaks on my glass." Pour all the ingredients into an empty spray bottle. You can find these in the gardening aisle of most supermarkets, or even in pound shops. Ensure that the water you use is cold, as cornstarch begins to thicken when heated, which could turn your cleaning solution into a gloopy mess that blocks the spray bottle. Once you've added everything, secure the cap on the spray bottle and give it a good shake to combine all the ingredients. Then, simply spray it onto a window and wipe it down with a dry cloth. In just 10 minutes, your windows will be gleaming and sparkling clean. This easy solution can also be used to clean other glass surfaces like mirrors or shower doors.
