
Top students honoured with ‘Shining Stars' awards
The event, organised by the District Education Department and Samagra Shiksha, recognised students who secured top marks in the Class 10 public exams. As part of the award, each student received 20,000 in cash, a medal, and a memento. A total of 187 Class 10 students and 38 Intermediate students were honored at the event.
Local MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, former minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, DEO Kishtappa, Intermediate Officer Devaraju, and other officials were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector urged students not to fall prey to the distractions of social media or the growing menace of drug abuse. He stressed that education should be complemented with physical and mental well-being to succeed in today's competitive world.
MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy emphasized the importance of Class 10 and Intermediate education as the foundation for pursuing professional careers like medicine and engineering.

Dharmavaram (Sri Sathya Sai dist): District Collector T S Chetan urged citizens to transform Sri Sathya Sai district into a plastic-free region. Speaking at the 'Swarnandhra-Swachh Andhra' rally on 'Cleanliness and Plastic Eradication' held in Dharmavaram, the Collector emphasised the importance of eliminating plastic, especially single-use plastics, for the survival of humanity. He encouraged people to replace plastic bags with jute or cloth alternatives while shopping. Vendors, supermarkets and street sellers should provide eco-friendly bags instead of plastic. Teachers and students were urged to raise awareness about using jute bags and steel water bottles as sustainable alternatives. Collector Chetan stressed the importance of community participation for the campaign's success and directed officials and volunteers to spread awareness on plastic alternatives. As part of the same initiative, the Collector felicitated sanitation workers Pullanna and Katamayya for their dedicated service to cleanliness in the district. Later, the Collector visited Gandhi Nagar and Railway Station Road municipal parks, including the Butterfly Park in Dharmavaram. He issued instructions to enhance park amenities, including improved lighting and creating a pleasant environment for the public. The event saw participation from Dharmavaram RDO Mahesh, Municipal Commissioner Pramod Kumar, students and the general public.

UG admissions: MGCU starts online counselling
Patna: Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU) in Motihari has commenced online registration for candidates seeking counselling and admission to its four undergraduate programmes for the current academic session (2025-26). MGCU's public relations officer Shephalika Mishra said that registration for counselling-cum-admission of all candidates who appeared in the CUET-UG-2025 examination, selecting MGCU as one of their study centre options, has started without considering the cut-off score in the test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). "Candidates desirous of seeking admission at MGCU can apply through the official e-Samarth portal. The last date for submission of the application is July 24," she said. This year the university will be admitting students on 132 seats (33 seats in each) in four UG programmes, including BCom (honours with research), bachelor of library and information science (honours with research), bachelor in journalism and mass communications (honours with research), and BTech/MTech in computer science engineering(four/five years), she said. She further pointed out that a standout feature of this year's academic offerings is the integrated BTech-MTech programme in computer science and engineering. "This flexible programme allows students to exit after four years with a BTech degree or continue seamlessly into the fifth year to earn an MTech degree," she said, adding that this integrated programme is fully aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, which emphasizes flexibility and a strong foundation in research. MGCU examination controller K K Upadhyaya said candidates willing to take admission in these programmes are required to register themselves on the MGCU portal ( by July 24 by depositing Rs 500 (for candidates belonging to general/ OBC/EWS categories) and Rs 200 (for SC/ST/PWD candidates).
