Activist Tanveer Ahmed demands Pakistani Army's immediate exit from PoJK, calls for demilitarisation, justice
As the founder of the JKA Public Agency, Ahmed emphasised the critical need for Pakistan's demilitarisation to restore peace, justice, and democratic rights to the people of PoJK.
Ahmed condemned Pakistan's continued military occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a violation of the region's aspirations. 'The presence of the Pakistani Army is not for our protection -- it is a tool of oppression. It is time Pakistan leaves our land quietly and without further damage,' he said.
He also highlighted widespread concerns among residents over systemic corruption in Pakistan, asserting that 'people themselves believe no business in Pakistan can happen without corruption.' Ahmed warned against dragging PoJK into Pakistan's long-standing ideological and political agendas, especially the belief rooted since independence that Muslims must have a separate country.
He accused the Pakistani state of using terror tactics, including affecting women and children, to suppress dissent and control the region.
Describing Pakistan as 'a burden on earth,' Ahmed reiterated that demilitarisation is the first and most crucial step toward genuine peace and autonomy for the region. 'We cannot allow more innocent lives to be lost in the name of Pakistan's agendas. The people of PoJK have a right to live with dignity, free from military domination.'
Ahmed's call has resonated with many in PoJK who are increasingly vocal about the region's need for self-determination and a peaceful future.
Grave injustices have been faced by the people of PoJK, including political suppression, lack of basic rights, economic exploitation, and denial of freedom of expression. These injustices have kept the region in a constant state of fear and underdevelopment. The government's militarised control has stifled development and silenced the democratic aspirations of the local population. (ANI)

7.2cr voters in post-SIR Bihar draft roll, against 7.9cr before
PTI file photo New Delhi: The draft roll for Bihar published by the Election Commission on Friday includes 7.24 crore electors who submitted their enumeration forms within the July 25 deadline. Bihar's electorate, as per the draft roll, is over 65.6 lakh less than its 7.9 crore strength on June 24, 2025, ahead of the onset of the special intensive revision. This figure of 65.6 lakh, made public by EC on July 27 after conclusion of the first phase of SIR, includes 22 lakh dead electors, 36 lakh permanently shifted or absent/untraceable, 7 lakh voters enrolled at more than one place and electors who did not submit their enumeration forms. As many as 15 districts have recorded a higher than state average, though not alarming, percentage of exclusions from the draft roll. These include Gopalganj (15.1%), Purnea (12.1%), Kishanganj (11.8%), Madhubani (10.4%) and Bhagalpur (10.2%). Kishanganj and Purnea are districts with allegedly high concentration of illegal migrants from Bangladesh. Encounter breaks out in J&K's Kulgam; operation underway
SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Akhal forest area of Devsar in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday evening. A joint team of personnel from the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police SOG had launched an anti-terror operation following inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. Holed-up ultras opened fire at the search party, triggering a gunfight, a police spokesperson said. The operation continued till the time of filing this report. Earlier in the day, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and IGP (Kashmir Range) VK Birdi had visited Kulgam to assess the security situation. DGP Prabhat held a high-level operational review meeting with GOC Victor Force and senior officers of the Army and police, directing them to 'analyse and reassess existing strategies and recalibrate the counter-terrorism offensive' to eliminate Pakistani terrorists. The DGP also toured the DH Pora, Devsar and Kund areas during his visit.
