Sometimes, a little bit of positive public relations is all you need to convince the gambling public that this is finally the year.
Lakers superstar Luka Doncic was featured on the cover of Men's Health on Monday after rampant criticism surrounded his conditioning and weight during previous seasons.
Meanwhile, an ESPN BET spokesperson tells The Post that Doncic is getting loads of bets from excited gamblers looking for an edge.

As of Monday, Doncic had received 58.3 percent of bets and 78.2 percent of handle (total money bet) in the last seven days on the 'to win the NBA regular-season MVP award' betting market, according to the sportsbook.
No other player has received close to this level of interest on the MVP market, with Victor Wembanyama getting the second most money to win MVP, at just 8.6 percent of the handle.
DraftKings and BetMGM are seeing similar results in the market.
On Monday, Doncic had received 67 percent of bets to win MVP as well as 57 percent of the handle on DraftKings.
Meanwhile, BetMGM reports to The Post that a whopping 79 percent of the money has been wagered on Doncic to win MVP on Monday in the MVP market.

Mens Health Magazine
Doncic told Men's Health that 'Visually, I would say my whole body looks better.'
The Dallas Mavericks made it relatively clear that they were moving on from Doncic, both as a player and in terms of his work habits, when they traded him to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a draft pick in a shocking midseason blockbuster.
Betting on the NBA?
General manager Nico Harrison consistently bashed his poor defensive effort and game conditioning after they unceremoniously traded him under everyone's nose.
Doncic is surely looking for a revenge season as the leader of the Lakers, although his running mate, LeBron James, has had a bizarre back-and-forth with the team that included rumors that he is looking for a trade.
If Doncic's newfound emphasis on health and fitness is real, James might be pleased enough to stick around in Hollywood a bit longer.

Luka Dončić Is Turning Heads, And Cashing In

NEW YORK, NY - JULY 28: Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees and Luka Doncic #77 of the Los ... More Angeles Lakers pose for a photo before the game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium on July 28, 2025 in New York, New York. (Photo by New) There's a lot of Luka Dončić buzz these days, and rightfully so. Not only did the Lakers superstar turn heads in a profile over at Men's Health, where he looked lean, and seemingly have made his weight issues a thing of the past, he's also widely expected to sign a four-year max extension with Los Angeles on August 2nd, the very moment he's eligible to do so. The body transformation It's important to note that Dončić has been extremely effective, regardless of the body type he's had. The superstar has been an annual MVP candidate, and has averaged 31.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.6 assists over the past three seasons. However, there have been numerous moments wherein Dončić has looked slow, and his large frame has had defensive issues as a direct result of it. Now, the Slovenian guard has changed his approach. Gone is the dad bod, and a muscled, lean physique is what's left. Presumably that will mean more speed, a quicker change of direction, and more energy to assert himself defensively. If Dončić's new emphasis on health will carry over to the floor, which it should given that that's the whole point, there is a world wherein the Lakers finish higher in the standings than perhaps expected, just as there's a chance Dončić finally wins his first MVP. And, yes, we probably can't avoid to mention the Mavericks in all of this, seeing as they are probably the motivation behind this change. Dallas, allegedly, spent weeks after the trade leaking stories about Dončić's lack of professionalism in regards to keeping his body healthy. Some might be inclined to say those stories were outright fat-shaming, but whatever the case, Dončić seemed to take it personally - as he should. The extension It makes sense for the Lakers to offer Dončić a max $229 million extension as soon as possible, but does it make sense for Dončić to accept it? The Lakers, after all, don't have a secondary star lined up for the 26-year-old for when LeBron James retires. James, who will be 41 this season, surely isn't long for the roster, and while Austin Reaves is around for now, his contractual situation is also up in the air. While many will argue the Lakers can easily acquire stars, especially as Dončić should be a huge draw, it's important to note that the league has shifted in many ways. Stars rarely enter free agency anymore, with most moving around via trade. The Lakers don't have oodles of trade assets, which means it's fair to ask how exactly they're planning on providing Dončić with help for when James is gone. It's also worth noting that there's a team in San Antonio, that might be able to offer Dončić a max contract, and a Tier 1 running mate in the form of Victor Wembanyama, next offseason. That situation should, by all accounts, be attractive to anyone, but Wembanyama might genuinely be the perfect fit for Dončić specifically, and vice versa. Do note that is pure speculation, but given that the Lakers are bit of a question mark moving forward, it makes sense if that's something Dončić and his team is aware of. WNBA Legend Refuses To Apologize For Calling Angel Reese 'C-Tier' Player

WNBA Legend Refuses To Apologize For Calling Angel Reese 'C-Tier' Player originally appeared on The Spun. Angel Reese is already a two-time WNBA All-Star, but she apparently has a long way to go in order to be considered an "A-tier" player. Earlier this month, three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker was asked to do a "tier ranking" for some of the biggest names in women's basketball. She started off things by placing A'ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart in the "S" tier. The second tier (A) included All-Star guards Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum and Sabrina Ionescu. Interestingly enough, Parker didn't place Reese in the "B" tier. She gave that honor to Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers. Parker rounded out her list by placing Reese in the "C" tier alongside Cameron Brink. "I put her right at that C level," Parker said. "I think in terms of being above, you have to be able to have the ability to carry a team and be a 1 or 2 option. I think Angel Reese is fantastic at her role, which is offensive rebounding." During an appearance on the "Good Follow" podcast, Parker was asked about the criticism she received for placing Reese in the "C" tier. Parker made it clear that she stands by her decision. "They asked me my opinion on player tiers, and my thing is, if you bring something to the argument, bring something else," Parker said. "Can she get to player A, or player S, or whatever? Yes, she can. Right now, I don't know if she's alongside those players. And you're measuring her against players that have been in the league for years." It's tough to argue against Parker, who was a seven-time All-Star and two-time MVP during her WNBA career. Besides, placing Reese in a "C" tier isn't exactly insult. She's still ranked ahead of most players in the league. Reese will be back on the court Thursday night against the Seattle Storm. We'll see if she can extend her double-double streak to 11 straight Legend Refuses To Apologize For Calling Angel Reese 'C-Tier' Player first appeared on The Spun on Jul 23, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 23, 2025, where it first appeared.

JJ Redick identified two NBA players Bronny James could emulate

Over the last handful of months, there has been a growing hope that Bronny James can eventually become a legitimate rotation player in the NBA. He put up strong numbers during this past G League regular season, and he played very solid basketball during the Las Vegas summer league this month. There is a continuing debate about what type of player James will be if and when he makes it in the NBA. He has been projected as an undersized shooting guard or even a 3-and-D player, and many feel his defense is his strong suit. But the 6-foot-3 20-year-old has also shown the ability to attack in transition and create for himself off the dribble. Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick came up with two possible players whom James could possibly emulate moving forward, according to an ESPN article. "Redick points to the 6-2, 205-pound Davion Mitchell of the Miami Heat or his friend and former teammate, the 6-1, 190-pound T.J. McConnell of the Indiana Pacers, as examples of the type of game changer James can become," wrote Dave McMenamin. Mitchell has become not just a strong defender but also a potent 3-point shooter over the last couple of years. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 7.9 points and 4.9 assists a game and made 39.8% of his 3-point attempts. Many basketball fans are likely familiar with McConnell after the Pacers' run to Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. He has been a spark plug off the bench, and there were times in the championship series where he was arguably more impactful than Tyrese Haliburton. McConnell has often been a good 3-point shooter, although he struggled in that department during the 2024-25 regular season. His ability to attack off the dribble and penetrate helped Indiana maintain an up-tempo pace throughout the season until it gave out in the final game of the finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Some are predicting that James will crack the Lakers' rotation this coming season. That would be welcome news, especially given the Lakers' lack of serviceable backcourt depth.
