Jazz Chisholm Jr. doubled up on popup in latest Yankees base-running gaffe
MIAMI — It's almost an everyday occurrence for the New York Yankees. Their latest inexcusable play happened with one out in the second inning of Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins when Paul Goldschmidt hit a routine pop fly to second baseman Xavier Edwards. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was on first base after drawing a walk. After Edwards caught the popup, he caught Chisholm too far off the bag, throwing to first base for a double play to end the inning. Advertisement Chisholm remained in the game, but when he got back to the dugout, the Yankees' second baseman and manager Aaron Boone were seen walking down into the clubhouse together. Boone sometimes does this to avoid television cameras picking up conversations between him and his players. Minutes later, Boone was spotted appearing to scold first-base coach Travis Chapman for Chisholm getting thrown out. Jazz Chisholm gets caught sleeping on a pop up to second and the Marlins turn the double play — Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) August 2, 2025 On Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays in the ninth inning, Yankees catcher Austin Wells was thrown out on the bases after forgetting how many outs there were. Boone said that mistake 'can't happen,' while Wells called himself an 'idiot' for the base-running gaffe. In Friday's game against the Marlins, the Yankees did not have any base-running blunders, but new addition José Caballero missed a groundball hit to him in right field, which ultimately led to Miami's walk-off win after New York blew leads of 6-0 and 9-4. The Yankees have struggled this season with basic fundamentals after general manager Brian Cashman said cleaning up the sloppiness was a main objective for his front office. Chisholm getting thrown out on the bases might be the most egregious of the team's mental mistakes this season. This story will be updated.

Jacksonville Jaguars boost cornerback depth with veteran free agent signing
The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly signing cornerback Levi Wallace, according to Ian Rapoport. The addition of Wallace bolsters the depth at cornerback while the team is without Buster Brown. Wallace is an experienced player, having appeared in 96 games on defense, which includes making 72 starts. He was most recently with the Denver Broncos last season, where he played 308 snaps, allowing a completion rate of 70.4% with one pass breakup, according to PFF. Most of Wallace's snaps in his career have come outside, and for what it's worth, he's often graded out well against the run and as a tackler by PFF's metrics. For his career, he has allowed a completion rate of 59%, 12.4 yards per catch, and recorded 12 interceptions and 35 pass breakups.
