For Duel founder Paul Archer, sustainability isn't a line in a pitch deck – it's the foundation of everything his company stands for. Based in London, Duel is a B Corp-certified SaaS platform specialising in brand advocacy.
In a world where corporate greenwashing is often just another tab on the website, Paul Archer is adamant that sustainability should be more than surface-level spin. "Sustainability at Duel isn't just something we talk about – it's embedded in how we do business," says Archer, whose company helps brands build and scale advocacy marketing through loyal customers and brand communities. "We're a B Corp, which means we hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of social and environmental performance."
Founded with the belief that companies can - and should - do more than simply scale quickly and sell out, Duel has taken a stance that feels increasingly radical in the startup world: choosing partners based not just on potential revenue, but shared values. "It's not just about being a successful SaaS company, but being one that adds value to the world in a meaningful, responsible way," says Archer. "We are also very selective about the brands we work with and will happily turn down business if they don't follow the same mantra of people and planet over profit."
That mantra isn't always the easiest to maintain in the turbulent world of startups, where cash flow can be tight and expectations high. But for Archer, balancing sustainability with commercial viability is a long game - and a smart one. "Running a startup is tough – there's no sugar-coating it. You're balancing growth, cash flow, and trying to make every penny count. But here's the thing: sustainability doesn't just make us feel good, it actually helps us grow."
In fact, being purpose-driven has become one of Duel's most valuable differentiators. "Our customers are looking for companies that do good and do well," he says. "They want long-term growth with a positive impact, and that's exactly what we're creating."
As scrutiny of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance grows, especially among younger consumers and employees, it's natural to ask whether the investor world is catching up. Archer's take is candid: "We made the decision early on to build Duel with a purpose – not just to make money, but to show that companies built to drive advocacy can change the world."
That stance has helped filter out the wrong investors - and attract the right ones. "We're committed to growing the business responsibly and sustainably and that kind of mindset is exactly what our investors are looking for and are drawn to as well," he explains. "But my impression is that the majority of investors, when they talk about ESG, are just paying lip service, and really, the only thing they care about is money. But this made it much easier for us to find the kind of investors that we truly want to work with because sustainability is as important to them as it is to us."
With growing pressure on the tech world to demonstrate substance over spin, Duel's mission is a timely reminder that sustainability doesn't have to come at the cost of success - and might just be its future-proofing factor.

‘Strong probability' Viktor Gyokeres is sold below €100m clause, says Sporting CP president

Sporting CP's president has said there is a 'strong probability' Viktor Gyokeres is sold this summer and the club will 'give in' to an offer below his €100million (£85.4m, $117.2m) release clause. Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 games in 2024-25 for the Portuguese club and is under consideration from Arsenal in their efforts to sign a No 9 this summer. Advertisement The 27-year-old Sweden international's preference is to play for a team in the Champions League, although Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim remains a major admirer having worked together at Sporting before the Portuguese departed last winter. Frederico Varandas insists his club are 'very calm' about the striker's future and insisted they have no financial need to sell their prized asset, whom the president describes as 'one of the world's best players'. The Sporting president said both Gyokeres and his agent have been informed by Sporting of what their valuation is. When speaking in an interview with O Jogo of what he considered to be a fair market value for the Sweden international, the Sporting president cited United paying the £62.5m (€73.2m) release clause to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. United have also had a second bid for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, comprised of £55m upfront and £7.5m of bonuses, rejected by the west London club. 'These players do not have the market value or the quality of Viktor, in my opinion,' Varandas said. 'They (Cunha and Mbeumo) are being negotiated for values of around €75m. We are sensitive to Viktor's dreams or that of any players. 'Today I think there is a strong probability that he (Gyokeres) will leave.' Varandas added: 'I can guarantee, with absolute certainty, that Viktor will not leave for €60m plus €10m.' Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 games since moving to Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. He helped them lift the Primeira Liga title last year and win a league and cup double this time around. He scored only one goal for Brighton & Hove Albion before departing on loan to both Swansea City and later Coventry. Coventry made the move permanent in 2021 and he went on to score 43 times in 117 games. The Swede joined Sporting for a club-record fee in July 2023, signing a five-year contract. Chelsea step up planning for potential new stadium

Chelsea have held talks with the Mayor of London's office to discuss the prospect of building a new stadium. The West Londoners are deliberating plans to move to a new stadium or enhance their current home at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's current venue has a capacity of 41,728, which will make it only the 11th-largest stadium in the Premier League next season. Advertisement Plans are in motion over a project to modernise the club's facilities and The Telegraph have revealed that talks have been held with the Mayor of London's office. Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, would need to approve any potential proposals. Should Chelsea decide to leave Stamford Bridge, a site at Earl's Court has been named as a potential new home. However, the management of the Earl's Court Development Company (ECDC), who own the plot, have said previously that the current project plans are for residential housing. The statement said: 'There is no plan within our plans for Chelsea FC to relocate to the Earl's Court site. We have a fully detailed design, shortly to be registered with both local authorities, which prioritises the delivery of thousands of homes and jobs, culture and open space through a well-designed and considered masterplan, which has evolved over four years of engagement. Advertisement 'This will see development commence in 2026 with the first residents and occupiers moving in from 2030. This is, and will remain, our primary focus.' Chelsea's talks with the Mayor of London's office could be the start of formulating a proposal for a new stadium. The Blues have the option to bid for the site at Earl's Court before development on current plans begin. The deadline to purchase the plot is unclear. Borussia Dortmund reach agreement to extend Carney Chukwuemeka's loan

Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund have reached a 'general agreement' with Chelsea to extend the loan of Carney Chukwuemeka until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking to reporters in Florida, Kehl said – via Bild: 'There is positive news about Carney. Advertisement 'I conducted discussions with Chelsea. In the end, we have a general agreement that Carney will stay with us as long as this tournament is for Borussia Dortmund. There are still some formalities to be dealt with, but we are very confident that we will continue to see Carney back in a black and yellow jersey at his tournament.' Chukwuemeka's contract originally expires on June 30, but Borussia Dortmund have been working hard to extend the player's loan. At one point, the Bundesliga side did want to sign the Englishman on a permanent basis but a move was financially unfeasible. It's likely that with Jamie Gittens' impending transfer to Chelsea for a reported €65m, that Chukwuemeka remaining at Dortmund for the remainder of the Club World Cup was a part of that deal.
